They’ll never leave… Our good friend and producer/co-host of The Golden Briefcase podcast Tim Buel has completed his first feature film, titled In Residence, and it’s now available to watch online for free. Early last year we supporter his Kickstarter for the project, which billed the film as a “shoestring horror flick” that they would shoot on their own for $5000. They got all the funding, and now little more than a year later, they’ve completed work. And to show it off they’ve released the entire horror film online for free for your viewing pleasure. Just don’t forget to support the guys who made this – Tim and Cody Rhyse, since they put everything into this. And it’s truly an independent, shoe-string budget film made by passionate filmmakers. ›››
Following a tease last week from Robert Downey Jr.about a big announcement coming eight days from last Wednesday, it sounds like we finally know what Marvel Studios has in store. A tease on television has revealed that a new trailer for The Avengers: Age of Ultron will arrive on Thursday, March 5th during the series premiere of ABC’s new drama series “American Crime.” Since ABC is owned by Disney, it’s not surprising to see synergy at work here to get as many eyes as possible on one of their promising new midseason series. The question is just what kind of new footage we’ll see in this new trailer. Maybe Vision? ›››
Production on Oliver Stone‘s drama about NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden is already in production with Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the lead role. The film is simply called Snowden and is already set for release on Christmas Day, so Open Road Films decided to tease the film early on with our first look at Gordon-Levitt as Snowden during his time in the U.S. Army in 2004, an element of his life that many people might not know about. With Stone behind the camera, we’re not sure what to expect from this real-life since he’s delivered presidential films like Nixon and W. on different ends of the spectrum, so stay tuned. Look! ›››
Ever since Iñárritu’s Birdman won Best Picture (and a bunch of other Oscars) a week ago, the film has received plenty of criticism and negativity. I, however, will defend the film as I think it’s an exciting and original look at the struggles of artistry, told through the opening of a stage performance. One of my other favorite films in recent year was another Oscar winner, Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan, and it is very similar to Birdman in many ways. Thanks to a tip from Film School Rejects, an editor named Miguel Branco has cut together a video showing side-by-side visual comparisons between Birdman and Black Swan. It’s rather mesmerizing to watch set to Alexandre Desplat’s lovely “Wong Chia Chi’s Theme” from Lust, Caution. ›››
Now this could end being up awesome. Hear me out. Not all car movies are going to turn out the same, but if they have Joe Kosinski at the helm that’s pretty much guaranteed. THR’s Heat Vision is reporting that Joe Kosinski, director of Tron Legacy and Oblivion, is now in talks for the Gran Turismo movie developing at Sony based on the racing video game. We’ve reported on it before, a few years ago when it was first picked up and when writer Alex Tse of Watchmenwas attached. It has the right team to turn out kind of amazing for a video game movie, here’s to hoping they pull it off. Kosinski is also attached to a few other projects. ›››
A brain, a beauty, a jock, a rebel and a recluse. Even though it’s about to be available on Blu-ray next week, a newly remastered version of The Breakfast Club is set to screen as a world premiere at 2015 SXSW Film Festival later this month. The film is celebrating it’s 30th anniversary, which is also why the Blu-ray is getting re-released for the 30th, and the festival premiere will be part of that promo. Cast members Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy will also be in attendance for a special Q&A. If you’re a big fan of this film and live in Austin (or are attending SXSW) this is the ideal event for you. Posting via the Square Enix USA Twitter account, the company also revealed that fans who pre-order the PS4 release will receive a free desktop calendar featuring Yoshitaka Amano’s artwork. Amano has provided artwork and logo designs for various Final Fantasy games, and served as the character designer on Final Fantasy I-VI.
Newly discovered Mass Effect Commander Shepard cosplay from visual artist Freya Willia is some of the best, most jaw-dropping we’ve ever seen. As seen on Willia’s Facebook page (via Fashionably Geek) are a series of photos showing off the costume that took her more than two years to create.
You can also check out this post that explains the great lengths Willia went to in her effort to create the female Commander Shepard cosplay. Well done!
Check out some of Willia’s images in the gallery below, but be sure to head to her Facebook page to see them all.
BioWare is currently making an all-new Mass Effect game. Recently, the developer teased that the game is “getting real” and may have multiplayer in some form.
Bethesda has announced the details of a new update for the PC version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. This update is centered around the game’s mod support, and more specifically, addressing some old Steam Workshop quirks.
The changes are few in number, but Skyrim mod users will be pleased. First, the Creation Kit no longer has a file size limit for Steam Workshop mods. This means you’ll no longer have to venture outside of Steam for mods larger than 100 MB, as has been the case since Skyrim was released in 2011. This could also make installation of those larger mods easier, as Steam Workshop typically handles the entire process.
Also changed is the way mods are downloaded. You’ll no longer need to open up the Skyrim launcher in order to begin mod downloads; everything will be handled right through Steam. In other words, this should do away with those times you take a few weeks (or months, or years) off from the game, open it up, and find that dozens of mod updates need to be downloaded because the Steam client wasn’t allowed to manage them. It’s an annoyance I know that I’ve dealt with more than once.
Before this update is released to the masses, it’s being beta tested “this week,” according to the Bethesda blog. You can access the beta updates for yourself by following the steps below.
Log into Steam
Click on your game Library.
Right click on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and select Properties.
Click on the Betas tab, and from the drop down select beta – Skyrim Beta
Next from Library, access Tools from the drop down.
Right click on Creation Kit and select Properties.
Click on the Betas tab, and from the drop down select beta – Creation Kit Beta
Steam will now restart. After Steam restarts, Skyrim will be updated to the Beta version currently available.

Xbox Live Gold members who don’t yet own an Xbox One can still claim its free Games With Gold titles every month so that they have access to them if they do eventually get their hands on the system. This isn’t new, but Microsoft has now made doing so possible right from an Xbox 360.
The process for claiming Xbox One games is simple: Go to the Games With Gold section in the Xbox 360’s dashboard, scroll to the left, select the “Free on Xbox One” option, and make the free purchase. It takes only a few seconds, as evidenced by the Major Nelson walkthrough video below.
Previously, Xbox 360 owners wanting to claim the month’s free Xbox One games had to do so through the Xbox website. It’s a small new option, but an appreciated one nonetheless.
For the month of March, you can grab both IDARB and Rayman Legends for Xbox One, as well as Tomb Raider for Xbox 360 (and, later this month, BioShock Infinite). The Xbox One games remain yours for as long as you’re an Xbox Live Gold subscriber, while the Xbox 360 games are yours forever.
