  • Rick & Morty Creator’s Trover Saves The Universe Hits Switch And Xbox One Soon

    Trover Saves the Universe, the strange, Justin Roiland-created platformer/adventure game that released for PC and PS4 earlier this year, is coming to Nintendo Switch and Xbox One–and you won’t have to wait long at all. It will come to Switch this week on November 28, before an Xbox One release on December 3. Trover Saves the Universe will bring Roiland’s weird sense of humor (the same one that’s behind Rick & Morty, which he co-created with Dan Harmon) to all modern console owners.

    Trover is coming to Switch and Xbox ??
    Trover will be available on Nintendo Switch Nov. 28th

    — Trover Saves the Universe (@TroverGame) November 21, 2019

    The game will come to both consoles without support for the VR modes possible on PC and PS4; Xbox One does not have VR compatibility, and there’s no mention of Labo VR support on the game’s Switch store page. The Switch version is available to pre-order now, but the Xbox store page is not up yet. This release will come with both free DLC packs that have released for the PS4 version of the game: Jopo Mode, which gives you a new playable character, and “important cosmic jobs,” which are playable jobs that can unlock Justin Roiland comedy sketches.

    Trover Saves The Universe is a comedy game first and foremost, with the platforming and combat generally being quite simple. It earned a 7/10 in our original review, and critic Justin Clark summed up the game as “a really messed up alien buddy comedy.” If you pick it up, be sure to look out for every Easter egg hidden away in the game.

  • Apex Legends: This Powerful Shotgun Got Nerfed, But Is Still Extremely Dominant

    Apex Legends, which launched earlier this year to critical acclaim, has introduced a minor nerf for one of its most powerful weapons. The Peacekeeper, which got a tweak in the November 5 update, has received two very minor changes. Rechamber time has been increased by a tenth of a second, from 1.1 seconds to 1.2 seconds, while the head shot multiplier has been cut from 1.5 to 1.25.

    Head’s up, Legends. We’ve just pushed a balance adjustment to the peacekeeper that does the following:
    ?Increased rechamber time: 1.1 -> 1.2
    ?Decreased head shot multiplier: 1.5 -> 1.25 pic.twitter.com/HsljjPZ4JC

    — Apex Legends (@PlayApex) November 22, 2019

    This could potentially be the difference between life and death in some instances, although fans have been quick to point out that it’s not the change they were expecting. As professional player Rogue notes, it was the pellet size that many players took issue with, not how fast it rechambered or the modifier on head shots. These changes, he and others responding to the original tweet have argued, will not actually fix the issues some players have faced.

    It wasn’t about the damage numbers, it was about the pellet size because at any point even someone who kinda sucks can still hit you. If you lower that down some, or back to where it was and return the headshot and the rechamber – the PC is back to normal.

    — Rogue (@TTrebb) November 22, 2019

    This is not the only concern players have with Apex Legends’ balance at the moment–as Dot Esports has noted, a recent Reddit survey found that 77% of players think that Pathfinder’s abilities make the legend overpowered, while a whopping 91% believe that Mirage needs to be buffed. This survey, conducted for the game’s third season, collected 1936 responses–a tiny portion of the player base, but a considerable number nonetheless.

    It’s possible that the Peacekeeper will receive further nerfs and changes. In October, EA reported that Apex Legends had been played by over 70 million players–it’s a huge success.

    Official Trailer for Documentary ‘Afterward’ About Israel & Palestine

    Afterward Doc Trailer

    “The enemy is the occupation.” Abramorama has debuted an official trailer for an indie documentary titled Afterward, marking the feature directorial debut of Israeli filmmaker Ofra Bloch. This deeply personal film is about the psychological barriers preventing peace in the Middle East. Bloch forces herself to confront her demons in a journey that takes her to Germany, Israel and Palestine. Set against the current wave of fascism and anti-Semitism sweeping the globe, Afterward delves into the secret wounds carried by victims as well as victimizers, through testimonies ranging from the horrifying to hopeful. Not just an examination of the complexities of the Israel-Palestine conflict, but how traumatizing and disruptive the Holocaust was to everyone living there. “Movingly illustrates the myriad ways in which the past haunts the present and the healing power of communication.” Looks like a compelling doc that digs quite deep into the power of guilt. ›››

    Mia Wasikowska Takes Center Stage in Second ‘Judy & Punch’ Trailer

    Judy & Punch Trailer

    “Something is very wrong with this town!” Madman Films in Australia has unveiled another official trailer for the indie dark comedy Judy & Punch, the latest Blue Tongue Films production (run by Nash & Joel Edgerton). Written and directed by Australian actress Mirrah Foulkes, her feature directorial debut, the film originally premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. It also played at the Sydney, Bucheon, New Zealand, Melbourne, London, and Sitges Film Festivals. Set in the old town of Seaside (nowhere near the sea), puppeteers Judy and Punch are trying to resurrect their marionette show in an an anarchic town on the brink of mob rule. It’s a clever commentary on how women are treated, and how we can do better. Starring Mia Wasikowska as Judy & Damon Herriman as Punch, along with Benedict Hardie, Eddie Baroo, Tom Budge, Virginia Gay, and Don Bridges. It’s the best trailer for this weird, twisted film yet. ›››

    Review: Rian Johnson’s ‘Knives Out’ is a Razor-Sharp Murder Mystery

    Knives Out Review

    Perhaps best known as the writer & director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, filmmaker Rian Johnson got his big start in 2005 with the neo-noir mystery Brick. A hard-boiled detective story in the vein of The Maltese Falcon, Brick won a Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and paved the way for his sophomore effort, 2008’s The Brothers Bloom. The caper comedy-drama, about two sibling con artists, was inspired by Bogdanovich’s Paper Moon and David Mamet’s heist-thriller, House of Games. For his third film, Johnson continued taking innovative approaches to familiar genres with the twisty, multi-layered 2012 sci-fi Looper. Now, the filmmaker is paying homage to the works of Agatha Christie with Knives Out, a black comedy whodunnit influenced by classic mystery films like Murder on the Orient Express and The Mirror Crack’d. ›››

    Do you want to play a game of lucky hit?

With pretty much all this year’s major releases available now ahead of the holidays, we’re very interested to see what you’re up to.

    Stephen Tailby, Associate Editor

    One or two games require my attention this weekend as I ready up some more Mini Reviews. However, I’d also really like to put a bit of time into Tetris Effect, a game I’ve recently remembered is amazing. Ideally I’d like to get through Control as well, but I said that last time and didn’t even pop the disc in. Hopefully I get at least that far this weekend.
