  • Harry Potter Spinoff Sequel Fantastic Beasts 2 Will Be Set in Paris

Harry Potter Spinoff Sequel Fantastic Beasts 2 Will Be Set in Paris

The Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is yet to hit theaters, but things are moving ahead with the sequels. It has now revealed that the next movie will be set in Paris.

    No Caption Provided

The news was reported by Empire Magazine, who state “what we do know is that the already-underway sequel will travel to Paris.” (via Digital Spy.) This links into previous comments made by director David Yates, who said in a Q&A that “we next see Newt in another big capital city. It’s not going to be New York. It’s somewhere else entirely.”

“[Potter creator JK Rowling] has actually written the script and it’s just as magical and just as marvellous as the first one–but very different,” he added.

Last month, Rowling confirmed that there would be no fewer than five movies in the series, and earlier this week it was reported that Johnny Depp will star in the first sequel.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits theaters on November 18 and stars Eddie Redmayne, in addition to Colin Farrell (In Bruges), Katherine Waterston (Steve Jobs), Zoe Kravitz (Mad Max: Fury Road), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), and Ezra Miller (Justice League). While it is set to make a lot at the box office in its debut weekend, it will still make less than any Harry Potter movie, according to projections.

  • Battlefield 1-Like Dogfighting Comes to Halo 5 in New Fan Creation

We’ve seen some seriously impressive Halo 5: Guardians Forge creations in the past, including Halo versions of Qudditch and Star Wars podracing. Now, someone has used the game’s Forge tools to bring Battlefield 1-like dogfighting to the game–and it looks pretty fun.

The map is called “WWF Fire in the Sky” and it was created by JoeAct20. As explained in the overview video below from ZannyVids, the “Air Superiority” mode supports 2v2, 4v4, 6v6, and 8v8. JoeAct20 melded a Warthog onto a Banshee, making the hybrid vehicle look like a war plane. Two players sit in each plane; one flies the Banshee and the other uses the Warthog turret to shoot down enemy planes.

The map itself looks fairly expansive, giving players the space and freedom to fly around and approach enemies from different angles. Watch the video above to see the mode in action.

You can download the map here and the gametype here.

In other news about Halo 5, the game celebrated its first birthday last week. Developer 343 Industries has already released nine free expansions for the game–and the studio is not done yet. You can expect more maps for Warzone Firefight, new Forge canvases, an “improved spectator experience,” and the ability to join live custom games on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC.

Additionally, 343 is working on improvements for matchmaking and Halo 5’s servers. 343 will share concrete details on what’s coming “in the not-so-distant future.”

  • Big DRM-Free PC Sale Begins on GOG

Big DRM-Free PC Sale Begins on GOG

The Witcher developer CD Projekt’s PC store, GOG, has launched a fall sale. Dubbed the “Monstrous Fall Sale,” the promotion offers “hundreds” of deals where games are up to 90 percent off.

There will be 10 days of deals in all, running now through November 13. Some of today’s offers include The Witcher 3 Game of the Year edition for $30, Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition for $20, Superhot for $15, and Stardew Valley for $11. Go to GOG’s site to see all the deals–there are lots more.

New deals will be added every day for the duration of the sale. Additionally, Little Big Adventure 2 is now completely free, but only for 48 hours, ending on Saturday, November 5. The game normally sells for $6.

Another element to GOG’s Monstrous Fall Sale is that shoppers unlock XP for every dollar spent and every time they “check in” to the sale. Unlock enough XP and you can get free copies of Expeditions: Conquistador, Dex, and Victor Vran. You can learn more about how this works here on GOG’s site.

One of the differentiating factors for GOG is that all of its games don’t have DRM. In other news about GOG, three EA games–Crysis, Crysis Warhead, and Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault–are each now available on GOG. It’s the first time they’ve been offered without DRM.

  • New Van Helsing Movie Will Feature a Modern Day "Monster Hunter"

New Van Helsing Movie Will Feature a Modern Day "Monster Hunter"

Universal’s classic monster movie universe will kick off next year, when the Tom Cruise-starring The Mummy hits theaters. There are plenty more connected films in the works, and new details have emerged about the Van Helsing reboot.

    No Caption Provided

Speaking to Collider, co-writer Jon Spaihts explained that the film will present a new take on the classic vampire hunter. “It’s a new creation, so it doesn’t owe much of a debt to prior films,” he said. “It is still a very romantic departure from the character as incepted in Bram Stoker’s novel, Dracula. This is a monster hunter with encyclopaedic knowledge, but it’s set in the present day and it’s filled with good stuff I’m not allowed to talk about.

“I’m very excited about this new incarnation of Van Helsing, and I hope that as the Universal monsters cinematic universe begins to take flight, we’ll see him cropping up in other stories as well.”

Spaihts is working on the film alongside co-writer Eric Heisserer. In July, Heisserer said that “early on, our inspiration for [Van Helsing’s] behavior and his mannerisms was all in Mad Max.” The last version of the vampire hunter was played by Hugh Jackman in the 2004 movie.

The Mummy is the only film in Universal’s monster universe to have a confirmed released date, and will arrive on June 8, 2017. It is directed by Alex Kurtzman, who co-wrote the first two Star Trek movies in the current reboot series. Russell Crowe is set to make an appearance as Dr Jekyll, and is expected to then reprise the role in a Jeykll and Hyde film.

It has also been reported that that Johnny Depp will star in The Invisible Man, while Dwayne Johnson is rumoured to be in consideration to play The Wolfman. Universal have scheduled further films in the series for April 2018 and February 2019.

  • Rainbow Six Siege Teaser Shows New Japan Map

Ubisoft has released a new teaser for its next Rainbow Six Siege content update, which is called “Operation Red Cross.” The video is a short look at the new map, which is in Japan.

“Our fourth post-launch free map is perched high above the streets of Nagoya, Japan, set on top of The Skyscraper,” read’s the video’s description. “Get ready for pulse-pounding rappels in the hazy morning sun with Operation Red Crow!”

The Operation Red Crow DLC will be fully unveiled on November 12 and 13 during the Rainbow Six Siege Pro League semi-finals and finals. Ubisoft will host a live panel and also a demo of the new content.

Although a new Operator isn’t featured in a video, a previous leak indicated the Red Crow DLC will have a new character. A Twitter user named Jon Kay posted a video showing footage of what he alleged are the new Operator and map for Season 4 of Rainbow Six Siege. The map shown in this video lines up with what’s shown in the teaser above.

In other Rainbow Six Siege news, a leaked Ubisoft survey has indicated the game could get a second season pass, although content like new maps and Operators would likely continue to be offered for free to everyone.

In GameSpot’s Rainbow Six Siege review, Scott Butterworth awarded the title 8/10, saying “there’s nothing else like it” when it works.

“It’s not designed to appeal to all players, and that’s exactly what allows it to be something special. With so much strategic depth, those periods between firefights actually become some of the most rewarding, while firefights themselves are made all the more intense by the knowledge that you’re fighting for your life, not just your kill/death ratio.”

  • Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare's YOLO Mode Will Test Your Skills

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare features a number of modes that will truly test your skills. As detailed on Activision’s blog, the Specialist Mode is unlocked once the campaign is completed on any difficulty. It is described as “intensely realistic” and “not for the faint of heart.”

In this mode you can only heal with Nano Shots as there are no health regeneration. That alone ratchets up the challenge, but there’s a whole lot more to it that’ll put you to the test. Take a look at the full list of special conditions introduced in Specialist Mode below.

    • You can only heal with Nano Shots, there is no health regeneration in this mode.
    • Helmets are your only protection from headshots. They will take permanent damage and will need to be replaced.
    • Both Nano Shots and helmets take up equipment slots, so remember to equip them in your loadout on the Retribution before each level.
    • Master the lean from behind cover mechanic, which will be critical for your survival. Approach the edge of cover while standing or crouching, and aim down sights when you see a chevron appear on the side of your crosshairs. You will auto-pop from behind cover as you ADS.
    • If you get shot in the legs, it will impact your movement. If you get shot in either arm, it will impact your ability to use equipment or aim down sights. Note: Your weapon can be shot out of your hands.

If you manage to complete Specialist Mode, you’ll get access to the YOLO Mode. As fans of Canadian rapper Wheel Chair Jimmy know, YOLO stands for “You Only Live Once,” so you can probably figure out what makes this Infinite Warfare mode tricky.

“This mode is unlocked after beating the game on Specialist, and well… you only live once. By that we mean genuine permadeath,” explained Activision. “If you die, you will start all the way back at the beginning of the entire game.”

Infinite Warfare will unlock at midnight ET on November 4 in North America, which comes out to 9 PM PT on November 3. If you preordered a premium version of Infinite Warfare on PS4, you can start playing Modern Warfare Remastered’s campaign right now.
