  • Devil's Third Creator Advises Against Using Wii U GamePad to Play

Tomonobu Itagaki has advised Wii U owners not to use the console’s GamePad to play his upcoming third-person action game, Devil’s Third.

In a Facebook post, Itagaki listed out a number of “disadvantages” he believes players using a GamePad will face.

“I never wanna discount standard tab-controller,” he said, “But Devil’s Third is a super speedy game. So [GamePad] has the following disadvantages: Four face buttons are positioned [to be overcrowded], so you easily press the wrong button. In that case, you will die.

“Distance of two analog sticks are too far apart, so it’s quite difficult for you to feel/grasp the battlefield. Devil’s Third is a game you play a long time, the standard [GamePad] is too heavy for such use.”

Itagaki also advised those in the media playing the game’s multiplayer in advance of its release to use the Pro Controller in addition to a USB keyboard–presumably for chat functionality–instead of the GamePad, which is “not recommended.”

He also provided some guidance on how to approach analysis of multiplayer before the general public have access to it.

“The multiplayer mode of Devil’s Third is designed to be played by tens of thousands of players,” he explained. “We understand it’s going to be a very tough job to evaluate such a game. It will be much appreciated if you use your imagination to get the depth when you play the multiplayer.”

The Devil’s Third release date has been confirmed as August 28 in Europe. A release date for North America has not been announced, but the Devil’s Third game page on Nintendo’s website lists the title as “TBD.”

Nintendo addressed recent reports claimed Nintendo will no longer publish Devil’s Third in North America, but but didn’t definitively state whether it plans to publish the game.

“We know you are eager to hear more about Devil’s Third,” Nintendo of America said. “We are excited to bring the game to Wii U and will have more to share soon.”

Devil’s Third brings together the hack-and-slash gameplay–which Itagaki earned acclaimed for with Ninja Gaiden–and third-person shooting. The game was originally going to be published by the now-defunct publisher THQ. At the time, it was an Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC game, but later shifted to become a Nintendo-exclusive.

  • Major Bug Forces League of Legends Ranked Play Offline

Major Bug Forces League of Legends Ranked Play Offline

Riot Games has removed Ranked play from its massively popular MOBA League of Legends after the developer discovered a major bug that was “negatively impacting games.”

A post on the game’s support site states that the issue is related to the Recall spell.

The Recall spell in League of Legends allows players to teleport back to their base after a short timer. The bug kills that counter, in turn allowing players to transport back to their base at will.

    This undermines the whole experience.

Since the Recall spell applies to all Champions, the bug is that much more difficult to fix, Riot said in a statement.

“Unfortunately, this particular issue can’t be mitigated by disabling a specific champion or item so we’ve temporarily disabled Ranked while we develop a solution,” Riot said in a post last night.

The developer promised to share a status update later today. We’ll have that information for you as soon as it becomes available.

League of Legends is one of the biggest PC games out there. By Riot’s latest count, the game sees around 27 million players every single day.

  • Activision's Deadpool Returns to Steam, But Not Xbox 360 or PS3

Activision's Deadpool Returns to Steam, But Not Xbox 360 or PS3

Activision’s Deadpool, an action game based on the Marvel character, has returned to Steam following its de-listing from all digital storefronts. You can buy the game today on the popular digital PC marketplace for $40.

Deadpool’s return to Steam came with no official announcement or promotion from Activision. This, however, is not unprecedented, as Activision also launched a Prototype remastered bundle this week with very little fanfare.

We have followed up with Activision to find out if the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Deadpool are also set to return.

Deadpool was originally removed from digital stores at the end of 2013 alongside other Marvel games, including X-Men: The Official Game, X-Men: Destiny, X-Men: Origins – Wolverine, and the Spider-Man titles Edge of Time, Shattered Dimensions, Friend or Foe, and Web of Shadows. Those games remain unavailable.

Activision’s Marvel games were pulled as a result of an expired licensing agreement between the two companies.

Why Deadpool has returned but not the others is unknown. However, the move comes after San Diego Comic-Con last week, where the 2016 Deadpool movie starring Ryan Reynolds generated a lot of buzz.

Activision’s Deadpool was developed by High Moon Studios. The developer is now working alongside Bungie on Destiny content.

  • Angry Birds 2 Announced, Release Date Revealed

Angry Birds 2 Announced, Release Date Revealed

Angry Birds 2, the sequel to the mobile hit Angry Birds, has been announced by developer Rovio Entertainment.

After 15 games and around 3 billion downloads for the series, Angry Birds 2 will arrive on July 30, and will be the first full sequel to the 2009 hit. Rovio is promising more information later in July.

Although this is the first full sequel, the original game spawned numerous spin-offs and licensed adaptations, such as Bad Piggies and Angry Birds Star Wars. It’s also given rise to an animated movie, starring Game of Thrones‘ Peter Dinklage, and Angry Birds LEGO sets.

Rovio will be hoping the new release and merchandise helps its fortunes, after a round of layoffs last year affected around 16 percent of its total workforce.

The Angry Birds movie will launch in 2016, while Angry Birds 2 is due to launch on July 30.
