  • Persona Franchise Passes New Milestone Ahead Of Persona 5 Royal Release

The Persona video game franchise has set a new sales record. Developer Atlus announced in a blog post (translated by VentureBeat) that the entire series has now surpassed 10 million copies sold.

This figure counts copies sold in the mainline series, which has so far spanned five entries, as well as the spin-offs. Atlus did not provide a breakdown of sales by title, but it was already announced that Persona 5 alone had shifted 2.7 million copies.

The new 10 million figure comes after Persona publisher Sega announced in its 2018 financial report that the series had reached 9.3 million copies shipped as of October 2018. The release of certain Persona games in Japan and Persona Q2 worldwide since then surely helped the figure grow to 10 million.

Also in the blog post, Atlus said fans can look forward to an upcoming news event for Persona 5 Royal in the near future. Royal is an updated version of the Persona 5 that is slated for release in October on PS4. The game is expected to be a hit, in turn boosting the series sales even higher.

Royal launches in Japan in October, with a release scheduled for the west in Spring 2020. For more on P5R, be sure to read (or watch) our analysis of the first full reveal trailer, breakdown of all the new information that followed, or details on the new playable character Kasumi Yoshizawa.

  • WoW Classic Lifting Character Limit, Adding More Servers For Launch

World of Warcraft Classic is officially launching very soon on August 27, and ahead of that, developer Blizzard has announced some important changes and updates.

Starting off, Blizzard will eliminate the previous character limit of three per account. At launch, players can make up to 10 characters per realm; that works out to 50 across all Classic realms.

On top of that, Blizzard announced it will open four more Classic servers to help what are expected to be potentially lengthy queues at launch. The four new servers can be seen below. All the names are pretty good, but “Bigglesworth” probably takes the cake.

    New WoW Classic Servers

    Name Type Timezone
    Incendius PvP Eastern
    Bigglesworth PvP Pacific
    Old Blanchy Normal Pacific
    Westfall Normal Eastern

For those lucky enough to be playing WoW Classic early, Blizzard said if players see servers marked with “Full” or “High” population, they should try to play on any of the new realms.

“We urge players on realms marked Full or High to plan to play on one of these new realms to avoid the longest queues, and to help spread the player population as evenly as possible and provide the best play experience for everyone,” Blizzard said.

WoW Classic bills itself as “Azeroth as it was.” Blizzard says players can expect a “faithful recreation of the original World of Warcraft,” featuring character models, combat mechanics, and skill trees that are as they were more than 10 years ago. Access to WoW Classic is included with the standard WoW subscription fee.

  • Promo Trailer for Kinky Finnish Dramedy Film ‘Dogs Don’t Wear Pants’

Promo Trailer for Kinky Finnish Dramedy Film ‘Dogs Don’t Wear Pants’

    Dogs Don't Wear Pants Trailer

“I’ve met a nice lady.” Time to get kinky. TIFF has debuted an international promo trailer for the Finnish film Dogs Don’t Wear Pants, which first premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this year in the Directors’ Fortnight sidebar, and is showing in Toronto next month. Described as an “affecting and absurd dramedy”, Dogs Don’t Wear Pants is about a guilt-stricken widower who discovers that a demanding dominatrix might be able to give him the therapy he needs. A film about how brutal BDSM and pup play might actually be the therapy certain people need. Starring Pekka Strang, Krista Kosonen, Ester Geislerová, Ilona Huhta, Jani Volanen, and Oona Airola. This funky Finnish film is still seeking international distribution after Cannes, and hopefully a few brave cinephiles will give it a look up in Toronto. I love the title, and from this trailer the awkward comedy seems to elevate this story in just the right way. It’s weird but still worth a look. ›››

  • First Trailer for Disney’s New Live-Action ‘Lady and the Tramp’ Movie

First Trailer for Disney’s New Live-Action ‘Lady and the Tramp’ Movie

    Lady and the Tramp Trailer

“Wow… This is something else.” Disney has unveiled the first official trailer for their next live-action update on an animated classic – Lady and the Tramp. This one is also skipping theaters and will be premiering on their new streaming service called Disney+ in November, one of their big launch titles to entice people into subscribing. Lady in the Tramp is a lovable dog movie telling the romantic tale of a sheltered uptown Cocker Spaniel dog and a streetwise downtown Mutt. All of the dogs used in the film are rescues, which means it’s not entirely CGI. Featuring the voices of Justin Theroux as Tramp, Tessa Thompson as Lady, plus the voices of Sam Elliott, Ashley Jensen, Janelle Monáe, and Benedict Wong; with a human cast including Kiersey Clemons, Yvette Nicole Brown, Thomas Mann, Arturo Castro, Parvesh Cheena, and Adrian Martinez. I’ll be darned – this really looks quite lovely. I don’t hate it, want to watch. ›››

  • Official Trailer for ‘Great Alaskan Race’ About the Original Serum Run

Official Trailer for ‘Great Alaskan Race’ About the Original Serum Run

    The Great Alaskan Race Trailer

“You are choosing to transport this serum with a stone age solution!” “Have a little faith, will you?” P12 Films has debuted the first official trailer for a family adventure movie titled The Great Alaskan Race, made by writer / director Brian Presley. The movie is a recreation and retelling of the true story of the great serum run of Alaska in 1925. This original “race” across Alaska later became the iconic Iditarod trail sled dog race, still held every year. The legendary serum run originally occurred in the winter of 1924 to 1925 – Leonhard Seppala and his team of sled dogs traveled over 700 treacherous miles to save the small town of Nome from a deadly diphtheria outbreak. The Great Alaskan Race stars Brian Presley, Brad Leland, Treat Williams, Henry Thomas, Brea Bree, and Bruce Davison. Along with a bunch of cuddly dogs. The dialogue in this trailer is atrocious, but at least the dogs look like they’re having fun. Check it out below. ›››

  • Dreams Wins Game of the Show at Gamescom 2019

    Gong-ho.

Update: In addition to winning Most Original Game and Best PS4 Game at Gamescom 2019, creative suite Dreams also took home the overall Best of Gamescom 2019 gong. Yet another Sony published title, Marvel’s Avengers VR, won Best VR/AR Game, wrapping up another sensational showcase for the Japanese giant.

Sony’s booth at Gamescom 2019 did look a little light this year, with heavy-hitters like The Last of Us: Part II and Ghost of Tsushima taking a backseat, and Death Stranding not playable. That didn’t stop the Japanese giant from taking home a bunch of awards, though, as Concrete Genie won Best Family Game and Dreams won Most Original Game. Media Molecule also secured the gong for Best PS4 Game.

There are so many great, memorable levels in the Zelda series, from Majora Mask’s Stone Tower Temple to the Arbiter’s Grounds in Twilight Princess. But a level that’s always stayed with me from the series is the Palace of Winds from the Minish Cap.
