Tom Tykwer's 'A Hologram for the King' Set for April 2016 Opening

    A Hologram for the King

We’ve been waiting to see something for this one! Roadside Attractions is releasing Tom Tykwer’s new film A Hologram for the King and has set an April release date. But we still have yet to see a trailer or much else. The film has been scheduled for release on April 22nd, and along with that news a batch of first look photos (and a new German poster for now) have been unveiled. A Hologram for the King stars Tom Hanks as a failed American businessman who flies to Saudi Arabia to try and sell his idea to a wealthy monarch, based on the book by Dave Eggers. Sounds good. We’ll be keeping an eye on this one leading up to release. ›››

Watch: First Teaser Trailer for Drake Doremus' Sci-Fi Indie 'Equals'

    Equals Trailer

“Will you risk everything to feel something?” A24 has unveiled a teaser trailer for the new sci-fi romantic drama from Drake Doremus called Equals, which played at the TIFF and Venice Film Festivals last year. The film is set in a futuristic society where crime and violence have been eradicated through the genetic elimination of human emotion, and where those afflicted with the emotional “disease” are forced to go on the run. Sounds a bit like Logan’s Run or any futuristic story like this, but with a much stronger romantic angle. Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult star, with Guy Pearce, Bel Powley, Kate Lyn Sheil and Jacki Weaver. This footage looks good, but it also really makes me want to watch Her again. Take a look. ›››

Watch: Full Trailer for Sci-Fi Thriller 'Identicals' from Simon Pummell

    Identicals Trailer

“There’s a better life waiting for us.” Samuel Goldwyn Films has released an official trailer for the sci-fi psychological thriller called Identicals, from director Simon Pummell, and it looks pretty damn cool. At least, it has some amazingly cool visuals that I really dig. Is it actually a good film? Well, I don’t really know, I’m not so sure. Starring Lachlan Nieboer, Nora-Jane Noone, Nick Blood, Tony Way, and Jacinta Mulcahy. The film, originally called Brand New-U, is about a futuristic company called Brand New-U that allows people to create a brand new life using other people known as “Identicals” as some kind of surrogate. Obviously, not everything is going to go as planned. Watch the new trailer below and tell us what you think. ›››

Watch: New Official US Trailer for 'The Program' Starring Ben Foster

    The Program Official US Trailer

“When you say, ‘I can’t go any further’, say to yourself: ‘I’m flying!’” eOne Films has debuted the official US trailer for The Program, the film by Stephen Frears telling the story of Lance Armstrong, played by Ben Foster. The film covers his entire career, including early introduction to the Tour, his era of doping, attempts to lie and cover it up for years, and eventual fall out. Chris O’Dowd plays journalist David Walsh, who was constantly after Armstrong for years because he knew something was up. The full cast includes Jesse Plemons, Lee Pace, Guillaume Canet and many others. I still want to see this, it looks like a deep investigation into one of the craziest cover-up stories in sports history. Compare to these first two trailers. ›››

  • Anna Kendrick & Sam Rockwell Together in First Trailer for 'Mr. Right'

Anna Kendrick & Sam Rockwell Together in First Trailer for 'Mr. Right'

    Mr. Right Trailer

“I’m on a date, and I like this girl. Can’t we do this tomorrow?” Focus World has debuted a trailer for the new romantic comedy Mr. Right, about a lovable goofy girl who ends up with a guy that seems perfect until she discovers he’s a hitman gone rogue. We all know how this is going to turn out, right? Of course after some bumps in the road and scary moments, she’s going to live happily ever after with him, there’s no doubt about it. That’s always how these films end. Anna Kendrick stars along with Sam Rockwell, and a fun cast including Tim Roth, Anson Mount, James Ransone, Michael Eklund, Katie Nehra and RZA. Despite my love for these two lead actors, this movie looks as formulaic and bland as can possibly be. Enjoy. ›››

  • Frank Grillo is Back First Trailer for Sequel 'The Purge: Election Year'

Frank Grillo is Back First Trailer for Sequel 'The Purge: Election Year'

    The Purge: Election Year Trailer

“This is not a drill.” Universal has debuted the first official trailer for horror sequel The Purge: Election Year, which is essentially The Purge 3 following The Purge: Anarchy in 2014. The plot this time involves Frank Grillo returning as the head of security protecting Senator Charlie Roan, played by Elizabeth Mitchell, who encounters more than he bargained for when the annual purge event brings out the crazies. The “Election Year” angle is quite bold. The full cast from this one includes Raymond J. Barry, Ethan Phillips, Sparrowhawk, Edwin Hodge and many others. This latest Purge entry looks about as dark and violent and crazy as the last two, so if you’ve enjoyed the others this will be more of the same. Have at it. ›››

Watch: Powerful Crime Drama Short 'Los Angeles 1991' by Zac&Mac

    Los Angeles 1991 Short Film

“On the day they were going to kill him, Jun Seo did not arrive at his liquor store until 5PM.” It’s always hard to introduce short films without giving away too much about them. I prefer to say the least possible before simply encouraging watching the short in full. This one is titled Los Angeles 1991 and is set in Los Angeles in 1991 and is a real-life story about a shooting at a local liquor store. It’s a very powerful drama that makes you think about how different lives intersect and interact in a tragedy like this. The short is made by “Zac&Mac”, directed by a filmmaker known as “Macgregor”, also known in real life as Miguel de Olaso. He’s definitely proving that he can handle real-life drama and emotions with this short. Watch below in full. ›››

  • Spielberg's 'Ready Player One' Adaptation Release Pushed to 2018

Spielberg's 'Ready Player One' Adaptation Release Pushed to 2018

    Ready Player One

Briefly: This is exactly what we expected, and it’s good to see Warner Bros making a smart move. WB has shifted and pushed back the release date of Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One adaptation from its original slot in December 2017 to spring of 2018 – specifically March 30th, 2018. This is mainly because Disney recently changed the release of Star Wars: Episode VIII (being directed by Rian Johnson) back to December 15th, 2017 (from May) – which was the exact same day that Ready Player One was originally set for release. It’s always hard to tell whether Spielberg will make his release anyway, but this is just a big sigh of relief because there would be no point in seeing WB and Disney go head-to-head with these two massive sci-fi / fan-oriented projects. I’m excited to see both Star Wars and Ready Player One – three months apart.
