The End Is Nigh! Dungreed! Crystal Crisis!

If you’re not familiar with Nicalis, it’s a game developer and publisher that focuses on smaller projects. Games in its portfolio include Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth, and Redout, among plenty of others. Yesterday, the company announced a trio of its games will be making their way to PS4 next year, and you can see a snippet of each of them in the video above.

The End Is Nigh is a tough 2D platformer from Ed McMillen, the creator of Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac. It’s the end of the world, and you play as a black blob named Ash who’s journeying through the ruins to find a friend.

Wait what.

Wow, this came out of nowhere. Ubisoft has revealed that a new Far Cry game will be announced tomorrow at The Game Awards 2018… And it’s got a post-apocalyptic setting?

No, you read that right — there’s gonna be a new Far Cry game that takes place, going by the teaser trailer, after a nuclear apocalypse. We don’t know how much of it we’ll see at The Game Awards, but this could be pretty cool.

The Christmas period begins.

We’re now heading into the Christmas period proper, and so the Japanese charts are going to make for some pretty predictable reading over the next few weeks. The only PlayStation 4 release that’s really worth mentioning this time around is Battlefield V, which continues on from its strong debut by selling an additional 20,000 units on Sony’s system. It now sits at a respectable 131,000 copies.

Crash Bandicoot! PaRappa the Rapper! Gran Turismo!

At this point in time the PlayStation Classic has become a better punching bag than Glass Joe, so it’s no surprise that forum dwellers are frothing at the mouth over a Tweet which claims the micro-console has dozens of other great games on it. The reality is that there are simply references to them in the source code, meaning they were potentially tested at some point.

Dragons, vampires, assassins, and… Tetris.

November is often the busiest month of any given year when it comes to new game releases, but that hasn’t really been the case in 2018. Don’t get us wrong, there were still some quality titles to chew on last month, but it was mostly October that saw the big games hit. Still, this year overall has been great for PlayStation players, and with our Game of the Year winners being announced later in December, it’s time for the final Game of the Month article for 2018.

A world of pure imagination.

Well, there it is. After being leaked online by a YouTuber, Epic Games has officially unveiled Fortnite Creative, a sandbox mode allowing players to build their own maps and match types. You can get a very brief glimpse at some of the possibilities in the above video.

As expected, you’ll be able to craft unique levels using an endless supply of materials, either alone or with friends. It’s certainly an interesting addition, and we imagine younger players will love messing around with it. If you purchase the Season 7 Battle Pass, you’ll be able to access Creative mode early from 6th December. All players will be able to use the new mode a week later, from 13th December.

It’s happening?

We’ve been half-expecting a remake of Crash Team Racing due to the success of Vicarious Visions’ Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. It’d be very welcome; a return of one of PlayStation’s best kart racers would not only be popular among fans, it’d also fill a gap in the market for a quality arcading racing title on PS4. Well, if this is what Eurogamer says it is, we could very well be getting it.

Hollie of PlayStation Access received this pair of orange, fluffy dice, accompanied by a message: “Sliding into the Game Awards 6/12… – Anonymous”. Eurogamer says it believes it’s a tease for a Crash Team Racing remake, and that it’s legitimate. Now that we think about it, we’re struggling to think of what else orange furry dice could be referring to, and considering Activision sent out purple eggs before the announcement of Spyro: Reignited Trilogy, this all sort of lines up.

In a rather smart (if obvious) move, Sony is discounting PS Now subscriptions in time for the holidays. The 12 month option is being dropped from $99 to $79, the three month option is down from $44.99 to $29.99, and brand new subscribers can grab one month for $9.99. These discounts will be live until the 8th January.

Christmas has come early.

Sony’s adding 50 new games to PlayStation Now for the subscription service’s big December update. As the PlayStation Blog points out, For Honor is a highlight, and it arrives alongside a bunch of other PlayStation 4 titles. It’s worth reiterating that thanks to the addition of game downloads — which were introduced back in September — you can now download most PS4 titles rather than stream them.
