Promo Trailer for German Film ‘A Regular Woman’ About Being Free

    A Regular Woman

“I am just a woman…” The Match Factory has released an official promo trailer for a German film titled A Regular Woman, originally Nur Eine Frau (or “Just a Woman“) in German, made by filmmaker Sherry Hormann. This premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, but is still seeking international distribution outside of Germany. The film is based on the true story of Hatun Aynur Sürücü, whose murder caused an outcry in 2005. It tells of her struggle for a free, self-determined life in the face of her family’s intense opposition. Her brothers refuse to accept her lifestyle, and insults & threats continue to escalate. Finally, the young woman reports her oldest brother to the police. But this won’t save her in the end… Starring Almila Bagriacik as Aynur, with a cast including Rauand Taleb, Meral Perin, Mürtüz Yolcu, Armin Wahedi, and Aram Arami. A sad story of how hard it is to live a free life, no matter where you’re from. Definitely worth a look. ›››

  • Full-Length Trailer for Larry Fessenden’s Frankenstein Film ‘Depraved’

Full-Length Trailer for Larry Fessenden’s Frankenstein Film ‘Depraved’

    Depraved Trailer

“I figured it out! I figured out how to bring them back…” IFC Midnight has debuted the full-length official trailer for Larry Fessenden’s Depraved, a compelling modern take on the classic Frankenstein story of a man created from spare parts. Described as the “best film version of the Frankenstein legend in decades”, Fessenden’s Depraved is a “meditative reimagining of” Mary Shelley’s classic novel that “explores the crisis of masculinity and ideas about loneliness, memory and the subtle psychological shocks that shape us as individuals.” The plot follows a disillusioned field surgeon suffering from PTSD who endeavors to make a man out of body parts and bring him to life in a Brooklyn loft. Depraved stars Owen Campbell, Chloë Levine, Alex Breaux, David Call, Joshua Leonard, Ana Kayne, and Maria Dizzia. I’ve been hearing some great things about this, perhaps the best update on Frankenstein in a long time – and this footage confirms that it might live up to the hype. Watch the trailer for “a punk rock New York Frankenstein” below. ›››

  • Persona 5 Royal Steals a Spring 2020 Western Release Window

    Spring is looking deadly.

When Persona 5 Royal’s Japanese release date (31st October, 2019) was revealed, developer Atlus was quick to confirm that the game would launch in the West in 2020. However, a specific release window was never nailed down, leading to a lot of fans wondering whether they’d be waiting a long time for Royal to arrive overseas. After all, when it comes to timeliness, Atlus’ localisation track record is rough to say the least.

Fortunately, it’s looking like the West won’t have to wait quite as long as many had feared. During an Atlus art showcase in Los Angeles, as reported by GameSpot, a brief trailer has confirmed that Persona 5 Royal will launch at some point in Spring 2020. That’s not too bad, right?

  • Dragon Age 4 Lead Producer Leaves BioWare

    A new age.

Dragon Age 4, or whatever it ends up being called, is currently in development at BioWare. The game was put on hold as the developer wrestled with ANTHEM, but now, as far as we know, it’s the studio’s primary project. That said, we don’t know much about it yet, and it’ll likely be a while until we get any concrete details. Supposedly, the next Dragon Age has been pushed and pulled in multiple directions already, and to be frank, it’s difficult to place a lot of faith in BioWare given its most recent output.

  • Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Gets Driver’s License Mission And New Characters

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Gets Driver’s License Mission And New Characters

When Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot was named and officially shown off at E3 earlier this year, none of the footage showed anything past the Frieza Saga. In a game about Goku’s life, it makes some sense that it would at least go through the part where he becomes a Super Saiyan, but fans were concerned it wouldn’t go beyond that. Not only does the game go beyond that into the Android Saga, it includes the best filler episode from the show.

In the latest issue of Jump, the manga magazine that ran Dragon Ball, Bandai Namco revealed a few new things about the game. The game, as mentioned will continue through the Android Saga, meaning the Cell Games will likely feature prominently. It hasn’t been said if the game will go past that, but Cell Games would make a logical end to the series, as would the following arc. In addition, Jump confirmed that one of the side missions in the game would be based on the 125th Dragon Ball Z episode where Goku and Piccolo get driver’s licenses.

The episode itself was based on the cover to chapter 255 of the manga, wherein Piccolo attempts to drive a car with Goku backseat driving.

Finally, the game will introduce a new character, an ex-Ginyu Force member named Bonyu who left the squad due to her dislike of the poses. Considering she is described as “busty” in the magazine, her name is a less-than-tasteful Japanese pun. But it’s Dragon Ball, so that’s pretty par for the course.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is releasing on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2020.

  • Super Mario Bros. Movie Getting Unofficial Extended Edition

Super Mario Bros. Movie Getting Unofficial Extended Edition

I have very distinct memories of talking my parents into letting me go see the Super Mario Bros. movie in 1993 and, all of seven years-old, walking out of the theater trying to convince myself I liked it. The film has gained a cult following over the last 18 years, more for its mockable qualities than its genuine qualities, and has become the focus of a lot of fascination by movie and film fans. A few months ago, some of these fans found an uncut version of the film with deleted scenes that never made it to theaters.

Yes, that’s right. Super Mario Bros. scenes you’ve never seen before, until now. Here’s one of them.

In this scene, the Mario bros. meet rival plumbers attempting to rip-off a restaurant by giving them an absurd estimate to fix a dishwasher. The other plumbers are standoffish when Mario calls them out on it and the pairs confront each other outside.

The group that found and published this scene, which just calls themselves Super Mario Bros: The Movie Archive, intends to release the entire film with these scenes edited in and restored for an extra 15 minutes added to the runtime. The plan is to make this the definitive edition of Super Mario Bros..

Another new Mario film is in production at Illumination, the animation studio behind the Minions movies, with Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto overseeing the film this time. It has long gone around that Nintendo had traditionally been against licensing their properties for movies because Super Mario Bros. was such a disaster in their eyes until late president Satoru Iwata decided to reverse this decision.
