Spurred on by a very convenient, albeit delayed, cease and desist letter from Bethesda’s parent company Zenimax, Jupiter Hell – aka. the DOOM roguelike – has passed its funding goal on Kickstarter.

As discussed, Halo 5’s new Monitor’s Bounty update is allowing users to create some very cool stuff in the game’s Forge mode. And it’s not just for making minigames, either; there’s scope for some scripting that leaves us with a working calculator.

“Let’s play.” Ready for more? Universal has unleashed the first official trailer for Fast and the Furious 8, titled officially The Fate of the Furious (ugh), directed by F. Gary Gray (of Straight Outta Compton most recently). After the massive success of Furious 7 in 2015, this franchise continues to roll with Vin Diesel leading the way. The cast includes Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Scott Eastwood, Lucas Black, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Elsa Pataky, Nathalie Emmanuel, Kurt Russell, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, plus two newcomers to this one: Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron (as a character named “Cipher”). As expected, this looks absolutely ridiculous with insane stunts (in and out of cars) that seem to defy physics, not to mention common sense. This won’t be for everyone, but it does look fun. Enjoy. ›››

“The hacker will save the world.” Vertical Entertainment has debuted a trailer for a film called The Crash, about a stock market crash in the “near future”. Described as a “fast-paced, save-the-world thriller” about a stock market criminal who is secretly hired by the government to run a “shadow” stock market in order to keep the economy stable. This has an oddly impressive ensemble cast: Dianna Agron, Minnie Driver, Frank Grillo, John Leguizamo, Maggie Q, AnnaSophia Robb, Mary McCormack, Ed Westwick, Andrew James Allen and Christopher McDonald. As interesting as this may look, it actually seems to be some seriously absurd stock market propaganda, about how important the stock market is to the stability of the country. Truth is, it is bad, we’d be better off without it. But they don’t want you to think about that. ›››

Giant’s Shadow is set during the Battle of the Selle in France. The Behemoth on Giant’s Shadow will be the armored train, while players will have access to planes and horses, at the very least. The map’s name refers to the crashed zeppelin seen in the announcement video–watch it here.
A grenade-launcher crossbow is also included with the Giant’s Shadow DLC.
“With Giant’s Shadow comes the Grenade Crossbow, a powerful addition to the Support class’ arsenal,” reads an official description. “Based on one of many unique contraptions from the Great War, this gadget can silently fire two grenades of either the Fragmentation or High Explosive variety.”
Giant’s Shadow launches for free to all players on December 20. Battlefield 1 Premium members will get access a week earlier, on December 13. Looking ahead, Battlefield 1’s first paid expansion, They Shall Not Pass, comes out in March 2017.

It’s still very early days for 4K and HDR gaming, according to veteran Xbox developer Albert Penello. Appearing on Major Nelson’s podcast, Penello started off by saying he is surprised that the PlayStation 4 Slim and Pro models do not have a 4K Blu-ray drive. Microsoft hasn’t held back in letting people know the Xbox One S is the only new console out there today with a 4K Blu-ray drive.

On the subject of 4K and HDR gaming in general, Penello said it’s a good time for 4K and HDR, but it’s also very early. “This is the thing I like to remind people when everybody asks: ‘We’re just in the beginning of this.’ So games, and game developers, and TV manufacturers, we all have to get used to it,” he said. “Figure this out; what works, what do customers want.”
Penello went on to say that showing off 4K and HDR gaming and video content is “really hard” because you have to see the content on a supported set to see the benefits.
“Showing people what 4K and HDR looks like is really hard when you’re not watching the thing in 4K or in HDR,” he said. “How do we market that and be honest. You have to fudge things a little bit to show the differences, but you want to do it in a way that’s honest. So even telling customers what it looks like, we have to go through that journey.”
Also in the interview, Penello teased that there are some “big” announcements coming about entertainment apps and games that will support 4K and HDR.
Some of the Xbox One games that support HDR right now include Forza Horizon 3 and Gears of War 4. Check out GameSpot’s roundup to see all the games that support HDR now or will in the future.

Warner Bros. has released a new patch for Batman: Return to Arkham that adds support for the recently launched PlayStation 4 Pro console. As outlined in a forum post (via VideoGamer.com) the update delivers unspecified “visual upgrades,” in addition to a number of “performance and stability improvements.”
Here is a breakdown of those other improvements:
Your mileage may vary, but someone on Reddit claims this new patch, 1.02, is actually making the game run worse in some ways. Read the post here to learn more.
Return to Arkham came out in October for PS4 and Xbox One. The $50 package comes with updated versions of last-generation Batman games Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, which were developed by Rocksteady. Both contain “fully remastered and updated” graphics, while all previously released DLC is also included for both games.
Return to Arkham was developed by Virtuous, which previously worked on Heavy Rain‘s PS4 version and contributed to Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
