Remember, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto doesn’t just make games, he plays them. And one that he’s liked a lot over the last few years has been Minecraft, though not necessarily because it’s something he likes playing. It’s because he wishes Nintendo had made it instead.

There has never been a good Akira game. There have been bad ones, however, and more interestingly, there have been cancelled ones like this Game Boy effort, the remains of which were recently bought by a video game collector and are somewhat playable.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands reportedly contains one of the largest open worlds that Ubisoft has ever created. Now, we have a better idea of how big the world is.
Polygon reports that the game’s map is divided into 21 regions, each of which has its own unique features like towns, waterways, and people. Additionally, there are 11 unique biomes, containing their own climates and animals.
“We have a full agenda for the NPCs, so they really live in the world,” technical art director Benoit Martinez told Polygon. “They go to bed at night. They get up. They go to work. Whether or not you interact with them or not, they live their own life.”
You can see images of Wildlands’ map here at Polygon, while the site also has an in-depth feature on the game you can read here.

Wildlands is set in Bolivia. Set in the near future (“a few years from now” is the official word), the game seems players going behind enemy lines to take down a drug cartel. The game is playable solo or with up to three others in four-player co-op. Another major element of Wildlands is its openendedness. “Players will have a total freedom of choice to accomplish their missions how they want and watch as the world reacts to their actions,” Ubisoft said.
For more on Wildlands, check out this GameSpot preview video that covers the game’s stealth missions. You can also read GameSpot’s preview from E3 2016.
The game is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on March 7, 2017. A beta will be held before launch–find out more about it here.

At PlayStation Experience this month, Hideo Kojima confirmed that his new studio partnered with Killzone developer Guerrilla Games to use its Decime engine for Death Stranding.
Now, Kojima has spoken more about that partnership. Across a series of tweets (via DualShockers), Kojima likened this to the Cold War space race…well, he explains it best. Here you go:

During the PSX panel announcing the partnership, Guerrilla boss Hermen Hulst said the Decima engine has taken a “quantum leap” forward in the past few years to get it ready for this project. Kojima added that he “had a very good feeling” about Guerrilla after meeting with the team.
There was a reference to the engine’s ability to handle an open-world game, though that doesn’t necessarily indicate Death Stranding will be open-world. Kojima also confirmed the second trailer was running in real-time on a PS4 Pro.
Death Stranding is in development for PlayStation 4 and PC. For more, check out all of GameSpot’s previous coverage of the game here.

The developers behind Friday the 13th: The Game have confirmed that the character Tommy Jarvis will appear in the new game as a playable character portrayed by Thom Mathews.
As reported by RelyOnHorror, Jarvis will work alongside the camp counselors as they try to stay alive as Jason tries to kill them. As you can see in the announcement trailer, Jarvis’ famous taunt (“maggot head!”) is in here, while the likeness is based on Mathews. He was the third actor to play Jarvis, following John Shepherd and Corey Feldman.
We can see that Jarvis wields a shotgun, but his other abilities are unknown.
Friday the 13th: The Game received more than $800,000 in its crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. Its original goal was $700,000, and it met stretch goals to add three different kills.
In other news, the game was recently delayed to 2017, in part to give the team time to make a single-player campaign. People who preorder the game early through its beta–get more details here.

Rogue One was directed by Godzilla‘s Gareth Edwards. It stars Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Ben Mendelsohn, Diego Luna, and Forest Whitaker. It comes to theaters on December 16.
In other news, Lucasfilm has released a featurette that shines a light on the music that Michael Giacchino wrote for Rogue One. As you’ll see, the music riffs on John Williams’ iconic score, but also has a flavor all its own. Watch it below:

With just two weeks to go before its release, Fox today released the “final” trailer for video game movie Assassin’s Creed, based on the Ubisoft franchise, and also put out a new clip for it. The trailer might be the best, most intriguing one yet, while the clip shows off more of the interaction between star Michael Fassbender and Michael Kenneth Williams. Check out both videos below.
Assassin’s Creed is directed by Justin Kurzel (Macbeth), and also stars Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, and Ariane Labed.
In a recent interview with Empire, Fassbender spoke about playing a darker, more ambiguous lead role. “It’s not like Star Wars, where you’ve got the light side and the dark side,” he said. “This is very ambiguous morally. Both of these parties–the Templars and the Assassins–are hypocritical at certain points. There are not clear-cut good and bad characters.
“I think it’s a little more provocative for an audience to see that. You know, ‘Should I be feeling that? Should I be backing this character?’ That’s always fun.”
Assassin’s Creed hits theaters on December 21, 2016.
