  • Watch Ronda Rousey vs. Floyd Mayweather in Modded Street Fighter

YouTuber user Richie Branson has modded the PC version of Street Fighter IV to create a fantasy faceoff between two undefeated real-world fighting champions, Ronda Rousey and Floyd Mayweather.

Balrog is designed to look like Mayweather, while Cammy is given a Rousey-like overhaul. This fake matchup in a video game obviously doesn’t determine who would win in a real fight. But it’s still cool to watch. We won’t spoil the result for you, but know that both fighters were being controlled by the AI.

The next Street Fighter game is Street Fighter V, which launches in spring 2016 for PlayStation 4 and PC.

  • 2K Responds to WWE 2K16 Diva Criticism

2K Responds to WWE 2K16 Diva Criticism

Now that 2K Sports has announced all 120 characters for WWE 2K16, some fans have spoken out to say they would have liked to have seen more Divas included on the roster. 2K Sports has now responded to this criticism, but said it could not include some newer divas due to “various reasons.”

“With our final roster reveal this past Monday, it was awesome seeing the excitement for The New Day, Enzo and Cass, Mikey Whipwreck, and more,” the developer said. “But it was clear that some in the community are frustrated by the lack of the newer Divas added to the main WWE roster recently.

“We pushed as hard as we could to include Sasha Banks, Charlotte, Becky Lynch, and Bayley in WWE 2k16, but it simply did not work out for various reasons, “it added.

2K Sports also confirmed that WWE’s Four Horsewomen will not be available as DLC down the road.

There are 120 playable characters in WWE 2K16, including 13 divas. This is the most Divas ever for a WWE 2K game; meanwhile the game’s overall roster is the largest in franchise history.

“We all agree the Divas Revolution is great for business and look forward to celebrating the Divas even more in future WWE 2K titles,” 2K Sports said.

The WWE 2K16 release date is set for October 27 on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 3. Those who preorder WWE 2K16 will receive two playable versions of Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator from the popular action movies.

  • Watch Persona 5 Opening Song Featuring New Character

Atlus has unveiled new footage of the opening cinematic for its role-playing game Persona 5, intercut with video from singer Lyn performing the game’s main theme song. The trailer was shown during a Persona 5 presentation which was streamed live from Tokyo Game Show today.

Perhaps most notably, the footage debuts a new character joining the previously confirmed cast, a blue-haired painter who appears to be a student. Atlus also announced that Persona 5 will be getting an animated series, although details were scarce. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, as Persona 4 was also made into an animated show totaling 26 episodes, and Persona 3 is being made into a series of animated films.

Persona 5 is being developed for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. The game was originally scheduled for release this year, but has since been delayed to Summer 2016.

  • Nintendo Characters Coming to Strategy RPG Project X Zone 2

While Mario and friends tend to make cameos in a wide variety of genres and in games from many different companies, it’s rare to be able to play as a Fire Emblem character outside of a Nintendo game. But that’s exactly what you’ll be able to do in the cameo-packed Project X Zone 2.

Announced earlier today during a livestream at the Tokyo Game Show, both Lucina and Chrom from Fire Emblem: Awakening will make an appearance in the Namco Bandai-published game. Project X Zone is developed by Monolith Soft, so it’s perhaps less surprising that it will also include Xenoblade Chronicles’ Fiora as a playable character.

Previous cross-over characters already revealed for the game include Phoenix Wright (from the Ace Attorney series); X & Zero (from Mega Man X); Ken, Ryu, and Chun-Li (from Street Fighter); and Segata Sanshiro (from the Japanese Sega Saturn commercials).

Project X Zone 2 is set to release in the US and EU next February on the Nintendo 3DS.

  • Final Fantasy 15's Black Haired Woman Revealed

Final Fantasy 15's Black Haired Woman Revealed

Square Enix has revealed more details about the mysterious black-haired woman in Final Fantasy XV who has been shown next to protagonist Lunafreya. Her name is Gentiana, and she plays an “important role” in the game’s story.

The details were shared during a presentation at Tokyo Game Show today, which was also streamed live. In addition, director Hajime Tabata also shared story details on Regis, the father of protagonist Noctis.

The events of Final Fantasy XV center around a war in the nation of Niflheim, which has taken control of the world save for one country, Lucis. Noctis and his father Regis reside in Lucis, which has maintained its independence thanks to the crystal it possesses. Regis is the current guardian of the crystal and possesses a power similar to Noctis, being able to conjure weapons out of thin air. Regis uses his power to hold up a shield around Lucis, an act which ages him. Noctis’ mother passed away when he was an infant.

The presentation also shed details on female protagonist Lunafreya, an oracle who can speak to the gods. She is the youngest oracle ever, and is betrothed to Noctis. Lunafreya wields a double-sided spear, and will have a scene where she will fight.

Square Enix also unveiled the fishing and Chocobo riding features during today’s presentation. Final Fantasy XV will launch simultaneously worldwide in 2016 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Tokyo Game Show is taking place this weekend, and GameSpot has a team on the ground to cover the show. For more news from TGS as it breaks, stay tuned to our hub. Check out some new FFXV images below.

  • Nintendo's Next Controller May Have Scrolling Wheels Instead of Shoulder Buttons

Nintendo's Next Controller May Have Scrolling Wheels Instead of Shoulder Buttons

Nintendo has reportedly patented a new controller design that features scroll wheels where the shoulder buttons would traditionally be.

The patent, which was registered with the United States Patent Office and spotted by a user on NeoGAF, was originally filed in February of 2015, and shows a device similar in design to the current Wii U GamePad.

According to the document, the “wheel type operation section” has rotation detection and pressing detection, indicating it could work as as a traditional button input as well as a scrolling one.

The wheels are explained in the context of being used by index fingers when it is held in both hands, or with the thumb if it is held by just one hand.

Other features of the device include the traditional directional buttons and two analogue sticks. Unlike most controllers, however, it features only two face buttons, instead of the usual four.

Diagrams of the device also shows it will have a touch screen, much like the Wii U GamePad.

Nintendo first announced it was actively working on its next gaming device in March 2015. Little is known about it, other than the codename NX .Some have speculated that the NX may bridge the gap between the company’s home console and portable handheld gaming markets.

Former president Satoru Iwata said the NX aims to offer meaningful innovation.

“If you only expand upon existing hardware, it’s dull,” he said. “In some shape or form, we’re always thinking about how we want to surprise players as well as our desire to change each person’s video gaming life.”

Pictured: An image of the device from the patent

The Japanese gaming giant has committed to revealing more details about NX in 2016, but nothing before then.

Reports have suggested manufacturing for the NX is set to begin in October, with the console itself potentially launching next year. Nintendo previously assured Wii U and 3DS owners it would not abandon them in favour of their next platform.

“When NX is launched, there already will be a certain volume of Nintendo 3DS and Wii U hardware widely existing in the market, so from a software business perspective, it would be highly inefficient to stop releasing titles for Nintendo 3DS or Wii U right after the launch of NX,” said Iwata.

  • Konami Has Stopped Developing All Console Projects Except Pro Evolution Soccer, Reports Say

With the exception Pro Evolution Soccer, Konami has ceased development of all triple-A console game projects, reports have suggested.

According to French gaming site Gameblog, which Eurogamer claims to have independently verified, Konami is currently finishing work on Metal Gear Online, but has no plans to release a “big” new Metal Gear title after this.

This is in direct contrast to previous indications that it is in the planning stages of developing a new Metal Gear game. In March 2015, Konami said it is conducting “auditions for main staff to lead the development,” of a new Metal Gear project and has asked interested developers to get in touch.

Both of the aforementioned sites note that, with release of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain and PES 2016, Konami now has a blank schedule in terms of triple-A console releases.

This on its own, however, is neither a clear nor definitive sign the company is pulling out of the triple-A console market. GameSpot has contacted Konami for a statement on the matter.

The reports follow recent news that Julien Merceron, worldwide technology director in charge of overseeing the creation of the Fox Engine, has left the company.

Konami’s ongoing investment in console game development has been a big point of speculation of late.

In May 2015, Konami president Hideki Hayakawa said the company will “pursue mobile games aggressively” going forward, and that smartphones will be considered as its “main platform.”

“Our main platforms will be mobiles,” he began. “Gaming has spread to a number of platforms, but at the end of the day, the platform that is always closest to us, is mobile. Mobile is where the future of gaming lies.

“With multiplatform games, there’s really no point in dividing the market into categories anymore. Mobiles will take on the new role of linking the general public to the gaming world.”

The statements were taken as evidence the publisher was backing away from the console gaming, but Konami followed-up and released a statement saying it is interested in producing content for all the platforms available to it, including consoles.

“Konami will continue to embrace the challenge of creating entertainment content via different platforms,” it said. “Not only mobile platforms, but for home consoles, arcade units, and cards, to meet the changing needs of the times.”

  • Metal Gear Solid 5 Adding Human and Horse Costume DLC

Metal Gear Solid 5 Adding Human and Horse Costume DLC

Konami’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is gearing up to add a variety of costume DLC, for human characters and horses, it has been revealed. During Konami’s Tokyo Game Show panel this week, the company announced the new multiplayer content, some of which is based on past games.

The first is some alternate D-Horse armor, which gives the steed a more regal look. There are also new outfits for female soldiers, including a suit for The Boss and Eva’s outfit from Snake Eater. In addition, Snake himself is getting some new costumes, including a James Bond-like tuxedo. Check out some images in the gallery below, while the full video follows at the bottom of this post.

Konami has not announced pricing details for these costumes, but we’ll have that information as soon as it’s available.

The Phantom Pain shipped on September 1 behind glowing review scores, including a 10/10 from GameSpot. Meanwhile, sources told GameSpot in March that series creator Hideo Kojima was expected to exit Konami after the game ships due to a strained relationship with Konami.

Later that month, Konami announced that it had started development on a new Metal Gear Solid game and was actively recruiting for the project. However, a recent report casts some doubt on the future of the franchise as it relates to AAA releases. This followed a report from April that exposed a troubling culture inside of Konami, one in which employees are reportedly monitored by surveillance cameras.

  • Star Wars Battlefront Details Reveal How Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader Are Accessed

Star Wars Battlefront developer DICE has explained how Heroes such as Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader work in the upcoming multiplayer shooter.

Using Luke as an example, senior producer Jamie Keen explained their place in battles.

According to Keen, these characters are accessed by picking up a specific items on the battlefield. These items will, or a limited time, let players become a Force wielder.

To limit their presence on the battlefield, Heroes immediately begin to lose health, but players can increase the time they play as the character by racking up kills and topping up their health a bit.

“Our goal was to give an average player around two minutes as a Hero or Villain,” Keen explained. “But if you’re good enough, you might stretch that to around five minutes.”

He continued: “In theory, you could play as Luke Skywalker for a whole match, but that is extremely unlikely. That said, the gauntlet is thrown!”

Discussing the way Luke plays, Keen described him as an “acrobatic character, immensely powerful, and skilled with the Force.” However, he’s also “somewhat new” to his powers.

“His jump is based on a normal biomechanical jump, but it’s augmented by the Force. You see this in the films as well, such as when he’s jumping out of the carbonite pit or when he’s training on Dagobah.”

Luke’s attacks include a “wide-sweeping, heavy attack with his Lightsaber,” which is handy for taking out a group of enemies bunched together. His Force Push, meanwhile, is better suited for distant targets, who will be sent flying.

Finally, the Saber Rush lets players use the Force to propel themselves forward and deliver a “lightning-fast attack.”

EA has said the upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront Beta, in which Luke and Darth Vader will be playable, will be open to all. It did not, however, provide a release date for the game.

The announcement was made on the company’s Japanese Twitter profile, which was translated by Game Informer. Although a word for word translation was not provided, the site reports the Tweet was an apology from the developer and confirmation development had been stopped.

GameSpot has contacted Square Enix for further clarification and a statement.

Final Fantasy Agito was released in Japan as an iOS and Android free-to-play title. It was later revealed it would make its way to Vita in territory and released on January 15, 2015 as Final Fantasy Agito Plus.
