We all just assumed Avengers: Infinity War, Parts 1 and 2, would see The Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy teaming up to fight Thanos. Looking at the schedule of things, that just seemed like the logical way to go. And while we don’t know that’s not how it’s going to go, in a new interview, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 writer and director James Gunn put that simple, straightforward, team plus team crossover in doubt. He said that “Thinking that everything is going to come together in a perfect way is not necessarily the way it’s going to happen.” What could that mean? We’ll explore the Avengers Guardians of the Galaxy crossover below.
Gunn talked about the Avengers Guardians of the Galaxy crossover in an extended interview with ScreenJunkies. There’s lots of interesting stuff here, but this quote in particular comes in at 3:05.
If you prefer not to watch, Gunn is asked if the darker tone of Avengers: Age of Ultron will have any bearing on the tone of Guardians of the Galaxy 2. His response:
It’s trying to make it effect it as little as possible. We really are separate from the Avengers, and I don’t think people should assume too many things about the Guardians play in all this. We have our own galaxy to take care of. We have our own galaxy to save. Earth is the Avengers’ province. Thinking that everything is going to come together in a perfect way is not necessarily the way it’s going to happen.
Again – that’s not Gunn saying we won’t see the full Guardians team standing alongside the full Avengers team (or teams), just that it’s not a foregone conclusion and that if it does happen, it could happen in a way we don’t expect. That could mean a character or two die before the Infinity War. It could mean only one or two of the Guardians ends up fighting that battle. It could be the other way around, with only a few Avengers fighting in the battle. Or it could mean Avengers: Infinity War won’t feature the Guardians at all, and that maybe a crossover happens after that.
Also of note, Gunn is kind of specifically talking about Guardians of the Galaxy 2 here. He’s a surgeon with his wording when it comes to this stuff. It’s very possible Infinity War is exactly what we think, but he’s only referring to Guardians 2 in this specific quote, we just don’t know that yet.
Personally, I still believe we’ll somehow see The Hulk in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (if not there, where?) and he’ll battle Thanos with them in that film. Then, through him, is how the Guardians realize what’s going on with The Avengers.
Either way, it’s very interesting quote to consider when you try and map out the trajectory of Marvel’s Phase 3 from Captain America: Civil War onward. When do you think we’ll see an Avengers Guardians of the Galaxy crossover?

Update: Valve has restored Steam’s Holiday Auction event and posted the following note:
“On Thursday Dec 11th we had an issue with Gems that meant we needed to reset the Auction and start over. We apologize for the interruption. Any placed bids will need to be placed again.
All Gems created by you have been returned to your Inventory
All Gem purchases from the Community Market have been reimbursed. View your Store Transactions to see the Wallet Credit to your account.
All previous Auction bids have been canceled and the Auction has been reset.
Additionally, anyone who traded away items in exchange for Steam Gems on the first day of bidding will receive a copy of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in their Inventory.”
The Auction will run from December 15 7:45 a.m. to December 18 10:00 a.m., when Valve confirmed the Steam Holiday Sale will start.
The original story appears below.
Valve has closed its Holiday Auction just hours after the promotion went live, after it quickly emerged that some users were exploiting the system.
Some 100 copies of two thousand Steam games were due to go up for auction from December 15, meaning there were 200,000 games ready to bid on. What made this promotion unique is that users wouldn’t need to bid with money, but instead Steam Gems, which can be acquired by deleting various sundry items such as trading cards and badges.
Those who play games on Steam will have noticed they accrue such items just by buying and playing games, meaning that how many gems each person owns is supposed to reflect their dedication.
However, hours after the auction went live, some users discovered a way of exploiting the system via trading, while other users appear to have found ways to duplicate their own gem currency. One user, for example, was discovered on Reddit to have obtained 1.9 billion gems, which is theoretically enough to win every auction.
Valve has elected to delete that person’s gem inventory, and due to the exploitable nature of the promotion, has suspended it.
“Sorry, but there have been some issues with Gems and the Steam Holiday Auction has been temporarily closed,” the company wrote on its auction website.
“The elves are working frantically to get the issues sorted out, and the auction will start again as soon as they’re done.”

Here’s the full schedule of events (all times PST):
The best deal of the bunch is on the PS4 version of Wolfenstein: The New Order for $15, which is the cheapest price we’ve seen for the game yet, especially on consoles.

“It’s inevitable some proportion of that will happen, and very hard to prevent it completely” — Fergal Gara
Gara went on to say that Sony intentionally only announced where fans could buy the commemorative consoles–with only 12,300 being made worldwide, they are indeed rare–through channels that require “fan knowledge.”
“It’s inevitable some proportion of that will happen, and very hard to prevent it completely,” Gara explained about the eBay sales. “We did think things through. But in each and every case, the way you get hold of one of these consoles requires some fan knowledge, so we’re trying to tap into the people who love the brand the most, and put them at an advantage, because they’re the people who keep us in business, who inspire this whole 20 year legacy.”
The 20th Anniversary PS4 consoles went on sale last weekend during PlayStation Experience and sold out almost immediately. For more on the commemorative console, which is modeled after the Original PlayStation and sells for $500, check out GameSpot’s unboxing video above.

A reader sent us an image of a Marth Amiibo with two swords and no sheath. Marth is only supposed to have one sword and one sheath, as you can see in the official, Nintendo-prepared image below.
This is what the Marth Amiibo should look like
We’ve seen multiple images and three videos that seem to suggest that this Marth Amiibo is a bonafide manufacturing blunder, and not someone trying to pull a fast one on us.
We’re also told that the toy remains factory sealed, something we concluded was true after seeing videos that seemed to show the box had not been tampered with.
Of course, this is the Internet, and nothing is ever absolutely 100 percent.
This rumored Amiibo manufacturing error is particularly noteworthy because it’s the first we’ve ever seen of this kind of mistake. As such, it could become a valuable collector’s item, just like the legless Prince Peach Amiibo that sold for over $25,000 earlier this week.
If there’s enough interest around the dual-wielding Marth Amiibo, expect it to show up for sale on eBay, the reader told us. Marth could end up proving to be a true rarity, as some reports are coming in that the character may have already been discontinued by Nintendo.
Grand Theft Auto V‘s Los Santos is based on Los Angeles, so graffiti is a big source of the color in its concrete jungle. And while it’s easy to think of graffiti as simple window dressing, these things often come from a very real place.
Destiny is a frequent topic of conversation around Kotaku‘s team chat. Some of us play the game religiously, others have barely played. All of us struggle to get our heads around how a game can be so simultaneously brilliant and maddening.
