First Look: Kenneth Lonergan's New Film 'Manchester-by-the Sea'

    Manchester-by-the Sea

Gather round for your first look at a new film starring Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams. Out of Cannes, THR has posted the first three photos from Manchester-by-the Sea, the latest feature written & directed by Kenneth Lonergan about a man who returns to his small Massachusetts hometown to deal with both his estranged wife and the consequences of his brother’s death. Casey Affleck plays the lead, while Michelle Williams plays his estranged wife, and the cast includes Kyle Chandler (seen in one of the photos). This is a very early tease as they’re still shooting and looking to drum up sales buzz. We’ll keep an eye out for it. ›››

  • Actor Jay Baruchel Will Direct 'Goon' Sequel 'Last of the Enforcers'

Actor Jay Baruchel Will Direct 'Goon' Sequel 'Last of the Enforcers'

    Goon Sequel

Now this is good news. THR is reporting that the sequel to Goon, the awesome cult hockey movie starring Seann William Scott, will be directed by actor Jay Baruchel, making his directorial debut with this film. Baruchel is a major proponent behind the entire film, as he’s co-writing the screenplay with Jesse Chabot, and also starring again as Seann William Scott’s character’s friend Pat. Of course they’ve got Seann William Scott back as violent hockey player Doug “The Thug” Glatt and they’re already gearing up to start filming in June in Toronto. I’ve got a good feeling about this, it all sounds quite promising, especially with Baruchel. It was also revealed the title of this follow-up is Goon: Last of the Enforcers. Bring on the hockey fights. ›››

  • First Look: Michel Gondry's Road Movie About 'Microbe & Gasoil'

First Look: Michel Gondry's Road Movie About 'Microbe & Gasoil'

    Microbe & Gasoil

This sounds like it’s going to be so much fun. The first photo from the new Michel Gondry film has hit the web. Gondry moves quickly and quietly when working in France, we didn’t even know this was shot yet. Microbe et Gasoil, as it’s titled (or Microbe and Gasoil), is already filmed and stars Ange Dargent and Théophile Baquet as the two boys, along with Audrey Tautou. This first photo won’t make sense until you hear the plot, then you’ll have a big smile on your face when you realize. “As the summer holidays approach, the two friends don’t want to spend two months in the company of their families, so they build their own ‘car‘ out of a motor mower and some planks of wood, and set off on an adventure on the roads of France.” ›››

A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence

“It’s heaven!” Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Darren Aronofsky both present (for US release) the latest film from Swedish filmmaker Roy Andersson, titled A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence. This not only wins the award for best film title of the year, but it’s also one of the most original and visionary creations I’ve seen, unlike any other cinematic work out there. The film premiered at Venice & TIFF last year (where I saw it) and earned mostly positive reviews, so fans of Andersson have nothing to be worried about. A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence is a movie about “being a human being”, exploring abstract ideas and concepts connected to existence. It’s an absurdly masterful head trip worth experiencing. ›››

Review: George Miller's 'Mad Max: Fury Road' is the New Metal

    Mad Max: Fury Road

What a lovely day, indeed. It’s been 30 years since we ventured out into the Wasteland with “Mad” Max Rockatansky, 34 if you’re not counting the time he went Beyond Thunderdome. Who could blame you? With 30 years worth of hope and nearly 20 years of promise from series creator George Miller, a new adventure in Mad Max’s dusty, brutal world had better deliver the goods. That adventure is now here for our sensory feasting. Mad Max: Fury Road delivers on your every, post-apocalyptic wish and with an endless supply of visual insanity. What more could you possibly hope for in Miller’s vision for the world after the fall? ›››

Watch: InGen Explains Why 'Jurassic World' is a Totally Safe Place

    InGen

Don’t worry, the dinosaurs won’t eat you. This new park is totally safe! Trust us, we’re InGen. Come see the deadly dinosaurs, you’ll be fine. Ha. Universal has debuted a fantastic new video on YouTube that plays as a viral video from InGen Technologies, the company responsible for creating the Jurassic Park and all the dinosaurs within in. In the video, you’ll see actor BD Wong as Dr. Henry Wu explaining the technology and processes behind their operation. It’s almost like a job video, come work for us! Look what we do! Though of course we all know that it’s going to get crazy in Jurassic World and something is going to go wrong. “That’s what being today, tomorrow is.” This reminds me a bit of the Weyland TED Talk, which is one of my faves. ›››

    American Heist Trailer

“We’re here to rob the bank… Don’t be a hero!” Lionsgate has debuted an official US trailer for American Heist, an action-thriller-drama from Armenian filmmaker Sarik Andreasyan starring Adrien Brody and Hayden Christensen as brothers with troubled pasts who get dragged into another bank robbery. It’s yet another bank robbers need to leave their past but get caught up in one more job kind of movie, complete with the face mask heist and everything. Jordana Brewster, Tory Kittles and Akon also star in the film. It honestly doesn’t look that great, yet another bland version of this same old story, but you never know. ›››

See the Art from Raid71's 'Illuminate' Solo Show at Bottleneck NYC

    Illuminate

I love this guy’s art so much I’m proud to say I have one of his pieces on my wall. There’s a new show from artist “Raid71” opening at the fantastic Bottleneck Gallery in Brooklyn, NY this weekend. The show is called “Illuminate” and focuses on his unique style with vivid colors. His pieces are inspired heavily by Blade Runner, but he also has work from Tron, Taxi Driver, Midnight Cowboy, Dark City, Akira, Mean Streets, The Fisher King and more. He does some excellent work, and it really stands out on a wall, it’s the kind that you want to buy and hang everywhere. Luckily we’ve got an early look at some art from the show. ›››
