UK Trailer for French Animated Film 'Ballerina' Featuring Elle Fanning
“We should never give up on our dreams.” Gaumont and Entertainment One have debuted a full UK trailer for the French animated film Ballerina, about a young red-headed orphan girl who dreams of becoming a ballerina in Paris in the late 1800s. The English-language version of the film features Elle Fanning as the voice of Félicie Milliner, as well as Dane DeHaan, Maddie Ziegler and Carly Rae Jepsen providing other voices. This doesn’t compare to Disney or Pixar, but it does have its charms and it does have a fiercely passionate inspirational side to it. If anything, this reminds me a bit of Frozen with all the dancing around and spinning. The story seems to be a bit cliched, but maybe there’s something more to this hidden within. ›››

VIFF Review: Keith Maitland's Devastating New Documentary 'Tower'
Director Keith Maitland’s Tower is a devastating documentary that reconstructs the darkest moment in the history of the University of Texas at Austin. The title refers to the 30-story tower at the center of campus from which more than a dozen people were murdered and more than 30 wounded by a former Marine armed with a small arsenal in 1966. Tower opens with the announcement of Charles Whitman’s shooting by KTBC reporter Neal Spelce. The film traces the paths of multiple witnesses, with voice overs and on-camera interviews. These “interviews” start out as actors peering and chatting into the camera, then the historical events are re-enacted, and later some of them to become the actual witnesses sharing their emotions. ›››

“The real concern here is – what’s going to happen if this bullet don’t make its destination.” Vertical Ent. has debuted an official trailer for a crime thriller titled The Hollow Point, set in a small town along the U.S. & Mexico border. Patrick Wilson plays a new sheriff in the town, but things get go from bad to worse when the cartel starts hitting back. The cast includes Ian McShane, Lynn Collins, John Leguizamo, Jim Belushi, Michael Flynn and Derek Boone. This looks gritty and violent, hopefully with some good twists in it. Leguizamo looks gnarly as a bad guy, but the fight between Wilson and McShane seems the most interesting. This looks like a much more violent, totally brutal version of Sicario focused on the local cops. ›››

Watch: Trailer for 'De Méliès à la 3D' Exhibition at La Cinémathèque
“We’re rolling…” This is lovely. The La Cinémathèque museum in Paris is opening a new exhibit this week called “De Méliès à la 3D, la machine cinéma” which roughly translates to “From Méliès to 3D, the machines of cinema”. The exhibition features the various cameras used throughout film history, showing off equipment including projectors and “the first cameras [used by] Marey, Lumière and Méliès, the beautiful Technicolor Hollywood classics, cameras [used by] Jean-Luc Godard, the torpedo submarine of Oceans, machine Microcosmos, the luxurious and modern Panavision, and the latest digital devices.” This vibrant trailer includes footage from films like Super 8, Ed Wood and Hugo. Pokemon Go Makes $2 Million a Day – Report
Pokemon Go is a free-to-play game supported by microtransactions. According to a new report, the game, despite losing millions of players recently, is still bringing in a lot of money.
Newzoo reports that Pokemon Go continues to bring in around $2 million every day–and this does not include the 30 percent cut that Apple and Google take. When the game launched in July, it was pulling in $16 million in revenue every day, according to the report.
The report also states that Pokemon Go sees around 700,000 new downloads every day. It was announced in September that Pokemon Go reached 500 million downloads. According to Apple, Pokemon Go downloaded more times in its first week than any other app in history.
Newzoo’s report claims Pokemon Go has now reached 550 million installs and $470 million in lifetime revenue.
Pokemon Go stands to expand even further in the future, as the game has yet to be released in major markets like China and South Korea.
“Pokemon Go has opened our eyes in many ways. It has refreshed the top-grossing mobile game ranking that has been dominated by a small number of publishers and games for a long time,” Newzoo CEO Peter Warman said. “It has proven beyond a doubt that AR can be applied in ways that appeal to a mass audience. Equally important from a business perspective, it has given Niantic investor Google enormous insight and data that it can incorporate into its location-based advertising and services strategy. The fact that Pokemon Go has motivated kids and youngsters to spend more time outside is an additional bonus, even if that means they take their screens with them.”

As of October 4, Pokemon Go sits in the No. 2 position on the iTunes top-grossing chart, only behind Clash Royale. It formerly held the No. 1 spot on the Free apps chart, but currently sits at No. 56.
Looking ahead, Pokemon Go developer Niantic has teased some “exciting features and changes.” These have yet to be detailed, but it sounds like a multiplayer battle mode is on the way.
