  • How the Devil May Cry/Castlevania TV Series Multiverse Could Work

Today brought some unexpected but very welcome news for fans of Netflix’s Castlevania animated series. As showrunner Adi Shankar revealed exclusively to IGN’s Jacki Jing, work has begun on a Devil May Cry animated series that will exist as part of a shared multiverse with Castlevania. Suddenly, two of the biggest franchises in the gaming world have become intertwined.

While at first glance these might seem like very random pairings of AAA franchises, there’s actually a lot of potential in linking Castlevania and Devil May Cry. Here’s how we think these two shows will connect with each other and begin to forge a larger animated multiverse.

  • Devil May Cry Series Joins Castlevania in New Multi-Verse from Adi Shankar

IGN can confirm that an animated-series adaptation of Capcom’s popular video game franchise, Devil May Cry, is in the works. The series will be developed by Castlevania executive producer Adi Shankar.

Shankar, in an exclusive interview with IGN’s Jacki Jing, also revealed that his Devil May Cry series “will join Castlevania in what we’re now calling the bootleg multiverse.”

While Shankar didn’t give us any specifics in terms of what this all means for the series’ overall story, he did inform us that he “acquired these (Devil May Cry) rights myself so the jabronis in Hollywood don’t f*** this one up too.” Shankar’s financial investment should allow him more creative freedom, as he begins to build this wildly ambitious multiverse of his.

  • Rumor: Microsoft’s Considering Building a Disc-Less Xbox One for Release in 2019

A recent rumor suggests that Microsoft is considering a new Xbox One SKU that removes the disc drive as a cost-reducing measure.

As reported by Thurrott, this console would very much be part of the Xbox One family of devices and not the next-generation group of hardware that could compose Scarlett. This rumored Xbox One is expected to be released sometime in 2019, possibly as early as spring, and sell for $200 or less. The rumor also maintains that any Scarlet consoles would end up coming later, sometime in 2020.

  • Sunset Overdrive Officially Coming to PC

The rumors, leaks, and ratings board updates were all true: Sunset Overdrive is officially coming to PC tomorrow.

Insomniac Games made the announcement on Twitter today, releasing a trailer confirming the previously Xbox One-exclusive Sunset Overdrive is heading to Windows 10.

It’s been a long road for Insomniac to get to this point, with Sunset Overdrive originally releasing in 2014 as one of the Xbox One’s tentpole exclusives. But talk of a PC port started more than two years ago.

In 2016, Insomniac said that it would “love” to bring Sunset Overdrive to PC but admitted that it would need approval from publisher Microsoft. Last year, Insomniac CEO Ted Price indicated that he’d like to make a Sunset Overdrive 2 and bring that to multiple platforms, but he said his studio would need a publisher to make it happen.

  • First Gears Pop! Gameplay Revealed

The Coalition has provided a first look at Gears Pop! gameplay, which offers a condensed real-time strategy experience with a few special Gears of War touches.

Revealed in a developer video, you can watch a single PvP match between studio head Rod Fergusson and lead game designer Tyler Bielman. Though a “soft” launch is coming soon, a wide release of the game will come sometime in 2019 for iPhones and Androids.

“The object of the game is to play out your units and push forward and take down the outposts and the leader at the opposite end of the field,” said Bielman.

You progressively take cover attempting to get to the other end of the field: destroying an enemy outpost at the other end will net you a single point. A power bar at the bottom of the screen fills up in discrete segments, with each unit costing a certain ammount of these segments to play.
