Overwatch’s Play of the Game feature is iconic as it is infamous. On one hand, it gives big moments a few seconds of fame and encourages friends and foes alike to say, “OK yeah, that was pretty cool.” But it goes against the grain of Overwatch’s team focus, and it misfires. A lot.
Hand-painted Knights and Bikes will be published by Double Fine and hasa new trailer. The game, originally Kickstarted earlier this year, tells the tale of two children exploring crazy shit on there bikes kind of like the Goonies. Its two creators previously worked on games like Tearaway and LittleBigPlanet.
Another wicked cool short film discovery – another one you must watch. Echo Torch is a sci-fi short about an inventor who builds an “electrical torch that reveals a hidden world layered upon our own.” The concept itself is quite unique, and I love the visuals – you can see the cool blue torch on the poster, but to actually see it work so flawlessly in this short is wonderful. Echo Torch is directed by Chris Preksta, starring James Fitzgerald as the torchbearer. This has an awesome old school vibe to it, almost like Ghostbusters, and the VFX work is magnificent – making it that much more believable. I also appreciate how the film doesn’t rely on dialogue, only just silence and great sound design. There’s also a beautiful story bringing it all together. ›››
We were bound to hit a lull in the excitement that comes from Marvel movies, especially the origin story part of the deal. That natural – and vital – aspect to the expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been played out up, down, and all over the place to the point we find ourselves craving something, anything outside the norm. Thank God for Doctor Strange, that atypical, origin story for which we’ve been waiting. Sure, it delivers on the excitement and humorous fun we’ve all come to expect, but under the direction of Scott Derrickson, the Marvel superhero who deals in mysticism and the strange, otherworldly creatures knocking on the door to our plane of existence comes alive with unexpected and surprisingly fresh results. ›››
In addition to PS4 Pro and HDR support, the update adds “improved quality of stereo audio.
As for the Beta Test playlist, this features Classic Mode, which is a “back-to-basics” take on team deathmatch with minimal items. The mode is playable through the weekend. Looking ahead, Naughty Dog said in the official patch notes that it will try out “other variations” of the mode in a second Beta Test weekend, beginning on November 11.
The patch notes also reveal a sale on bundles, as they are all marked down 70 percent through November 10. Additionally, Ranked Season 3 has begun, with these changes (written by Naughty Dog):
Ranked Changes:
You can no longer see which players have joined the lobby until the match begins
Qualifier matches are now only required when moving between full ranks (e.g. Silver to Gold). Moving within a rank (e.g. Silver III to Silver II) doesn’t require any qualifiers.
Players can now be kicked during a ranked match for networking issues
The new Uncharted 4 multiplayer patch also makes a gameplay tweak so that players can nolonger take cover behind something that is completely offscreen. “This led to many situations where players accidentally became stuck to cover when attempting to roll,” Naughy Dog said.
There are also a handful of bug fixes; check out the patch notes below to see them all.
Bugfixes:
Fixed a couple bugs where player could lose a mystical they purchased after switching loadouts
Fixed teammates being able to bump the player’s camera when in aim mode
Fixed a bug where Bounty Hunter matches would not increment the total score earned used for unlocking new boosters
Fixed some collision issues on Rooftops
Fixed an issue with Shield of Asgard Mystical cancelling when player attempts to melee immediately after activation
Fixed issue where Team Deathmatch and Command matches could start with uneven teams
Cinema Mode fixes:
Fixed problem with rewinding several times causing a permanent black screen
Fixed issue when cinema file ends causing unwanted black screens
Fixed a crash in cinema caused by a late joiner
Fixed a crash that occurs during cinema replay
NOTE: In this patch, cinema files have switched over to a new version. This will erase any older cinema files.
Other stability fixes:
Fixed crash that can occur when connecting to multiplayer
Fixed black screen hang during loading if any user loses connection to host during the load into the game
Fixed a crash that occurred during Ranked TDM
Fixed a crash that could occur when being downed while hanging off of an edge while over water
You might have seen a Brutal Legend image circling around the internet this week, featuring the caption, “Ormagoden Lives.” Unfortunately for fans, it wasn’t a teaser for Brutal Legend 2.
Developer Double Fine clarified on Twitter, “Today in killjoy news: This was a fan site posting, and nothing to do with us. Sorry if you got excited!” The original Facebook post was deleted, but you can see the image here on NeoGAF. Complicating the matter somewhat was that Double Fine’s own Lee Petty even posted the Ormagoden image, but he since confirmed “there is no Brutal Legend 2.”
Hey, there is no Brutal Legend 2. I was just sharing some artwork and fondly remembering Brutal Legend! Sorry for the confusion!
In another tweet, Double Fine said was it’s been saying for a long time about the possibility of a Brutal Legend sequel: it hasn’t been ruled out but it’s not the works now. “Not saying it’s never happening, but we have no plans right now, and will be working on Psychonauts 2 for AGES!” the studio said.
Schafer also previously teased that he’d like to explore Brutal Legend’s Lionwhyte character (voiced by Judas Priest singer Rob Halford) in a new Brutal Legend game or DLC. Brutal Legend main character Eddie Riggs was voiced by Jack Black; he “might be up for” returning to the character for a sequel
Halo 5: Guardians may already be more than a year old, but developer 343 Industries seems to be far from finished when it comes to continued support.
In addition to new maps on the way, 343 has now revealed further tweaks and additions it plans to make. In its latest weekly blog post, the developer outlined some of these, beginning with improvements for Halo 5’s servers. While the overall online experience is “pretty great,” the developer said, it’s also aware of “a few specific issues that seem to be increasing in prominence.”
Thankfully, 343 is on the case and plans to update Halo 5 with some improvements soon.
“As a commitment to sustaining a fun and enjoyable online experience along with a consistent and fair competitive landscape, the team is actively investigating these reports,” 343 said. “In fact, I’m told there will be a very small update pushed out tentatively as early as next week that’s strictly under-the-hood work to further assist in identifying the root causes of reported instances of higher-than-usual latency, disconnects as well as melee registration to help facilitate a fix.”
The developer also teased that a “Classic” playlist is coming to Halo 5 “relatively soon.” No details were provided regarding what this playlist may entail, however.
Also in the blog post, 343 discussed Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The compilation game had a tough launch in November 2014, with issues abounding. 343 said in the update that “nobody here has forgotten the launch issues and how it impacted the Halo community. It’s something that everyone in this studio lives through every day.”
The game has no doubt gotten better, and it is currently played by “a lot of people,” 343 said. Still, “it’s not perfect,” the studio admitted. There are some “oddities and inconsistent behaviors” affecting the experience, according to 343. As for future patches to fix these problems, there is no guarantee they will ever happen, but 343 is monitoring the situation.
“While I can’t definitively commit to specific fixes at this exact moment, rest assured that MCC continues to be discussed and researched internally as part of the broader ‘Halo sustain’ plans and priorities, including the potential of playlist refreshes,” the developer said.
Also in the blog post, 343 confirmed that it has no plans right now to add a Halo: Reach-style Firefight mode to Halo 5.
Going back to Halo 5, the game’s newest free content update was September’s Anvil’s Legacy, which was the ninth free expansion. Halo 5’s other expansions included The Battle of Shadow and Light (November), Cartographer’s Gift (December), Infinity’s Armor (January), Hammer Storm (February), Ghosts of Meridian (April), Memories of Reach (May), Hog Wild (May), and Warzone Firefight (June).
The future update will add more maps for Warzone Firefight, new Forge canvases, an “improved spectator experience,” and the ability to join live custom games on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC.
