  • Iceland Isn't in FIFA 17 Despite Incredible Euro 2016 Run and Here's Why

Iceland had an incredible run at this summer’s Euro tournament. The tiny nation made it all the way to the quaterfinals, knocking out England on its way, before eventually losing to France.

In the wake of the increased interest in the country’s soccer team, EA offered Iceland’s soccer association, KSI, $15,000 for the rights to their side for FIFA 17, according to a report from the BBC (via Kotaku). Iceland thought this figure was too low and made a counter offer. EA did not accept the unspecified figure and now KSI president Geir Thorsteinsson is speaking out about it.

“They are the ones buying these rights and they almost want it for free,” Thorsteinsson said about EA’s offer. “The performance at the Euros show that we are quite a good team and many would like to play with our team. It’s sad for the players–but the criticism should be towards EA Sports.”

Thorsteinsson added: “I really feel if we are giving away rights, or offering rights, it has to be proper negotiations and fair fees.”

Iceland’s men’s national team has never been in a FIFA game before.

EA has not commented on the matter. We’ve reached out to the company and will update this story with anything we hear back.

Curiously, EA said in a tweet earlier this month that Iceland’s “Viking Clap” victory chant would be featured in the game, according the Iceland Monitor. However, the tweet has now been deleted.

FIFA 17 comes out on September 27 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. Xbox One owners with an EA Access membership can start playing the full game right now.

The Dark Tower Also Getting TV Show, Alongside Movie

Stephen King’s classic fantasy epic The Dark Tower isn’t just heading to the big screen, it is also to become a TV show. The movie is due out next year, and it has now been announced that a Dark Tower series is on the way too.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, producers Sony have committed to a full 10-13 episode run of a Dark Tower show. It will be an adaptation of 1997’s Wizard and Glass, the fourth book in King’s epic series.

Idris Elba, who is starring in the movie, has signed on to the show, alongside his 15-year-old co-star Tom Taylor. The pair will form part of a framing device for the central story, which is set many years before the events of the film. It is set to start shooting in 2017 for an intended 2018 broadcast, although EW states that a distributor is yet to be found.

The film is set for release on February 23, 2017. Elba stars as gunslinger Roland Deschain, while Matthew McConaughey is playing demonic sorcerer Walter Padick, aka The Man in Black. The movie is directed by Nikolaj Arcel, who previously helmed the Oscar-nominated A Royal Affair. The first official images were release in July, and a trailer is expected soon.

The Dark Tower encompasses eight novels, which King published between 1982 and 2012. The books blend classic western themes with horror, sci-fi, and fantasy.

  • Rez Infinite Will Support 4K on PS4 Pro

Rez Infinite, the upcoming remake of Dreamcast classic Rez, will be playable in 4K resolution and run at 60 frames per second on PlayStation 4 Pro, developer Enhance Games has revealed. As reported by Polygon, this functionality will be for the areas included in the original version of the game, but not the new content being added to the title.

Enhance Games has stated there will be other benefits to playing Rez Infinite’s new Area X level–both in the normal mode and with PlayStation VR–on the PlayStation 4 Pro, but didn’t specify what these would be.

During Tokyo Game Show, GameSpot’s Alexa Ray Corriea played the new Area X level and described it as a “spiritual experience.”

“It’s easy to describe what Area X is, but it’s difficult to explain what it does to you … In Area X, Rez removes the rails that confine your flying character to one area ahead of you. By moving your head and looking in the direction you want to go, Area X lets you free fly anywhere you want in any part of a level,” she said.

“You can swim through the air like a shimmering cyberspace fish, weaving in and out of enemies and using the controller to shoot them out of the sky. Or you can ignore them for a while and fly off into the stars, leaving the rhythm of battle behind you.

She added: “Area X feels both familiar and alien, a comforting dip back into Rez and an exhilarating thrill ride into a world you’ve never known before.”

You can read the full Rez Infinite Area X preview for more of her impressions.

Rez Infinite’s release date has been confirmed as October 13, the same day that PS VR arrives in stores for $400. Sony’s VR headset isn’t required to play the game, as a standard, 2D version will still be available for those who wish to play it that way.

New International Trailer for 'Hidden Figures' Women at NASA Movie

    Hidden Figures Trailer

“By standing beneath a spaceship, we are living the impossible.” 20th Century Fox has released a new full-length international trailer for the drama Hidden Figures, hitting theaters in January. This film is about three intelligent women who worked for NASA and helped provide some of the math equations and calculations to send astronaut John Glenn into orbit (in 1962). The first trailer had plenty of good footage, and this one has even more. The impressive cast features Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monáe, Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons, Mahershala Ali, Aldis Hodge, and Glen Powell. This looks much nerdier than I was expecting, but still totally triumphant – even the music is more inspirational in this trailer. It may perhaps be a nice hidden gem arriving early next year. Take a look below. ›››
