“You have to dare to be rich.” Netflix has debuted a trailer for a French film titled Divines, which won the Golden Camera (or Camera d’Or) at the Cannes Film Festival – the top prize for a first-time filmmaker. Uda Benyamina directs this coming-of-age film about a teen from the slum streets of Paris who meets a dancer that changes her life. Oulaya Amamra stars as Dounia, the girl at the center of the story, with Déborah Lukumuena, Kevin Mischel, Jisca Kalvanda, Yasin Houicha, Majdouline Idrissi & Bass Dhem. I always admire French coming-of-age films because they have contain a unique perspective on growing up that’s different than what I’m used to, and there’s always something to pick up. This looks like a great film. ›››
“Some moments define our spirit” CBS Films has finally unveiled a trailer for Peter Berg’s other new film this year, titled Patriots Day, arriving in theaters this December a few months after Deepwater Horizon. Mark Wahlberg stars as Sgt. Tommy Saunders, one of the police officers on the scene in the middle of the tragic Boston Marathon bombing in 2013. The film covers the bombings as well as the massive manhunt throughout Boston for the two terrorists responsible. The ensemble cast includes Michelle Monaghan, Kevin Bacon, J.K. Simmons, John Goodman, Michael Beach, Alex Wolff, Melissa Benoist and Rachel Brosnahan. The film will also feature a score by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross. Take a look below. ›››
“Don’t let it be forgot, that for one brief shining moment there was a Camelot.” Fox Searchlight has put out a teaser trailer for the other Pablo Larrain film this year, titled Jackie, his first English-language feature. Natalie Portman stars as First Lady Jackie Kennedy, profiling her experiences after the assassination of her husband, President John F. Kennedy, in 1966. The cast includes Peter Sarsgaard as Bobby Kennedy, Greta Gerwig, Billy Crudup, John Hurt, John Carroll Lynch, Richard E. Grant and Max Casella. I had the chance to see this film and it’s one of the best of the year, it’s phenomenal, and Portman is superb in it. This is a lovely, nice glimpse at the film – and all you need to see before catching this one in theaters. ›››
“You touch my son, I’ll kill you.” Open Road Films has unveiled the first full trailer for an action film titled Sleepless, the American remake of one of my favorite French films titled Sleepless Night. The original film is set almost entirely inside a nightclub in Paris, with some sleek action cinematography. This new one stars Jamie Foxx as an angry father who goes into a nightclub to search for his kidnapped son. The cast features Michelle Monaghan, David Harbour, Dermot Mulroney, Gabrielle Union, Scoot McNairy, T.I. and Sala Baker. There’s plenty of violence in this, with guns galore and much more. I’m still partial to the original film, but this doesn’t look so bad. Not sure if it’ll be set entirely in the club, but Foxx looks wicked. ›››
It’s a big day in the world of virtual reality, as Facebook’s Oculus VR will hold the keynote address for its third annual Oculus Connect event later today.
The briefing is scheduled to begin at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET and you will be able to watch the entire event through the Twitch livestream embed below.
According to Oculus, today’s keynote address will reveal details on “what’s next for the Oculus platform.” One possibility is that we’ll finally learn the release date and price for the Oculus Rift’s Touch controllers. These were originally pegged to launch sooner, but were later delayed to the second half of 2016.
The strange-looking, circular Touch is comprised of two controllers, one for each of your hands. Each has a traditional analog stick, two buttons, and an analog trigger, as well as haptic feedback and what Oculus calls the “hand trigger.” Touch is also capable of tracking “a set of finger poses” that work to “recognize natural hand poses like pointing, waving, or giving a thumbs-up.”
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg posted the picture above on the social networking site yesterday, teasing that he’s “getting ready to demo something new we’ve been building in virtual reality.”
It seems likely that Zuckerberg will appear on stage during Oculus Connect today. However, it remains to be seen if Rift creator Palmer Luckey will show up.
Reviews for Microsoft’s long-awaited and highly anticipated Gears of War 4 have arrived.
We’ve collected some review scores and editor opinions and rounded them up below, to help you decide if the Xbox One and PC game is worth your time and money.
Gears of War 4 is the first new entry in the mainline series since 2013’s Gears of War: Judgment. It’s also the first game in the franchise made by Microsoft, as Epic Games worked on the original trilogy, while People Can Fly made Judgment. Microsoft acquired the Gears of War franchise from Epic in 2014.
It is an Xbox Play Anywhere title, so buying it digitally on Xbox One gives you access to the PC version and vice versa. All progress moves between platforms.
For more on the critical reaction to Gears of War 4, go to GameSpot sister site Metacritic.
In terms of story, Gears of War 4 starts a new chapter in the saga. The main protagonist of the original trilogy, Marcus Fenix, shows up, but the new heroes include his son, JD, as well as the characters Kait and Del.

GameSpot — 7/10
“This is a shooter teetering on the edge of something greater, but despite the improvements it makes to the storied franchise, its missteps hold it back. There is inspiration here, and creativity in the way Gears of War 4 rethinks its multiplayer modes. But the lackluster campaign and technical issues are blights on an otherwise exhilarating shooter. The result is a whole that doesn’t reflect the quality of its often stellar parts.” — Mike Mahardy [Full review]
Polygon — 9/10
“Gears of War 4 is a remarkable complete package. When I was finished with Gears of War 4’s campaign, I remember wondering why it didn’t do more. The next morning, I was playing the game again, not out of obligation, but because I wanted to. Taken all together, Gears of War 4 doesn’t completely reinvent the genre, and it’s not always ‘bigger.’ But it’s a remarkably consistent, complete package with the kind of refinement and focus few other games can manage, providing excellent solo, cooperative, and competitive options that rank it as one of the best action games of 2016.” — Arthur Gies [Full review]
Windows Central — 5/5
“Gears of War 4 just feels great. It feels like the return of an old friend, and The Coalition masterfully weave that nostalgia into the game without smothering us in it exploitatively–which is something they very easily could have done. Gears of War 4’s greatest moments can be found in between the lines. They’re in the shadows of familiar silhouettes, in the tones of nostalgic sound effects, in every COG tag you find scattered around the battlefield, and every ridiculous, over-the-top set piece.” — Jez Corden [Full review]
Trusted Reviews — 4.5/5
“Gears Of War 4 does everything required to get the franchise roadie-running into 2016 without losing what made it so good to begin with. One of the best games on the Xbox One.” — Simon Miller [Full review]
Destructoid — 8/10
“The nature of Gears of War 4 is that we won’t know its legacy until there are more games in the canon. That’s frustrating now but it’ll hopefully be exciting later. This was a fine first showing but it’d be nice to see The Coalition carve its own identity for Gears of War. Using Epic’s foundation is understandable and expected, but it often feels like a crutch. Marcus’ boy had grown up just like him.” — Brett Makedonski [Full review]
The Jimquisition — 7/10
“Nevertheless, the campaign is flimsy, and despite claims of signifying a new generation for the series, Gears of War 4 is ultimately an upholder of the status quo.” — Jim Sterling [Full review]
US Gamer — 4/5
“The Gears of War series returns in fine form. The well-scripted and fantastic-looking campaign ends rather abruptly, but while it lasts, it’s an exciting thrill ride of intense firefights and over-the-top set pieces. It can feel a little repetitive and relentless at times, but overall it’s a lot of fun. The game’s six-mode multiplayer PvP feels refined and well designed, and offers plenty of long-term potential, while Horde 3.0 is ideal for those who want to join friends in a long, and very challenging firefight.” — Jaz Rignall [Full review]
One of actor Shia Labeouf’s next roles is hot-headed tennis legend John McEnroe in the upcoming movie Borg/McEnroe. It tells the story of the intense rivalry between McEnroe and Bjorn Borg.
Now, the first image that shows Labeouf as McEnroe and Sverrir Gudnason as Borg has been revealed.

As for what he has in common with McEnroe, Labeouf said, “Everything in common. Passionate. Perfectionist. Narcissistic. I’m a bit of a caricature also.”
Borg/McEnroe is directed by Janus Metz Pederson (Armadillo, True Detective) and is due out in 2017. Stellan Skarsgard also stars in the movie as Borg’s trainer, Lennart Bergelin.
Video game retailer GameStop has published its latest weekly ad–and there is one item in particular that stands out. Apparently in celebration of the upcoming launch of Gears of War 4, the retailer is now selling a 12-month Xbox Live Gold subscription with a pair of Gears of War-themed socks for $60.
$60 is the normal price for a year-long membership. As for the socks, they normally go for around $15, so it’s a nice bonus if you’re already planning to re-subscribe to the service and want some new socks. The cool-looking socks feature the franchise’s trademark Crimson Omen.
According to GameStop’s weekly ad, the Xbox Live/Gears of War socks bundle is exclusive to GameStop.
Gears of War 4’s official release date is October 11, but if you buy the $100 Ultimate Edition, you can start playing tonight at midnight. The Ultimate Edition is also included with the $450 Xbox One S bundle that goes on sale tomorrow, October 7.

“If you’ve been waiting for news about BG&E … Well here you go! We are delighted to confirm that Michel Ancel is currently working with the Ubisoft Montpellier studio on a new Beyond Good & Evil game.”
Beyond Good & Evil 2 was first announced in 2008, but Ubisoft didn’t show or talk much about it in the time following, leading many to question whether it was still in development. At E3 2016, Ubisoft chief executive Yves Guillemot confirmed that Ancel was working on Beyond Good & Evil 2, though he could not say when we’d see its official reveal.
“It’s difficult to say,” Guillemot said. “Michel is working on it, but he’s doing two games at the same time–he’s doing Wild at the same time. It’s coming along, but he has to spend more time on it, so we can see it faster.”
This isn’t the first time Ubisoft has said Beyond Good & Evil 2 is in development, but given the numerous pieces of concept art Ancel has posted lately, it seems like the company is ready to fully commit to the project this time.
The final cast and release date for the upcoming female-led reboot of Ocean’s Eleven have been announced. Ocean’s Eight will hit theaters on June 8, 2018, with a cast that includes Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, and Anne Hathaway.
As reported by Deadline, the movie will star Bullock, Blanchett, Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Awkwafina, and Sarah Paulson. It is directed by The Hunger Games‘ Gary Ross, and produced by Steven Soderbergh, who helmed the original Oceans trilogy.
According to The Tracking Board, Bullock will play the sister of Danny Ocean, the character portrayed by George Clooney in Soderbergh’s films.
“If you took all my favorite things and shook it up in a blender, this would be the Mindy Kaling movie,” she said.
In an interview with Slashfilm in June, Ross explained that he would very much follow the tone set by the hugely successful original trilogy. “I think it’s a pretty similar tone,” he said. “You know, Steven and I are incredibly close friends, and we would not have done this if we weren’t. I don’t think he would’ve wanted anyone to do it if we weren’t. This is very much an extension and a continuation.”
Ocean’s Eleven earned $450 million worldwide in 2001. While the two sequels weren’t quite as successful, they all proved to be considerable box office hits, helping the franchise reach more than $1.1 billion at the box office, according to Box Office Mojo.
