  • The Last of Us 2 Leaks Apparently Released by Hackers, Not Affiliated with Naughty Dog

    Case closed?

Update: According to trusted journalist Jason Schreier, leaked footage of The Last of Us: Part II was apparently obtained by hackers who used a security vulnerability in a patch for an old Naughty Dog game to access the Californian developer’s servers. It’s apparently older videos of a development build.

Schreier continues: “Rumours of this being an act of protest by a contractor whose pay was robbed are not true. Naughty Dog actually extended pay and healthcare benefits for contractors due to COVID-19.”

  • Gallery: Here’s What Our Community Thinks PS5 Will Look Like

    We asked, you delivered.

Last week, we presented our readers with a task. We were curious to know what you lot think the PlayStation 5 will look like, and so we asked you to send us your very own designs. If you had a vision for PS5 — be it serious or silly — we wanted to see it. Fortunately, our community rose to the challenge, sending us all kinds of magnificent PS5 designs. Now, it’s time we showed them off.

Before we do, we’d just like to say thank you to all those who took the time to join in with this daft idea. We know everyone is sick to the back teeth of waiting for Sony to show us the next-gen machine, so we opened up the floor to you guys to express yourselves, and we’re extremely pleased with the results. Let’s have a look, shall we?

  • Huntdown Is the Playable 80s Action Movie You’ve Been Dreaming Of

He’s been a man since he was a boy.

Holy macaroni, this looks good! Huntdown is a 16-bit side-scrolling shooter inspired by 80s action movies of old, and it looks absolutely fantastic. In addition to some stellar cyberpunk-style sprite work, the title also includes heroes such as Anna Conda, John Sawyer, and Mow Man. “His blood type spells AK-47.”

There’s not much to add to this one apart from that we want to play it! A release date is pegged for 12th May on the PlayStation Store, and you can bet your Arnold Schwarzenegger movie collection that we’ll be there day one.

  • Guide: Upcoming PS4 Games for May and June 2020

Wonderful 101! The Last of Us 2! SpongeBob!

What a turbulent time it is — not only for the games industry, but for basically everything. With most people trapped indoors as we deal with the coronavirus outbreak, 2020 is turning out to be one heck of a year so far. Until things improve, we need to find ways to entertain ourselves, and video games are perfect for escaping from real world issues.

While we don’t recommend you spend your entire quarantine playing PlayStation 4 games, we can at least go through some of the titles you might be looking to purchase in order to kill some time. The Last of Us: Part II is easily the biggest game in the next two months with its revised release date of 19th June, but there’s plenty more to look forward to. Let’s have a peek.

  • Evo 2020 Cancelled Due to Coronavirus, Online Event Planned Instead

    Down but not out.

The inevitable has happened: Evo 2020 won’t be going ahead this summer due to the ongoing coronavirus situation. The official Evo Twitter account broke the news, adding that all purchased tickets will be refunded.

Evo is the biggest annual fighting game event in the world, and this’ll be the first time that the gathering has been cancelled in its 24 year history — back before it was even called Evo. However, organisers say that an online event is now planned instead, and that more information will be shared soon. Hopefully it all works out, although we can’t imagine that putting together an online event with the scope of Evo will be easy.

  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Scales Back Naval Combat, Has an Upgradeable Settlement

The centre of quests and decisions.

Outside of fast travel, your ship was the best way of getting about and navigating the map in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. You could always rely on the vessel to get you somewhere quickly out on the open seas, and naturally, the mode of transport returns in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. However, this time around, it doesn’t sound like you’ll be engaging in naval combat. It’s more about getting to and from battles than sinking ships in the moment — exemplified by your settlement situated back in Norway that protagonist Eivor returns to time and time again.

Based on an interview with lead producer Julien Laferrière, Eurogamer comes to the conclusion that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla won’t place an emphasis on naval combat. “There’s no sitting and firing cannons at other boats – Vikings just didn’t do that. Instead, your longships act as your fastest means of travel through the English countryside, along waterways which were the main roads of the era.” Instead, you’ll use longboats to quickly reach and raid English forts before making a speedy getaway.

  • New Battlefield Game Confirmed for PS5, Coming 2021

    May not be cross-gen.

It hardly needs saying, but EA has now confirmed that its DICE studio is working on the next instalment in the Battlefield franchise. The game will release on PlayStation 5 and aims to deploy at some point in 2021, missing the Holiday 2020 launch of the next-gen console. Does this mean that the publisher won’t have anything ready for the PS5 launch? It’s safe to assume it’ll have its usual roster of sports title, but we can now safely that Electronic Arts’ initial line-up won’t include a Battlefield title.

In a statement issued to GameSpot, EA stated that the PS5 title is “targeting new innovation that will be enabled by next-gen platforms”. This does suggest that the release will ditch the PlayStation 4 platform and release exclusively on the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, but that’s speculation on our part.

  • Mini Review: HyperParasite – A Roguelike with a Smart Twist

    Mutant blobs attack.

Tired of indie roguelikes releasing on the PlayStation 4? That was this author’s initial reaction when he recklessly volunteered to review Troglobytes’ love letter to The Thing. Fortunately, there’s more to HyperParasite than repetition and 80s references, as this is a rather creative twin-stick shooter-style take on a format that’s been driven into the dirt recently.

You control a fragile gelatinous blob which is capable of possessing the many characters it encounters. Once you inherit a human form, you’ll gain access to their abilities, whether it’s a policeman, soldier, or something altogether more imaginative: paperboys toss broadsheets, basketball players lob balls, and… Well, we’ll let you discover the rest for yourself.

  • The Last of Us 2 Will Gobble Up At Least 100GB of PS4 Hard Drive Space

    Save space.

We already know that The Last of Us: Part II will ship on two Blu-ray discs, so this isn’t the most surprising tidbit in the universe, but a PlayStation pre-order page has revealed that the upcoming exclusive will gobble up at least 100GB of hard drive space. That doesn’t make it quite as big as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but hey, it’s half-way there.

  • Rumour: Assassin’s Creed PS5 Reveal Coming Later Today

    Take us to Valhalla.

Oh boy, it looks like the wheels are really starting to turn. Known insider Shinobi602, who very recently teased that the next instalment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise would be revealed in the near future, has just indicated that the announcement in question is coming today. That’s 29th April 2020 when time zones across the world are taken into account. Could we be about to get our next taste of a PlayStation 5 game? It appears so.

Taking to popular video game forum Resetera, Shinobi602 responded to a post asking him if he knew of any major news planned to break tomorrow (for the US time zone), including tidbits such as the Xbox Series X, Assassin’s Creed, and the PS5. The man in question simply responded with “Yes”. Now, we understand we’re on shaky ground here, but when this comment is taken alongside rumours that an Italian website is currently teasing a new game announcement for today, we start to get a clearer picture.
