  • SoulCalibur VI Adds 2B To Its Roster Later This Month

With Christmas rapidly approaching, Bandai Namco Entertainment’s asked Santa Claus to deliver a gift early. He’s obliged, and on December 18 the company’s 3D fighting game, SoulCalibur VI, will add NieR: Automata‘s 2B to its growing list of playable characters.

The announcement comes via the company’s official UK Twitter account. As noted by Comic Book, no price for the additional character has been revealed yet, but there’s speculation that she could cost an estimated $5.99 (or free for those who purchased the Deluxe Edition).

Stand ready for battle: @NieRGame’s 2B will bring her blades to the stage of history on December 18th! Get your copy of @SOULCALIBUR VI: https://t.co/qasTVeNWN5 pic.twitter.com/QlLi9arNa2

    — BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment UK (@BandaiNamcoUK) December 13, 2018

Bandai Namco initially revealed the addition of Yoko Taro’s character back in October. The official SoulCalibur Twitter account posted a video of the announcement to the social media site, confirming that “2B from @NieRGame joins the battle of souls and swords in #SOULCALIBUR VI!” This came just seven months after The Witcher‘s Geralt of Rivia was confirmed as a playable character.

2B, whose full name is YoRHa No.2 Type B (with “B” standing for Battle), is the game’s third DLC character. The game’s season pass includes five DLC packs–three additional characters, two sets of creation parts–and Tira as a bonus playable character.

In our SoulCalibur VI review, we called it “a fighting game that’s easy to recommend” with “a low barrier to entry and high skill ceiling” that has “some of the most substantial single-player content in any fighting game today.” Soul Calibur VI is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

  • Soundweaver Introduces a New Way to Play Skyforge on Xbox One

Soundweaver Introduces a New Way to Play Skyforge on Xbox One

When we create an update for Skyforge, we always look at the bigger picture and the ways you can interact with the world. We want players to find new ways to play the game and make each class that we create a fun and fresh experience. With Distant Frequencies, we might have achieved just that.

The Soundweaver is a new spin of the Bard class from classic RPGs. Many of our colleagues are fans of tabletop games, and some of them were actively pushing for a musician class in Skyforge. However, we didn’t want to just make a musician that plays tunes at the press of a button. We wanted to make it interactive, almost like a rhythm game.

When the first concepts started to make their rounds in our studio, we knew we had something really unique coming up. In the end, we just needed a fitting theme for our new class – and this is where it got tricky, to say the least.

In Skyforge, we explore many different universes, ranging from mythological creatures, gods and demons, to machines and virtual worlds. Therefore, when pinpointing a new style for a music-themed player class, we had many different goals and ideas in mind. Should it be like a flute player from a forest? Or maybe a Viking class blowing a huge horn? But with the influence of our recent Battle Royale mode, we were in the mood for a more tech-oriented class and sketched out concepts for an 80s synthwave-guitarist. That’s when things started to click, and how we got our very own Soundweaver!

As mentioned before, we wanted to make this class play more like a rhythmic game, which means that if you press the base attacks in the right timing, the Soundweaver will get different types of bonuses. On top of that, the Soundweaver uses three different auras created with a subwoofer with various effects depending on if they are used against enemies, in a party or as a solo player.

We hope you’ll enjoy playing as the Soundweaver on Skyforge’s newest update, Distant Frequencies! Let us know your comments on social media!

If you haven’t played Skyforge recently, we’re sending out small in-game gifts to all inactive players that will help you catch up with the rest of the community! Please note that those gifts are sent out in waves and it may take a few days for them to arrive in your in-game inbox.

    See you in Aelion!

  • Every IGN Mortal Kombat Review

Mortal Kombat has been gruesomely dismembering fighters since 1992 – four years before IGN was around. With the announcement of Mortal Kombat 11 (which, shockingly, is not actually the 11th Mortal Kombat game) we’re looking back over all 30 reviews IGN has published. Interestingly, the series contains such a wide range of games that it’s one of the few that’s earned almost every score in the book, except the very highest and lowest available.

Which MK games stand out to you as the best and worst?

Dan Stapleton is IGN’s Reviews Editor. You can follow him on Twitter to hear gaming rants and lots of random old-school Simpsons references.

  • These Are the Best Deals on Nintendo Switch Ahead of Christmas

If you buy something through this post, IGN may get a share of the sale. For more, read our Terms of Use.

The Nintendo Switch is one of the hottest items of the 2018 holiday season, and as such, there aren’t many Nintendo Switch deals happening right now. At least, there’s nothing approaching the excellence of the Black Friday Nintendo Switch Mario Kart bundle. That doesn’t mean there aren’t still some great chances to save, though.

We’ve scoured the internet to come up with the best deals on Nintendo Switch consoles and bundles, and if you’re after a new Nintendo Switch, the good news there’s still time to get one before Christmas.

  • Xbox: The State of Every First-Party Developer

Microsoft made huge strides towards solving their long-running first-party game deficiency this year with the creation or acquisition of over half a dozen studios. So what the heck are each of them doing? Let’s take a look at what we know – or have heard – about each of Xbox’s dozen first-party development studios.

    Current Known Project: Halo Infinite

Status: Halo Infinite, aka Halo 6, was officially unveiled at E3 2018. It’ll utilize a brand-new graphics engine called Slipspace, which, along with the fact that it wasn’t given a 2019 release window like other Xbox titles at E3, leads us to believe it will be launched alongside the next-generation Xbox, codenamed Scarlett, probably in Fall 2020. It will likely be playable on the current Xbox One console family, as well.
