Watch: Full Trailer for Spielberg's 'The BFG' Starring Ruby Barnhill

    The BFG Trailer

“I’s hearing all the secret whisperings of the world…” Disney has unveiled a full-length trailer for Steven Spielberg’s latest adventure, The BFG, an adaptation of the Roald Dahl book of the same name about “Big Friendly Giants”. Ruby Barnhill stars as Sophie, a young girl who encounters the Big Friendly Giant and befriends him because he’s different than the other giants (he doesn’t eat boys and girls). The cast includes Mark Rylance as The BFG, plus Rebecca Hall, Bill Hader, Jemaine Clement, Penelope Wilton and Ólafur Ólafsson. This new trailer following that brief teaser looks quite spectacular, as expected from Spielberg, but it still has that half-CG feeling to it. I’m still curious to see this – can’t resist Spielberg. Enjoy! ›››

  • Anthony Hopkins, Julia Stiles & Ray Liotta in Trailer for 'Blackway'

Anthony Hopkins, Julia Stiles & Ray Liotta in Trailer for 'Blackway'

    Blackway Trailer

“You don’t have to go with us. Once you do, there’s no turning back…” Enderby Entertainment & Gotham Group have debuted the trailer for a thriller called Blackway, about a grotesquely crooked cop played by Ray Liotta – perfect casting for this role, that’s for sure. He steps over the line one last time, assaulting a woman who then takes a small crew to confront him head on. Anthony Hopkins and Julia Stiles co-star, with a cast including Alexander Ludwig, Lochlyn Munro and Hal Holbrook. This is one of those films where you can’t believe it has this cast, with that many reputable names, yet looks so awful. Even the score is terribly cheesy. No really, this just looks straight-to-cable awful. I am sorry this isn’t any better than it is. ›››

  • Mel Gibson & Erin Moriarty in Action Thriller 'Blood Father' Trailer

    Blood Father Trailer

“For those who don’t know me, my name is John. And I’m a real success story…” Icon Films Australia has debuted the first official trailer for Blood Father, a film by Jean-François Richet (Assault on Precinct 13 remake, Mesrine Part 1 & Mesrine Part 2: Public Enemy #1), starring Mel Gibson as an ex-con badass who gets into some gritty action trying to save his daughter, played by Erin Moriarty. This kind of has the toss-up mix of being part Taken, part John Wick in a way, plus all Mel Gibson, reset in the deep South with a No Country tinge – and it actually looks pretty damn good. The cast says it includes William H. Macy, Thomas Mann, Elisabeth Röhm, Diego Luna & Dale Dickey. This is definitely worth taking a look at. ›››

  • Must Watch: Paul Dano & Daniel Radcliffe in 'Swiss Army Man' Trailer

Must Watch: Paul Dano & Daniel Radcliffe in 'Swiss Army Man' Trailer

    Swiss Army Man Trailer

“So this is the life I’ve forgotten…” A24 has unleashed the first amazingly awesome new trailer for Swiss Army Man, the controversial and wacky film from Sundance this year that prompted a few walk outs – but mostly lots of acclaim from audiences and critics. Yes, this is the film starring Daniel Radcliffe as a farting corpse, but it’s so much more than that. Paul Dano stars as a man stuck on a deserted island until this corpse suddenly shows up, helping him come back to life again. This trailer is kind of a teaser but it does capture the whimsy and magic of the film, since it’s more of a zany comedy than it is depressing. Have at it. ›››

Official Trailer for Animal Rights Documentary 'Unlocking the Cage'

    Unlocking the Cage Doc Trailer

“All we can do is kick the first door open.” Kick it in and make some noise! First Run Features has debuted an official trailer for a documentary called Unlocking the Cage, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this January and profiles animal rights lawyer Steven Wise and his attempt to make sure all animals are recognized with rights just like humans. Co-directed by Chris Hegedus & D.A. Pennebaker, the film follows Wise around between 2013 and 2015 as he attempts to find any and all “non-human” clients for his campaign to help them establish legal person-hood. This actually looks like a very intriguing and timely film that captures a key moment in history, somewhat like Blackfish and other recent animal activism docs. ›››

  • 'They're Coming Back' in New 'Independence Day: Resurgence' TV Spot

'They're Coming Back' in New 'Independence Day: Resurgence' TV Spot

Independence Day: Resurgence - They're Coming Back

“She has arrived.” Fox has unveiled a new 30-second TV spot for Independence Day: Resurgence that features a bit more of Brent Spiner as Dr. Brakish Okun, and has a fun moment with Bill Pullman as President Whitmore getting his own time with one of the aliens. The full cast includes Jeff Goldblum back as David Levinson, Jessie Usher as Dylan Hiller, Liam Hemsworth, William Fichtner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Vivica A. Fox and Sela Ward. While there isn’t much more revealed in this spot, I am still kind of excited to see this. I know it doesn’t look as good as the original, of course, but it still looks like it might be entertaining. I love sci-fi epics. I want to see what kind of firepower they have this time, and so on. ›››

Mads Mikkelsen in Black Comedy 'Men & Chicken' Official US Trailer

    Men & Chicken Trailer

“This is the story of some brothers whom Nature hadn’t dealt the best of cards.” Drafthouse Films has unveiled the official US trailer for Danish director Anders Thomas Jensen’s wacky black comedy Men & Chicken. Described as an “outlandish hybrid of The Three Stooges and The Island of Dr. Moreau“, the film stars Mads Mikkelsen (with a nice mustache), David Dencik, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Søren Malling and Nicolas Bro. It’s about two outcast brothers who get together after their father dies and end up at an island called Ork, where they discover a horrible truth about themselves and their relatives. Pretty sure this won’t be for everyone, but if you’re into darkly hilarious slapstick comedy from Denmark, you better take a look. ›››

    Live-Action Trailer for Doom

Fight like hell. This isn’t so much a live-action trailer as it is an impressive VFX cinematic trailer, but it’s worth featuring anyway. This new trailer is for the latest version of the popular Doom video game and it’s made by director Joe Kosinski (aka Joseph Kosinski), the same filmmaker that directed Tron Legacy and Oblivion. Kosinski has been working on a number of projects recently including the next Tron sequel, a Black Hole remake, a Gran Turismo movie, and Twilight Zone, but in the meantime he has partnered with Bethesda Softworks to work on this marketing for the video game. Fire it up below and enjoy some action. ›››

  • Here's the Three Different Posters for the 2016 Cannes Film Festival

Here's the Three Different Posters for the 2016 Cannes Film Festival

    Cannes Film Festival 2016

Now that spring has arrived, we’re just a few months away from the annual Cannes Film Festival taking place in the South of France. For the 69th edition of the film festival, Cannes has chosen imagery from Jean-Luc Godard’s film Contempt (1963) to be featured on the poster this year. I really like this poster because it’s not just an actor/actress this time, it’s an actual set piece from a film. “It’s all there. The steps, the sea, the horizon: a man’s ascent towards his dream, in a warm Mediterranean light that turns to gold. As an image it is reminiscent of a timeless quote used at the beginning of Contempt: ‘Cinema replaces our gaze with a world in harmony with our desires‘.” Well that just makes me want to be there already. ›››
