    Get ready!

Now that Phantasy Star is finally available in the west, Sega has decided to clarify when exactly fans in North America and Europe will be able to get their hands on the next Sega AGES title, Out Run. If you can’t wait until January, you can always go and purchase the game from the Japanese eShop right now for 999 yen, as the menus and settings are all in English.

  • Reggie: Third-Party Gaps In Switch Game Library Linked To Timing Of System Reveal

“Games are in development for multiple years”.

The Switch might be a relatively new system, but once again, it’s Nintendo hardware that has seemingly been shunned by a sizable portion of the video game industry, resulting in a number of developers and publishers not even acknowledging the hybrid platform.

Following the conclusion of the 2018 Game Awards, IGN caught up with Nintendo of America’s President Reggie Fils-Aimé to ask why exactly there are so many gaps in the Switch’s third-party line-up. According to the man himself, it’s all down to timing and the fact people seem to forget the Switch isn’t even two years old yet. Most of these gaps are because development on certain titles was already well underway before the Switch was even released:

  • Nintendo Takes Legal Action Against California Man For Selling Hacked Systems

    Laying down the law.

In recent months, Nintendo has taken a strong stance against video game piracy worldwide. In an effort to continue the good fight, Nintendo is now taking legal action against a man located in Orange County, California who has allegedly been selling hacked consoles, pirated versions of the company’s games and tools to help users modify their own systems – violating the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Mikel Euskaldunak has reportedly been selling modified services for the Switch, allowing users to play unauthorised games. He’s also been selling hacked NES Classic Mini preloaded with 800 pirated titles and selling them above the retail price.

Highest opening week ever for a Smash game.

Following the sales data estimates for the Japanese release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Famitsu has now published official sales numbers confirming the game sold exactly 1,238,358 million copies in its launch week. This figure reportedly does not include digital sales.

It’s also the best debut for the Smash series in Japan and the highest opening week for a Switch game. Ultimate also improved Nintendo’s hybrid console sales last week. Famitsu said the system shifted 278,313 units compared to the previous week when it sold 107,450 units. This has helped domestic Switch sales surpass the six million mark.

  • Video: SNES Classic Runs PSone Games Better Than The PlayStation Classic

    Classic Sony.

If you keep tabs on the competition, you will have no doubt have heard about the PlayStation Classic. Following Nintendo’s success with NES and SNES Classic systems, Sony decided to release a miniature version of its own legacy hardware.

Unfortunately, this particular system hasn’t lived up to expectations, with an underwhelming library of games due to licensing issues and some odd design choices. If that wasn’t enough, tech experts have found a lot of the games are the slower PAL versions and a list of far more exciting games that aren’t actually on the system have even been referenced in the source code. It’s safe to say, the system’s release has done more harm than good at this point.
