In 1977, Walt Disney Studios released Pete’s Dragon, a live-action/animated musical about a boy and his dragon. The film, which was nominated for two Academy Awards, stars Mickey Rooney, Helen Reddy, Red Buttons, Shelley Winters, and Charlie Callas as the voice of the animated dragon. 40 years later, Disney is introducing a whole new generation to Seton I. Miller and S.S. Field’s classic story. The remake, co-written and directed by filmmaker David Lowery (of Ain’t Them Bodies Saints previously), retains the sweetness of Don Chaffey and Don Bluth’s original film while reimagining the story for a modern audience. ›››

“Utterly irresponsible.” A new UK trailer has debuted for the absurd, vulgar and hilarious indie comedy War on Everyone, from Calvary director John Michael McDonagh. We featured a red band teaser trailer for this a few months ago, but it didn’t fully dive into the humor the way this new trailer does. Alexander Skarsgård and Michael Peña star as two corrupt cops from New Mexico who end up battling against a British Lord, played by Theo James, who comes to town for his own piece of the pie. This is one of those wild indie comedies that arrived out of nowhere and will earn a huge cult following, so jump on it now before everyone else discovers it. And don’t worry, this is definitely R-rated and totally worth seeing.Enjoy. ›››

“Is this a game? A test?” Paramount has debuted the first teaser trailer for the new Robert Zemeckis film, a passionate love story set during World War II called Allied. Brad Pitt stars as an intelligence officer stationed in North Africa in 1942, who encounters a French Resistance fighter named Marianne Beausejour on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. They later reunite in London but the war still stands in the way. Marion Cotillard also stars, with Lizzy Caplan, Matthew Goode, Raffey Cassidy, Charlotte Hope and Jared Harris. This looks like it’s much more about the romance than it is about war, but I’m intrigued to see what Zemeckis has been up to with Pitt and if his latest feature film is any good. Take a look below. ›››

“‘Above and beyond the call of duty’ – that’s what it says…” Gravitas Ventures has unveiled a trailer for a documentary called Beyond Glory, capturing the story of actor Stephen Lang as he performs his own play titled “Beyond Glory”. He first started performing “Beyond Glory” in 2004 – a one-man show where he tells eight different stories of Medal of Honor recipients. You’ll see a glimpse of some of his performances in this trailer and he looks tremendous, truly bringing powerful emotions to these stories of brave men fighting in wars. This shows how remarkably talented Stephen Lang is, and it’s worth watching for that reason alone. ›››

“I fear nothing. All is as the Force wills it.” Disney + LucasFilm have unveiled the second trailer for Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the first spin-off in the Star Wars universe, in theaters this December. A short teaser showed during Star Wars Celebration in London and this new full-length trailer first aired during NBC’s Olympics coverage. Starring Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, plus Mads Mikkelsen, Donnie Yen, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, Diego Luna, Jonathan Aris, Riz Ahmed & Alan Tudyk, Rogue One is about a group of rebels who set out on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star. This seriously looks amazing and I love how much this feels like it’s a part of the original trilogy, yet still seems like something completely fresh. All this footage makes me happy. So many new characters to meet! ›››

Nickelodeon is making a Rocko’s Modern Life TV movie, it has been announced.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the movie will be a one-hour TV special featuring all the main characters from the classic ’90s animated show. Fans may be happy to learn, too, that creator Joe Murray is back in an executive producer role for the film, which is being made at Nickelodeon Animation Studios.
“I’m very happy to be rejoining Rocko and my friends from O-Town again,” Murray said. “What I have found by bringing these characters back is that it’s not so much about nostalgia, but a sense that they still feel relevant and fresh to me, and after 20 years, they can’t wait to comment on modern life in the 21st century. They still have a lot to say.”
Rocko’s Modern Life originally ran for four seasons from 1993 to 1996. The announcement of the TV movie came on August 11, which is the exact 25th anniversary of the Nicktoons brand that debuted in 1991 with Doug, Rougrats, and The Ren & Stimpy Show.
“Greenlighting a Rocko’s Modern Life special is another strong example of how we are bringing our library content back for both new audiences and the generation that grew up on them in the ’90s,” Nickelodeon’s Chris Viscardi said in a statement. “It’s a testament to the strength and appeal of these characters that so many people have loved Nick animation for these last 25 years, and we are excited to bring them back for new stories and adventures.”
There is no word yet on what the TV movie will be called, who will appear in it, or when it will be released. It’s just the latest TV movie based on a classic Nickelodeon show, as Hey Arnold: The Jungle Movie is also on the way.

Destiny‘s limited-time Iron Banner multiplayer event will return next week, Bungie has announced. The event kicks off on August 16, and this time, the gametype is the straightforward shoot-fest Clash. This Iron Banner runs until Tuesday, August 23, ending at around 2 AM PT / 5 AM ET that day.
Saladin is offering up a number of bonuses for Iron Banner players, including armor and weapons, as well as some content exclusive to PlayStation users. The PlayStation-exclusive items can be seen immediately below, while you can click through the gallery to see the rest of the armor and weapon rewards.

The new Iron Banner event is scheduled to begin at around noon PT on August 16, which is roughly two hours later than normal. This is because Destiny is undergoing some maintenance that day, starting at 9 AM PT. It ends “when Bungie says so,” and Iron Banner will kick off right after this.
You may have noticed that the downtime overlaps with Destiny’s upcoming Rise of Iron Crucible livestream. Did Bungie plan this to draw more users to its livestream?
“We did not,” Bungie said. “These are the machinations of progress. Sometimes, everything happens all at once.”
Rise of Iron launches on September 20 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It is Destiny’s fourth expansion, following The Dark Below, House of Wolves, and The Taken King.

With the release of Destiny‘s newest expansion, Rise of Iron, just around the corner, Bungie is preparing to open the floodgates regarding information about its Crucible mode.
The developer this week revealed more details about its previously announced Rise of Iron livestream event for Gamescom. This video event will include “new details about the Crucible,” Bungie said in a blog post. World design lead Steve Cotton and Crucible lead designer Lars Bakken will be on-hand to show off the goods, including new game modes, maps, and features.

“They’ll lay down some additional context while two Fireteams engage each other,” Bungie said.
If you like Destiny but don’t care much for Crucible, you’re getting something new as well next week. Bungie will release the latest “Bungie ViDoc,” this one showing off the “entire Rise of Iron player experience.” This will include a new look at Felwinter Peak and the Plaguelands, featuring developer insight about “every aspect of the journey” that is Rise of Iron.
In addition to new maps for Crucible, Rise of Iron comes with new gear, a new raid, and more quests, among other things. The Gjallarhorn is also coming back.
In another blog post, Bungie confirmed what Sony said earlier this week, that Destiny will be playable at Gamescom. “But we won’t yet say what you’ll be able to play,” the developer teased.
Destiny’s Gamescom livestream takes place on Tuesday, August 16, starting at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. You can watch the briefing at Bungie’s Twitch channel.
Rise of Iron comes out on September 20 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One–but not PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. Destiny 2, or whatever Bungie decides to call it, is also in the works and is coming in 2017. Just recently, some reported Destiny 2 art surfaced online.
