“Whatcha eating?” Janus Films is re-releasing a Japanese film from 1985 titled Tampopo, from director Jûzô Itami, highly acclaimed by critics and foodies as one of the best films about a love for food. Described as a “ramen western”, it’s about a truck driver who stops at a small family-run noodle shop and decides to help its fledgling business. Tampopo is played by Japanese actress Nobuko Miyamoto. The film also has a few vignettes about the relationship of love and food. I only recently fell in love with authentic Japanese ramen after moving to New York and traveling to Japan a few years ago, and now I desperately want to see this. The 4K re-release will play in a few select cinemas (listings here) and I’ll definitely be eating ramen after seeing it. For a full guide on ramen in Japan made in partnership with the re-release, click here. Enjoy! ›››

Sony has found a director for its upcoming Mulan movie, based on the the Chinese legend of a young woman who surreptitiously takes her father’s place in battle.
According to Deadline, Alex Graves has been brought on to direct the live-action film. Graves is a TV veteran, having directed episodes of Game of Thrones, Homeland, Shameless, The Newsroom, and Bloodline, among others.
Sony’s Mulan movie is one of at least two currently in production. The other is a live-action reimagining of the 1998 animated classic Mulan from Disney. According to Deadline, Sony’s Mulan movie is “being designed for the international marketplace, so it[s] pace won’t necessarily be determined by progress on the Disney film.” Sony’s film is being written by Jason Keller (Escape Plan, Mirror Mirror).
As for the Disney Mulan movie, it is scheduled to land in theaters on November 2, 2018. Additionally, the lead role is expected to be played by a Chinese actress, with Disney kicking off a global casting search soon.
A number of Disney properties are getting turned into live-action movies. Maleficent, Cinderella, and The Jungle Book have already released, with Beauty and the Beast set for a March 2017 premiere. Other films in the works include Cruella, which stars Emma Stone and is based on 101 Dalmations; Tink, with Reese Witherspoon as Tinkerbell from Peter Pan; and the recently announced Lion King remake, which has Iron Man and The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau attached.

Capcom has released a pair of new Resident Evil 7 gameplay videos. The clips are very brief, showcasing some of the game’s features. The first video spotlights the horror game’s save point system, which involves finding cassette tape recorders to mark your progress.
The second video shows off some of the things you can do with your knife that do not involve killing. As you’ll see, you can use your knife to open containers, either with brute force or by way of a more surgical approach. Check out the two videos below.
These videos follow the first two in the Volume series that started last week. One of those videos teased that a character from past games may return, while the other showed off a shotgun.
Last month, Capcom released an update for the Resident Evil 7’s Beginning Hour demo called the “Twilight” demo. It allows players to explore “more of the mysterious, derelict mansion” featured in it.
Resident Evil 7 is set to release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on January 24, 2017. A deluxe version of Resident Evil 7 will be available for $89.99 and includes the game and a season pass with three extra story chapters.
GameSpot recently got the opportunity to play the upcoming survival-horror game and found that it continues to break tradition.
A new Resident Evil movie, The Final Chapter, also comes out in January 2017. At New York Comic-Con this month, Sony released a full-length trailer for the movie that teased an epic conclusion.

It’s a big day for Rock Band 4, as the music game’s long-awaited Rivals expansion comes out today. Not only that, but the new, foldable Jaguar Fender guitar made by PDP is also out now.
You can get Rivals as an expansion to Rock Band 4 for $30, while newcomers in search of the game and the Jaguar guitar can pick up a $90 bundle that includes both. If you already have a guitar, but want Rivals, you can pick it up for $60 in a bundle that contains all the songs from the base game and the updates from the past year like the Brutal and Practice modes. A Rivals-themed band kit, containing Rivals, the Jaguar guitar, and a drumset is available now for $200.
As announced previously, Rock Band 4’s Rivals expansion comes with the new Rivals mode, which is an asynchronous mode where multiple players “join up remotely as members of Crews to compete in a stats battle with other Crews around the world.” Rivals also comes with what’s called “Rockudrama,” a new story campaign that “pulls you through a twisting, funny, and sometimes tragic story of your band’s history and triumph over adversity.”
People who buy Rivals will also get access to other content updates coming out in the future, including synchronous online multiplayer, which arrives this holiday. More character customization options are also on the way.

Unfortunately for Rock Band fans in Europe, they will have to wait a little longer. Physical Rivals bundles have been delayed to November 8, Harmonix announced in a blog post. The developer also confirmed that everyone who buys a digital copy of Rivals between October 18 and November 1 will get bonuses in the form of an extra 10 songs and more Rock Shop items.
Additionally, Harmonix has kicked off a new sale to celebrate the launch of Rivals. Now through October 24, players can save 30 percent on the following track packs:

After a delay, Batman: Return to Arkham launches today on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Return to Arkham, which costs $50, contains updated versions of last-generation Batman games Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, which were developed by Rocksteady. Both contain “fully remastered and updated” graphics, while all previously released DLC is also included for both games.

Return to Arkham was developer by Virtuous, which previously worked on Heavy Rain‘s PS4 version and contributed to Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Additionally, the company created assets for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The first two Batman Arkham games garnered near-unanimous praise from critics. GameSpot’s Arkham Asylum review said: “everything about this game–the impressive visuals, stirring soundtrack, superb voice acting, fiendish puzzles, hard-hitting combat–feels like it has been lovingly crafted by a development team that’s both knowledgeable and passionate about the source material.”
Arkham City was also rated highly: “From the speedy exhilaration of soaring high above the streets to the atmospheric thrill of discovering long-forgotten secrets in the tunnels below Gotham, this is an unforgettable adventure that will keep you coming back to the cape and cowl long after you’ve seen the credits roll.”
Take a look at the side-by-side trailer below to see how the graphics compare.
The latest Batman console game was Batman: Arkham Knight. It came out in June 2015 and has reportedly sold 5 million copies. It was also developed by Rocksteady, and is apparently the last core Batman game from the studio, though it launched Batman: Arkham VR last week.
Rocksteady has discussed saying goodbye to the Batman series.

One of the perks of Battlefield 1’s $80 Early Enlister edition is the ability to play the World War I shooter a full three days early. That day has now come.
It’s October 18, so Battlefield 1 is now playable on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC for people who buy that version of the game. In addition to early access, you get the Red Baron Pack and the Lawrence of Arabia Pack, which come with themed weapons, vehicles, and items. You also receive five Battlepacks containing “stand-out weapon skins,” as well as an “exclusive appearance” on Behemoth vehicles.
Battlefield 1 was already playable on Xbox One and PC for EA/Origin Access subscribers; in fact, the 10-hour trial has been available since October 13 on those platforms. However, the content was limited. Now that the Early Enlister edition is out, people playing the Play First Trial on Xbox One and PC will receive access to the remaining multiplayer maps and modes.
Progress from the Battlefield Play First Trial will carry forward to the full game, so there is no need to worry about having to start over or anything like that.

Battlefield 1’s first DLC map is called Giant’s Shadow. It’s free for everyone and comes out in December. The game’s first premium pass expansion, They Shall Not Pass, comes out in March 2017.

Stephen Merchant is best known for his comedy roles in films such as Hot Fuzz and Hall Pass, as well as being the co-writer of the original British version of The Office. Merchant will soon be taking on a darker role as sewer-dwelling mutant Caliban in the upcoming third Wolverine movie Logan. Director James Mangold has tweeted a first image of the actor in character–check it out below:

This will actually be the second time in a year that Caliban has appeared in a movie within the X-Men universe. He featured in this summer’s X-Men: Apocalypse, played by Tómas Lemarquis.
Logan will be Hugh Jackman’s last time playing Wolverine, and the movie will also see Patrick Stewart return to the role of Professor X. Jackman recently hinted that the movie would take a different approach to its predecessors. “Basically it’s going to be different. Very different in tone and hopefully to anything we’ve done,” he told ET Online.
The notes contained in a page of script that Mangold tweeted earlier this month certainly suggest something more hard-hitting than the previous Wolverine movies. “If you’re on the make for a hyper choreographed, gravity defying, city-block destroying, CG f**kathon, this ain’t your movie,” they state. “In this flick, people will get hurt or killed when s**t falls on them.”
A first poster for the movie was revealed a few weeks ago–check it out here.
Logan hits theaters on March 3, 2017.

Take-Two, parent company of Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption developer Rockstar Games, has registered the domain name “ReadDeadOnline.com.” The registration was spotted by Twitter user Bill Wright and a WhoIs search lists the owner as Take-Two.
The URL currently redirects to a Rockstar Newswire post featuring the artwork released on October 17. It’s worth noting that domains can easily be registered by anyone and, in most cases, a publisher will secure a domain to keep others from doing so. The fact that RedDeadOnline.com has been registered isn’t definitive confirmation of its existence.

Nevertheless, Grand Theft Auto 5′s biggest success has been its multiplayer component, GTA Online. In April, as part of former Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies’ $150 million lawsuit against Take-Two, it’s was revealed that GTA Online has generated “at least” $500 million in revenue from microtransactions.
Using GTA Online’s gameplay and business model for more Rockstar Games franchises–such as Red Dead–would no doubt be of interest to Take-Two. Rockstar has been teasing something new related to Red Dead for the past few days. On October 16, the studio’s Twitter, Facebook, and official website switched to a Red Dead-themed logo, then the image showing seven cowboys was released a day later.
It has been speculated that a new entry in the series will be announced soon. Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Rockstar’s parent company, previously told investors to think about Red Dead as a “permanent” franchise like Grand Theft Auto, so a new Red Dead is inevitable. Given the success of GTA Online, it would make sense to have a similar online component for the new Red Dead title too.
Of course, Red Dead Redemption had its own online multiplayer mode, which had some open-world gameplay. Players could create a posse and roam around the Wild West assaulting gang bases, hunting wildlife, or soaking in the scenery.
In May, Take-Two teased that Rockstar would announce a new game “soon,” but said the project wouldn’t launch until April 2017 at the soonest.
Rockstar is also working on mysterious new IP. On October 17, Take-Two Interactive also filed a new trademark application for something called “Ghost Story.”
