It's Here – Official Poster for 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Revealed

    Star Wars: The Force Awakens

There has been an awakening… Disney/Lucasfilm have revealed the first official poster for J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a continuation of the sci-fi saga that George Lucas started in 1977. This poster is very reminiscent of all the other official artwork for the two original trilogies, and isn’t designed by Drew Struzan, however I hope we’ll see more Struzan work soon. In the meantime, this is spectacular poster that captures both the dark side and the light side. John Boyega stars as Finn, along with Daisy Ridley as Rey, and Adam Driver as Kylo Ren – these three are featured prominently. Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher also show up, along with Chewie, Poe Dameron & Captain Phasma. Catch the new trailer tomorrow. ›››

  • Review: Guillermo del Toro's 'Crimson Peak' a Visual Feast, Little Else

Review: Guillermo del Toro's 'Crimson Peak' a Visual Feast, Little Else

    Crimson Peak Review

There’s very little question about Guillermo del Toro’s prowess as a visionary storyteller. Whether about a demonic superhero and the strange creatures he fights or a gothic love story with supernatural tones, the director’s films are wall-to-wall detail. The images he creates are gorgeous, his films the kind where every shot is an immaculate glimpse into del Toro’s artistic and unique eye. This is the case, as well, with the filmmaker’s latest menagerie of macabre madness and supernatural scares. Crimson Peak brings with it the same, visual detail for which the director has become known. The story plays out in basic, predictable form, but it’s never enough to hold back the visual masterpiece del Toro once again delivers. ›››

Watch: 'Bleeding Heart' Trailer Starring Jessica Biel & Zosia Mamet

    Bleeding Heart Trailer

“If you don’t want to go back – don’t.” Gravitas Ventures has debuted a trailer for Diane Bell’s new film Bleeding Heart, starring Jessica Biel and Zosia Mamet as estranged sisters. The film is about a yoga instructor, played by Jessica Biel, whose sister suddenly comes into her life. But it turns out her deadbeat boyfriend is kind of crazy, and then it turns into an intense chase thriller, or something like that. The full cast includes Joe Anderson, Edi Gathegi, Kate Burton and Exie Booker. This honestly looks pretty bad, and I’m only posting this just because it’s getting a theatrical release anyway. If you’re interested, take a look. ›››

Editorial: Why Guillermo del Toro's Films Are Never What They Seem

    Guillermo del Toro

After years of off-screen hell, the newest movie directed by Guillermo del Toro, titled Crimson Peak, comes out nationwide today to unleash a kind of cinematic hell upon viewers everywhere. However, much like every one of del Toro’s films, even though Crimson Peak is being sold as a horror movie (it’s not) it’s actually far more tragic than terrifying. As del Toro has tried to bring to people’s attention on Twitter and other forms of social media, Crimson Peak is much more of a gothic romance than a straight-up horror film. Unfortunately, most people will go into the film this weekend expecting to be scared out of their minds and instead they will find something much more tragic and somber. With that let’s take a look at why Guillermo del Toro’s movies are never what they seem – and why Crimson Peak is no different. ›››

New Trailer for Tom Hooper's 'The Danish Girl' with Eddie Redmayne

    The Danish Girl Review

“We trusted you. We came to you for help.” Focus Features has debuted another magnificent trailer for Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl, starring Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander. This looks like it’s going to get quite a bit of awards acclaim, at least for these two performances my goodness do they look dazzling. Redmayne, who just won an Academy Award this year for The Theory of Everything, plays Einar Wegener who becomes Lili Elbe, and his love is Gerda, played by Alicia Vikander. The full cast includes Amber Heard, Matthias Schoenaerts, Ben Whishaw, and Sebastian Koch. If you’re looking to complete your Oscar playing cards this year, this is a good one to keep in your deck. I’m looking forward to seeing it. ›››

Watch: Video Game 8-Bit Cinema Version of 'Mad Max: Fury Road'

    Mad Max 8-Bit Cinema

Your mission: Outrun the War Party! The 8-bit Cinema guys have decided to take on Mad Max: Fury Road next, turning one of this year’s best movies into an NES-style video game. Or maybe SNES, because it goes up to 16-bit at times. But it’s still awesome. We’ve featured many of these 8-bit cinema videos in the past, and they’re just so much fun to watch, because it makes me really wish I still had my old NES still and this game was real. I would be playing it right now. The Doof Warrior gets his ass kicked pretty quickly with one bop on the head, but other than that, this is a full-on video game version of the plot in the movie. Enjoy! ›››

  • London Film Festival Review: Jonás Cuarón's Relentless 'Desierto'

London Film Festival Review: Jonás Cuarón's Relentless 'Desierto'

    Desierto

Jonás Cuarón’s Desierto opens with a small group of people all hidden away in the back of a truck, crossing an expanse of Mexican desert on their way to try and cross the border into the United States. Their truck breaks down. They’re told to get out and walk. We know immediately that route is not safe – far from it. And that’s it: we are invested in their journey – even before the murderous Sam shows up and throws the tension levels into health-warning territory. Our hero, Moises (get the not-so-subtle Biblical reference there?), played by Gael García Bernal, works beautifully opposite villain Sam, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. ›››

  • Trailer for Eran Creevy's Action Thriller 'Collide' with Nicholas Hoult

Trailer for Eran Creevy's Action Thriller 'Collide' with Nicholas Hoult

    Collide Trailer

“If you don’t give us the information we need, I’m sure she will…” Wow. This is quite an epic trailer for what may turn out to be a simple action movie, but damn. That music! Collide is an action-thriller from director Eran Creevy about an American backpacker, played by Nicholas Hoult, who gets involved with a ring of drug smugglers as their driver. The film’s title in this trailer is Autobahn, which is the international title for this, and also the setting of the final action scene where he encounters his employers on Munich’s highways with no speed limit. The very eclectic cast includes a blonde Felicity Jones, Nadia Hilker, plus surprisingly somehow Anthony Hopkins and Ben Kingsley as villains. You don’t want to miss this tease. ›››
