  • DOOM Eternal Provides Brief Glimpse at Upcoming DLC

    More to rip and tear.

DOOM Eternal is the best FPS on PlayStation 4, and the experience is only going to get better with two batches of downloadable content planned for the near future. It may not feature Mick Gordon on the audio side of things, but developer id Software has released two new screenshots which provides a very brief glimpse of the first DLC pack.

Shared in a tweet, you can get a good look at the otherworldly planets DOOM Eternal will be taking us to next. You also have to imagine that they’ll play host to even more ripping and tearing. Expect new enemies, boss fights, and suit upgrades to go alongside that.

  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Creative Director Promises ‘In-Depth Gameplay’ After Lacklustre Reveal

    It’s coming, eventually.

In the short time since Microsoft’s Inside Xbox third-party digital event, both the team in green and Ubisoft have been heavily criticized for their use of the word “gameplay”. The Xbox Series X manufacturer promised that it would debut footage of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and while it technically did, what we got didn’t live up to even our tempered expectations. The 71-second trailer featured vague shots of the game and cutscenes that most likely don’t represent the final product.

It was a major disappointment, but at least the cross-gen title’s creative director has quickly sought to temper the flames. Ashraf Ismail took to Twitter to promise that “in-depth gameplay” and lots more information is coming.

  • LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Seemingly Launches This October

    YouTube channel reveals.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga received a welcome info dump this past Monday to celebrate Star Wars Day with new key art and screenshots. That was all well and good, but fans were still left wondering when they’d be able to play the game for themselves. Well, it appears they no longer need to ponder that question. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga launches for PlayStation 4 on 20th October 2020 according to a video uploaded to the official Star Wars YouTube channel earlier today.

In it, presenter Kristin Baver says: “Releasing on October 20th, play out your favourite moments brick by brick.” Now, developer Traveller’s Tales hasn’t backed this up by also revealing the release date in a public manner. However, since this comes from an official Star Wars source, we think we’re pretty safe in saying that this is the actual launch date. We’ve reached out to the studio for comment.

  • Mass Effect Trilogy HD Remaster Is Finally Happening, Apparently

    Shepard!

Last night we covered EA’s financial report for 2020, pointing out that it has a number of unannounced games currently in development — all of them set to release by April 2021. Alongside four “EA Partner” titles, there was also mention of an “EA HD” title. In other words, a remake or remaster.

Given that fans have been waiting almost an entire console generation for a remastered Mass Effect Trilogy, we wrote about how this report offers some hope. But as it happens, we might not even need hope — a re-release of the Mass Effect Trilogy is apparently heading our way.

  • Dying Light 2 Dev Dismisses Rumours of Buyout, Workplace Problems

    Inaccurate translations.

We initially chose not to report on it due to some dodgy translations, but earlier today you may have picked up on some speculation that developer Techland has been having development issues with Dying Light 2. The game was delayed indefinitely earlier this year, and Polish website PolskiGameDev appeared to have the scoop on why. It talked of communication issues with narrative designer Chris Avellone, a lack of clear direction, and the uncertainty over whether or not the team had been bought by Microsoft. However, none of this actually appears to be the case. Techland PR has been quick to stamp out the unsubstantiated chatter by taking to Twitter.

Ola Sondej, senior PR manager at Techland, tweeted that the studio remains an independent developer and has not been bought by another company. Dying Light 2 also continues to be scheduled for launch on PlayStation 4.

  • Final Fantasy VII Remake Has Over 2000 Anime-Style Grunts and Sighs in Its Main Story

    Uh? Huh.

Characters love to grunt and sigh in Final Fantasy VII Remake. They do it all the bloody time. If someone moves more than a centimetre, they need to make a noise, and once you hear it, you can never unhear it.

If you’re familiar with anime or other Japanese media, then you’ll already be aware of these sounds. In animation, they’re often employed so that characters can react to things even if no dialogue is taking place — and it’s a trope that’s carried over into video games.

  • Unannounced EA Titles Give Mass Effect Fans Renewed Hope for Trilogy Remaster

    Just do it.

It’s the middle of 2020 and EA still hasn’t given us a remastered Mass Effect Trilogy. How have we gone almost a whole console generation without seeing Shepard and the gang on PlayStation 4? It boggles the mind.

But that’ll do for our scheduled rant about remastering Mass Effect. We’re here to talk about a number of currently unannounced titles that EA has lined up for this fiscal year (releasing by April 2021, in other words). This story is essentially a follow-up to EA’s previously reported earnings call back in January, in which it stated that four “major” unannounced projects were set to launch through March 2021.

  • Prince of Persia 6 Website Domain Registered by Ubisoft

    Leap of faith.

Ubisoft has been busy with websites recently. Last week, it registered the domain for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla just hours before the game was officially revealed, and now, it’s registered princeofpersia6.com. Is the publisher finally bringing the action platforming franchise back from the dead?

While not concrete proof that we’re getting Prince of Persia 6, it’s still a very specific domain, so there’s a chance that it does actually mean something. And with so many next-gen events coming soon — Microsoft’s Xbox Series X showcase is later this week, while Sony’s PS5 reveal seems set for late May or early June — it’s possible that Ubisoft may be gearing up for an announcement.

  • Rumour: PlayStation Now Adds Rainbow Six: Siege, The Evil Within 2 with May 2020 Update

    And there’s Get Even.

Sony has been doing very well as of late when it comes to PlayStation 4 additions to the PlayStation Now service. With Marvel’s Spider-Man, Control, and a number of other high-profile titles already on offer, there’s a long list of titles you could be playing right now. This month’s line-up can’t quite compare to those games, but there’s still a few worth checking out.

These additions haven’t been announced by Sony just yet. However, since they’re already live and playable via the PS Now service, we can be very safe in saying that these are the games the Japanese giant had planned. The May 2020 line-up includes Rainbow Six: Siege, The Evil Within 2, and Get Even.

  • PS Plus Members Launch Petition Against ‘Dumbfounding’ May 2020 PS4 Games

And almost 7,000 have signed it.

PlayStation Plus subscribers have not reacted kindly to May 2020’s free PlayStation 4 games, with a whopping 78 per cent of the Push Square community showing their dissatisfaction with the selection. Of course, with any kind of backlash comes an online petition, and almost 7,000 people have signed their name against a Change.org plea to have the lineup altered.

The request, aimed directly at PlayStation boss Jim Ryan, describes the lineup as “dumbfounding” – although the facetious nature of the appeal makes us think it was penned in jest. “Please join us and make the change,” reads the summary. “Do it for the NHS, do it for all those suffering in isolation. Do it for the gamers!”
