I’m so excited to see this! Every time I’m reminded that, right now as I type this, Wes Anderson is in the middle of making a brand new, stop-motion animated film (in the same vein as Fantastic Mr. Fox) entirely about DOGS, I pretty much go nuts. I love dogs! I love Fantastic Mr. Fox! I love Wes Anderson’s movies! A video has debuted on the service CrowdRise featuring Wes Anderson announcing the film, titled Isle of Dogs. Included in the video is one quick first look shot of the main dog Rex, voiced by Edward Norton, who also makes an appearance in this video. On the website, you can also see a bit of the concept art – mainly a Japanese man beneath some Japanese text, as well as, of course, a dog face. I hope we get to see more soon. ›››
“So what are we going to do about those two?” Don’t miss this! Saban Films has released one more trailer for the vulgar, hilarious indie comedy War on Everyone, from Calvary director John Michael McDonagh. Alexander Skarsgård and Michael Peña star as two corrupt cops from New Mexico who end up battling a British Lord, played by Theo James, who comes to town for his own piece of the pie. We’ve already featured afew different trailers for this, but another one won’t hurt. Especially because I feel like this film is going to be lost in the mix, and it’s going to end up a cult favorite in a few years, and everyone is going to say “why did I take so long to see this?” Well, now is the chance to add it to your calendar – opening in February. ›››
“I traveled many miles in tin cans…” TIFF has released a wonderful short film titled The Film Prayer, featuring narration by Keanu Reeves (who also produced the outstanding film vs digital documentary Side by Side a few years ago). It’s basically a short promo for TIFF’s “Save This Moment” campaign, bringing more awareness to film preservation and careful handling of film. The “prayer” which Reeves is reciting was written in 1920, supposedly by a projectionist. It was given to “film distributors to promote better handling of film and could be found inside film cans for many years.” A poignant reminder to keep film alive forever. ›››
“It’s almost too thrilling for words…” Seriously, don’t watch this trailer. It’s so bad. Just skip it. Move on and forget about this movie right now. Sony Pictures Animation has unveiled the first teaser trailer for The Emoji Movie and it’s awful, just terrible. This movie is completely unnecessary, it doesn’t need to be made. From the looks of it, they ripped off the concepts of The LEGO Movie (the main character who doesn’t fit in), Inside Out (the emotions) and Wreck-It Ralph (inside the digital world) and dumbed them down to tell a stupid story about emojis. The voice cast includes T.J. Miller, James Corden and Ilana Glazer. One of the alternate titles for this is “Emojimovie: Express Yourself“, which is even worse. This is going to be bad. ›››
FX’s hit drama Fargo has added more actors for Season 3. As reported by Variety, newly added cast members for Season 3 include David Thewlis (Harry Potter series), Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man), and comedian Jim Gaffigan. Scott McNairy, Karan Soni, Fred Melamed, and Thomas Mann have also come aboard for the next season of the show inspired by the Coen Brothers cult-classic movie.
The new additions follow previously confirmed Season 3 newcomers such as Ewan McGregor, Carrie Coon, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
Here’s a breakdown of what we know about the Fargo Season 3 actors and the characters they play, with descriptions from Variety:
McGregor — He plays two characters: brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy. “Emmit, described as the Parking Lot King of Minnesota, sees himself as an American success story, whereas Ray is more of a cautionary tale. Their sibling rivalry leads to a twisted path that begins with petty theft, but soon leads to murder, mobsters, and cut-throat competitive bridge.”
Thewlis — He plays V.M. Vargas, described as a “mysterious loner and true capitalist.”
Coon — She plays Gloria Burgle, a police chief and a newly divorced mother.
Winstead — She plays Ray’s girlfriend, Nikki Swango.
Stuhlbarg — He plays Sy Feltz, the righthand man to Emmit.
Gaffigan — He plays Gloria’s deputy at the police department, Donny Mashman.
McNairy — He plays Maurice Lefay, described as a “stone with a criminal past.
Soni — He plays the scientist Dr. Homer Gilruth.
Melamed — He plays Howard Zimmerman, “a mover and shaker with a knack for spinning yarn and making a profit.”
Mann — He plays Thaddeus Mobley, a sci-fi author.
Fargo Season 3 begins its shoot in Calgary in January. The season is scheduled to premiere in 2017.

Toy company Threezero has revealed some images of a new Game of Thrones figure based on the character Daenerys Targaryen–and it looks pretty incredible.
The 1/6th scale model (via IGN) stands 10.2 inches tall and nails the look of actress Emilia Clarke. The figure comes with multiple interchangeable hands, “highly detailed” clothing items such as a cloak, tunic, pants, vest, and neckwear. She also comes with a perch for her dragons, Rhaegal and Viserion, figures for which are included with a Threezero Store-exclusive version.
This version sells for $180, while the one without the dragons goes for $168. Both prices include shipping, and the estimated delivery date is the Q3 2017 (July-September). Go to the Threezero website to learn more.
Threezero also makes nice-looking figures based on other popular franchises such as Fallout, TMNT, Breaking Bad, and others.
There are a few good reasons to play Star Wars Battlefront this weekend. EA has announced that the game’s Death Star DLC will be free for everyone December 23-25, while the game will also pay out double XP during that time. Not only that, but everyone gets 5,000 Credits just for logging in.
EA says it’s offering the promotion to celebrate the holidays (via VG247).
The Death Star DLC, which originally came out in September, includes new maps set on the Death Star, as well as the multi-stage Battle Station mode. This essentially lets you recreate Luke Skywalker’s trench run from A New Hope, culminating in the destruction of the giant weapon.
All of Death Star’s maps and modes are available during the free play weekend, though it’s not immediately clear if the DLC’s heroes, weapons, and Star cards are available as well. Chewbacca and Bossk came to Battlefront with the Death Star expansion.
Battlefront’s newest DLC, Rogue One: Scarif, came out earlier this month. It features characters and content from the new movie, Rogue One.
You can get all four of Battlefront’s expansions (the other two are Outer Rim and Bespin) with the game’s season pass. Alternatively, they are available for $15 each. EA bundled the base game and all DLC together in the Battlefront Ultimate Edition, which sells for $40 but has been frequently discounted.
A new, free update for open-world crime game Mafia III has arrived, adding new car customization options and a racing mode, among other things.
Car customization was a “big request” from fans, publisher 2K Games said in a blog post. The new DLC adds 10 new customization options, six of which can be unlocked through normal gameplay. Three others are available with the Family Kick-Back DLC (it was free for people who preordered the game and goes for $5 otherwise), and one is a brand-new car called the Griffin Marauder.
To customize the cars, you need to visit any of the nine Big Rick’s Gararage locations throughout the game. There you can add things like decals, exhauts, spoilers, wheels, and superchargers. With the new update applied, there are now more than 50 customization options available in the game.
The Mafia III update also adds a racing mode. Available in the game right now are 12 races; six are circuit lap races and the other six are point-to-point ones. To unlock the races, you need to have a sit-down with all three of the game’s lieutenants. After that, race markers will show up in the world, provided you are not being chased by the police.
Placing highly in the races will earn you new customization options, while you can win the Griffin Marauder by “ruling the race courses,” 2K said. Here’s what the car looks like:
Three new outfits for main character Lincoln Clay also come with the update, including “Bad, Bad Mr. Burke,” “On the Prowl,” and “The Classico.” The only way to get that last one (pictured below) is to link your My2K account to Mafia III; you’ll also get the Il Duca revolver for doing this.
Finally, 2K teased that more free updates, which will include things like more customization items and bug fixes, are headed to Mafia III in the New Year.
Avengers: Infinity War, the third movie in the Marvel superhero team-up series, is set to start production in early 2017. A new casting call for the movie has revealed some details about which characters we can expect to see in the film–including the first big screen appearance for Captain Marvel.
As reported by Omega Underground, the casting call is primarily for “extras, stand-ins, photo-doubles, and possible featured roles.” However the listing, which is on moviecastingcall.org, also features a full cast list, including some previously rumoured characters.
Most notably, the list reveals that Captain Marvel will appear, ahead of her own movie in 2019. Brie Larson is listed as Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel’s alter ego–Larson was announced in the role back in July.
Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018, while the untitled fourth Avengers movie follows on May 3, 2019. Captain Marvel will be released on March 8, 2019.
Final Fantasy XV‘s latest patch is out now, bringing a New Game Plus mode as its standout feature.
This update’s New Game Plus mode allows you to play through the main story over again once you complete it. You can carry over all your existing weapons, magic, and skills into your second run, according to NeoGAF user rayman1990. The mode apparently does not offer any new difficulty options, however, while your Ultimate Blade and Regalia will return to their base states.
