The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone Screenshots Star Monsters and Meddlers

CD Projekt Red has released new screenshots for The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone, the first paid expansion for its acclaimed role-playing game.

The images show some of the characters that will feature in the expansion–including returning love interest Shani–as well as some new environments. To avoid spoilers, CD Projekt Red has blurred out text and maps.

Hearts of Stone is expected to deliver about 10 hours of gameplay, comprised of new characters, powerful monsters, a unique romance, and a brand new storyline shaped by player choices.

Players will venture into an area called No Man’s Land, and another called Oxenfurt. Quests assigned by the “mysterious Man of Glass” will be Geralt of Rivia’s main concern here.

“Step again into the shoes of Geralt of Rivia, a professional monster slayer, this time hired to defeat a ruthless bandit captain, Olgierd von Everec, a man who possesses the power of immortality,” the Hearts of Stone description reads.

“The expansion lets you choose your own path through an experience that includes recruiting a crew of break-in artists, spending a night partying with a ghost, and outsmarting the most bizarre creatures Geralt has ever faced.”

Hearts of Stone also includes a new “Runeworld” system that its developer says “significantly” affects gameplay.

“Each Runeword will impact different aspects of in-game mechanics, allowing players to experiment with various strategies and tactics.”

CD Projekt Red has announced The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone release date as October 13. A second paid expansion, Blood and Wine, will be available before April 2016.

  • Rainbow Six Siege Beta Is 1080p on PS4, 900p on Xbox One

The ongoing Rainbow Six Siege closed beta is running at 1080p on PlayStation 4 and 900p on Xbox One, Ubisoft confirmed in a FAQ posted to the game’s website. The PC edition’s resolution, meanwhile, will fluctuate between 720p and 1080p depending on how beefy your rig is (see system requirements here).

These figures are for the game as it currently stands in closed beta. Final performance could be better. “We’re still looking to push the hardware as much as possible in order to deliver a quality experience for players and will be able to share more about the final resolution once we’re closer to release date,” Ubisoft said.

The Siege closed beta began on September 24 and runs through September 28. To get in, you’ll need to preorder the game or acquire a key through other means.

It was also confirmed today, during a panel at Europe’s EGX convention attended by whatculture, that Siege will not offer “a story mode per se.” That’s according to art director Scott Mitchell.

“There is no story mode per se,” Mitchell explained. “You go through training, where you get to experience different operators and their devices. You can play against enemy AI in co-op through all the maps. You can customize matches, so that’s what we’re offering on the single-player side of things.”

This is not to say Siege won’t offer any single-player. Back in June, Ubisoft announced that Siege will have “scenario-based missions” similar to those seen in past Rainbow Six games. “Each scenario is designed with single-player in mind, though all of them can be played in co-op,” Ubisoft said at the time. “As with the Hostage Rescue mode revealed at E3 last year, there’s no respawning; if you go down once, you’re down for good.”

Siege was originally slated to launch in October, but it was recently delayed to December. Ubisoft has high hopes for Siege, as the publisher said back in May that the game has the potential to become the company’s best-selling FPS ever, surpassing Far Cry 4. At the time, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said the game’s replayability “will be key to the game’s success.”

  • Watch First Footage of Marvel's New Netflix Show, Jessica Jones

Following the early teaser and recent batch of stills from the upcoming Marvel show Jessica Jones, a new trailer has been released. It’s the first look at actual footage from the series, which will be released onto Netflix in November. Check it out below:

Like Netflix’s other Marvel show, Daredevil, Jessica Jones takes place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, alongside Marvel Studios’ blockbuster movies, and the shows Agents Of SHIELD, and Agent Carter.

It stars Krysten Ritter as a failed superhero who has abandoned the crimefighting life to become a private detective in New York. Former Doctor Who actor David Tennant co-stars as the villainous Kilgrave (aka The Purple Man), alongside The Matrix‘s Carrie-Anne Moss and Mike Colter. Colter plays Luke Cage, a character that will also be getting his own Netflix show in 2016.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in July, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg talked about the title character and the choice of Ritter to portray her. “She’s funny! She’s dark! She’s the real deal,” Rosenberg said. “She’s utterly compelling, both the actress and the character. The first time I saw [Ritter] do drama was Breaking Bad. And she was just a guest star. We pushed her to some really dark, emotional places, and she just keeps going there. She’s got incredible range.

“Our show has plenty of action, but it’s not about the action,” Rosenberg added. “It’s about the character, it’s about her emotional arc, and she’s not a ninja. She never studies martial arts. She’s a brawler.”

The first season of Jessica Jones will feature 13 episodes, all of which hit Netflix on November 20, 2015.

  • Fallout 4 Xbox One File Size Revealed

The Fallout 4 Xbox One product page has been updated, revealing the role-playing game’s file size on Microsoft’s console: 28.12 GB. As people are saying, that seems fairly trim for such a large- and ambitious-sounding game. But compression is likely keeping the overall file size down.

Bethesda Game Studios’ last title, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, was just 3.68 GB on Xbox 360. Fallout: New Vegas, meanwhile, was 4.75 GB, while Fallout 3 weighed in at 5.48 GB.

File size details for the PlayStation 4 and PC editions of Fallout 4 are not yet available. We have followed up with Bethesda in an attempt to confirm details about Fallout 4’s file size.

The Fallout 4 release date is set for November 10 across all platforms.

Recently, Bethesda announced post-launch content release plans for the game, which include regular free updates, paid DLC, mods, and more.
