I have to say, this is a particularly good edition of Star Wars Bits. Dare I say, it’s a must read. Let’s get right to it. Below, read about the following:
Eyes on Cinema uncovered this super cool older video of Star Wars sound designer Ben Burtt talking about designing the sound for when the Millennium Falcon’s hyperdrive doesn’t work. Eight sounds were mixed to create it. So cool.
StarWars.com revealed that the second season of Star Wars Rebels will debut at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim in April. Along with it, the full cast and crew will be on hand for multiple events and panels. Head to this link for more information.
If you haven’t seen Star Wars Rebels yet, a quick reminder that there are three marathons coming up this weekend.
Now, that last one is particularly significant in that they say “After Sunday’s Rebels marathon, go “INSIDE THE FORCE AWAKENS” with Disney XD for official trailer secrets you may have missed. Disney XD’s Jacob Bertrand (“Kirby Buckets”) will reveal a few fun tidbits of the latest STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS trailer.”
Can they really surprise us with something from the trailer we don’t know? I guess we’ll find out Sunday.
Speaking of surprise, JediNews reports Disney might reveal the Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser poster next week . The timing would make sense with The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies bringing people into theaters but this is unconfirmed. Star Wars teaser posters in the past have been things of beauty. If it does come out, you’ll see it here immediately.
Some truly awesome new Force Awakens fan art has hit the net over the last few days, as has been the case every day since the trailer came out. Here are a few of our favorite new ones thanks to Paul Shipper and the Poster Posse. Head to that link for more.

That’s according to Ridley Scott, at least. During a conversation about the intersection of making films based on some of the oldest stories (such as Scott’s new Exodus) and science fiction, the subject of Blade Runner 2 came up. Scott has recently said the Blade Runner 2 script was going well, and that he was very happy with the results. And now he says that Harrison Ford is also incredibly happy with the draft — Scott none-too-humbly reports that Ford called the draft Scott and Hampton Fancher have been working on “the best thing I’ve ever read.”
While speaking to MTV, Scott talked about the Blade Runner 2 script and Harrison Ford. He said “it’s written and ready to go” and explained,
I sent him [the script] and he said ‘wow, this is the best thing I’ve ever read.’ It’s very relevant to what happened [in] the first one. I’m not just doing a sequel with lots of action and see how far we can go with the special effects, because you can’t really. [With] Blade Runner we kind of landed on a somehow very credible future. And it’s very difficult to change that because it’s been so influential with everything else.
We’d rather get that straight from Harrison Ford, frankly, but we’ll have to settle for this for now.
He also talks a bit about Prometheus 2, saying that, yeah, it’ll be Shaw and David’s story.
Oh, you have to. You can’t have a person go off into the galaxy and have a person who’s still got his head off. Once that head goes back on he’s really dangerous, but he’s also very seductive. So maybe he’ll persuade her to put the head back [on].
While Scott was originally set to direct Blade Runner 2, in recent weeks he has possibly fallen away from that particular role. Now, it appears that someone who is as-yet unnamed will direct the film in 2015 while Scott makes The Martian and gets to work on Prometheus 2.
(In the MTV interview, Scott says that “the right answer for now” is that he’s debating about whether or not to direct.)
Here’s the video, from MTV:

The King Kong prequel Skull Island just got a new title and release date. Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and starring Tom Hiddleston, the film is now called Kong: Skull Island. Additionally, it has moved from November 4, 2016 to March 10, 2017. It’ll be released in 3D and IMAX 3D.
Below, read the brand new plot description for Kong: Skull Island.
Here’s the new plot description of Kong: Skull Island:
In the spirit of its worldwide blockbuster Godzilla, Legendary Pictures presents a bold new take on the mythos of another iconic beast with KONG: SKULL ISLAND, which stars Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers and Thor series). Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) and written by John Gatins (Flight) and Max Borenstein (Godzilla), KONG: SKULL ISLAND will fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island. Legendary’s story honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore, but places it in an entirely new, distinct timeline. Thomas Tull (Godzilla, The Dark Knight, Pacific Rim) and Jon Jashni (Godzilla, upcoming Warcraft) will produce and Alex Garcia (Godzilla) will executive produce. The film will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D by Universal Pictures.
Not a lot of information there that we didn’t already know but, it’s very encouraging that things are moving forward like this. If you follow the director on social media, you’ve probably seen that he’s been all over the world looking at some absolutely beautiful locations. Lush, evocative natural landscapes. One can only assume, these are the initial location scouts for what we’ll all see, in 3D and IMAX 3D, on March 10, 2017.
As of right now, there is already a movie opening that weekend, the Untitled Kevin Lima Bollywood Musical, which is an animated project being released by Fox. So, no big competition on that front. This date is a few weeks ahead of another Legendary project, Pacific Rim 2. Gonna be a busy few weeks for those guys.
What do you think of the new title, Kong: Skull Island?

The trove of emails recently unearthed and leaked to media from the massive Sony hack have revealed that Sony Pictures is working hard to secure the rights to make an animated Super Mario Bros. movie.
BuzzFeed obtained a series of emails that speak to Sony’s deep negotiations with Nintendo over the rights. In an email dated October 23, 2014 with the subject line “Mario,” producer Avi Arad (Spider-Man) explained to Sony Pictures executive Amy Pascal that, “I am the proud father of mario the animated film.”
Arad also sent Pascal images of him standing next to Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata, saying, “Happy ceo, lets get together, it’s the mother load. [sic]”

At this point, it seemed as if Arad’s negotiations with Nintendo for the Super Mario Bros. animated film rights had been finalized. Pascal sent the above email to Tom Rothman of Sony Pictures subsidiary TriStar Pictures, saying, “Avi closed Mario brothers. Animated.”
Arad has since denied that Sony’s deal with Nintendo for a Super Mario Bros. animated movie has actually gone through, telling BuzzFeed that his negotiations with the Japanese game giant are “just the beginning.”
Still, it appears Sony has already spent some time thinking about how it could build out a Mario animated film series. Pascal mentions in a subsequent email that she thinks Genndy Tartakovsky, director of Hotel Transylvania and creator of Dexter’s Laboratory, would be “perfect” for the job of bringing Mario to the big screen for Sony. However, a representative for Tartakovsky said he “is not involved.”
Other emails from Sony Pictures executives say a deal with Nintendo could lead to a “Mario empire” for Sony, which may already have as many as four movie ideas in mind.
Sony and Nintendo are competitors in the console space. However, no emails were discovered that spoke to Sony Pictures feeling anxious or concerned about pursuing the Mario movie deal even though Sony Computer Entertainment (i.e. PlayStation) and Nintendo are rivals.
GameSpot has contacted Nintendo and Sony for comment.
The most recent Mario movie was 1993’s Super Mario Bros., starring Bob Hoskins as Mario and John Leguizamo as Luigi. Hoskins, who died earlier this year, said the Mario movie was the worst project he’d ever been involved with.
The Mario movie, if indeed it’s happening, would become one of many video game movies currently in development. Ubisoft has a total of six films in the pipeline, including movies based on Assassin’s Creed, Watch Dogs, and Splinter Cell. Meanwhile, Sony is making a Last of Us movie, Konami is moving forward on a film based on Metal Gear Solid, Blizzard Entertainment has its Warcraft movie, and an Angry Birds film is scheduled for 2016. Capcom is also working on new Dead Rising and Resident Evil movies.

Assassin’s Creed Unity‘s “Patch 4,” the one that should fix most of the open-world game’s remaining issues, will be released on Monday, December 15 across all platforms, Ubisoft has announced on its website.

As previously explained, this patch will address a long list of issues, and should improve stability, performance, online matchmaking, and connectivity overall. You can read the full Assassin’s Creed Unity Patch 4 update notes through our previous coverage.
Finally, Ubisoft says PC players using AMD video cards should install the latest drivers before applying the update on Monday.
Unity was released in November, though it–like other big-name games this year–suffered through some technical troubles out of the gate. Ubisoft has released a number of patches so far, and is even offering up free DLC and full-games to apologize for the bugs.
Are you still running into bugs and other issues in Unity? Let us know in the comments below!

Electronic Arts is adding another free game to EA Access, the company’s Xbox One subscription service that gives users free games, early demos, and discounts for a range of titles.
The Vault will be updated December 18 to include EA Sports UFC, the publisher’s first title in the series since taking over from the now-defunct THQ in 2012. As with all other titles in The Vault, EA Access members are getting the full version of EA Sports UFC, not just a demo.
EA previously pledged never to remove games from The Vault, meaning the value of EA Access is only going to grow over time.
EA Sports UFC becomes the seventh free game inside The Vault. The others are listed below.
In addition to free games, EA Access members can play upcoming EA games five days before their release and get a 10 percent discount on all EA digital content. The subscription cost is $5/month or $30/year.
Currently, EA Access is available only on Xbox One. Sony initially said EA Access did not offer a strong enough value for PlayStation 4 owners, though the company has since explained that it the service could one day show up on PS4 if certain business requirements are met.

Borderlands, the RPG-like shooter which went on to sell more than 5 million units, is likely coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as a deluxe remastered edition.
Publishing label 2K Games has yet to officially announce the next-gen update, but a listing on the Australian Classification Board appears to have revealed the publisher’s plans prematurely. Little else can be gathered from the listing, though it does suggest that 2K Australia–which was the principal developer of Borderlands: The pre-Sequel–has been delegated duties to build the port.
Remastered updates of popular last-gen games have become a common feature of the gaming calendar. Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, The Last of Us Remastered, and Grand Theft Auto 5 are some of the most popular re-releases on next-gen systems.
Gearbox Software, the creator of the Borderlands series, recently suggested that it was the comparatively low installed-base of the next-gen consoles that convinced it to ship Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel on last-gen machines only.
