  • Terminator Franchise on Indefinite Hold After Genysis Flops

Terminator Franchise on Indefinite Hold After Genysis Flops

The latest Terminator movie, Terminator Genysis, proved a disappointment at the box office this summer, with a domestic gross of under $90 million. While the film’s overseas success did suggest that a sequel might still be made, it now seems that this is not going to happen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is unlikely to turn a profit for distributors Paramount, who have now put the sci-fi action franchise “on hold indefinitely”.

In advance of the film’s release, producer David Ellison told Den of Geek that Genysis would be the first part of a trilogy of new Terminator movies. In the same interview, co-producer Dana Goldberg explained that they planned to shoot the next two films back-to-back, while Paramount had scheduled them for summer 2017 and 2018 releases respectively.

With the movie series on hold, the status of the spinoff Terminator TV show that was announced in late 2013 is unknown. James Cameron, the writer and director of the original 1984 film and its 1991 sequel, will regain control of the rights to the property in 2019.

Rise of the Tomb Raider Getting $30 DLC Pass

It looks like upcoming Xbox timed-exclusive adventure game Rise of the Tomb Raider will be getting a DLC Pass. That’s according to a recently discovered Amazon listing, which claims the $30 offering will include “a range of content that will extend your single-player campaign, and also allow to you compete with friends.”

  • New Jessica Jones Clip Released, Marvel President Talks Film/TV Crossovers

It is now just over month until Jessica Jones, the latest Marvel TV show, premieres on Netflix. Following last week’s teaser, a new clip has been released. Check it out here:

Jessica Jones stars Krysten Ritter as a failed superhero who has abandoned the crimefighting life to become a private detective in New York. Former Doctor Who actor David Tennant co-stars as the villainous Kilgrave (aka The Purple Man), alongside The Matrix‘s Carrie-Anne Moss.

Like Netflix’s other Marvel show, Daredevil, Jessica Jones takes place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the recent restructuring at parent company Disney has cast some doubt on how much crossover would now occur between the Marvel’s movies and their TV properties.

However, at a press conference for the launch of the Avengers: Age of Ultron Blu-ray this week, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige explained that crossovers between the two mediums would still occur. “I think that’s inevitable at some point, as we’re plotting the movies going forward and they’re doing the shows,” he said.

However, Feige did admit that the differing schedules made it hard to synchronise events across the films and TV shows. “It’s easier for them. They’re more nimble and faster and produce things quicker than we do,” he explained. “Going forward, and certainly as they begin to do more shows and cast them with such great actors as they have–particularly Daredevil–that may occur.

“A lot of it is by the time we start doing a movie, they’d be midway through a season; by the time it comes out they’d be done with the second, starting the third season. Finding timing on that is not always easy.”

The first season of Jessica Jones will feature 13 episodes, and will be released in its entirety on Netflix on November 20, 2015.

  • Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection Review Roundup

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection bundles together what were considered some of the best action games released on the PlayStation 3.

It’s been some time since they were released, however, and developer Bluepoint was tasked with going back and sprucing up the trilogy for a re-release on PlayStation 4.

How does the clean-up job fare and do the games stand the test of time? We’ve gathered reviews of the collection to answer that question for you.

Take a look below and you’ll find the review scores issued by numerous publications, as well as a short excerpt from the review itself. By the time you’re done, you’ll have a good overview of the critical reception.

    • Game: Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection
    • Developer: Naughty Dog
    • Remaster: Bluepoint Games
    • Platforms: PlayStation 4
    • Release Date: October 7
    • Price: $60

    GameSpot — 8/10

With Uncharted 2 and 3, Naughty Dog transcended Drake’s own small beginnings. The Nathan Drake Collection is a firsthand account of Naughty Dog’s growth as a storyteller, and this collection is the best way to relive that history, and witness its transformation up close. [Full review]

    VideoGamer — 7/10

Time has not been kind to Uncharted, but the latter two games are still enjoyable, despite their many flaws. The obvious influence of Saturday serials of the 50s (and the films which were inspired by them from the 80s) is interpreted well, dragging players through to the next big set-piece, and while he is a serial killer and mad war/conflict profiteer, Drake is also a somewhat charismatic shit-eating grin of a man, as are his friends. It’s like an ultraviolent travel show, presented by three or four people who seem to be having a great time. It’s just a shame the player has to slog through so much nonsense to join them. [Full review]

    USGamer — 4.5/5

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is probably one of the best remastered collections I’ve ever played. If you own the Uncharted games, they look much better in 1080p at a smooth 60 fps. If you’ve never played them, now is the time to get in on the action. Great games, great collection. [Full review]

    EGM — 8.5/10

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is an exercise in reestablishing familiarity with one of Sony’s most recognizable faces. Almost everything new in the game is ancillary, but what makes this retrospective collection worth consideration is the the quality of design the original games brought to the table. [Full review]

    Metro — 8/10

An excellent remaster of three of the PlayStation 3’s best looking games, but none of them have aged quite as gracefully as you might expect. [Full review]

    IGN — 9.0

Missing bells and whistles aside, these three exemplary games have never looked or played better than they do here, so whether you’ve played them before or not, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection should be in your library. These games have aged remarkably well, they’re still an absolute [joy] to play, and their characters are as charming and memorable as ever. [Full review]

    Digital Spy — 4/5

While the original game shows its age more than most, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is a generous package that takes three of the best games for the PS3 – or any console, for that matter – and improves them with the kind of upgrades they deserved. This glorious compilation is the definitive way to experience the trilogy, whether you’re a returning fan after a recap ahead of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End or a newcomer looking to pop your Uncharted cherry. Either way, you’re in for a treat. [Full review]

    GamesRadar+ — 4/5

Playing every boisterous Uncharted back-to-back results in a pleasant sort of exhaustion, and maybe an unhealthy impulse to sidle alongside your bathtub and use it for cover. The narrative arc of Nathan Drake’s games pair with a technological arc of sorts, starting with the small beginnings of Drake’s Fortune and ending in the ‘climax’ of Uncharted 3’s stunning desert canyons and how’d-they-do-that lighting. If you value the craft of games and appreciate how they evolve, here’s your chance to see how Uncharted grew up. [Full review]

    Jimquisition — 8/10

If you were already a fan of the series, this remastered bundle will be worth picking up. Those who are a bit more cynical, as I was, may very well find themselves surprised by the time they’ve slogged through all three of them. Pleasantly so. [Full review]

    PlayStation Lifestyle — 10/10

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is not one or two, but three of the best PS3 games, remastered with precision, love, and care for the current generation. Bluepoint has taken three of Naughty Dog’s gems from the PS3, polished them up more than we imagined they could be, and put them back out into the world. Whether you’re new to the PlayStation family and want to catch up on the adventures of one of their titular characters, or your looking to relive Uncharted again before the release of A Thief’s End, there’s little reason not to own this phenomenally remastered collection of beloved PS3 classics and rediscover the treasures on PS4. [Full review]

    God is a Geek — 10/10

Even if you played all three games on PS3, it’s worth picking up again now – but if for some reason you missed them first time round, maybe because you never owned a PS3 or simply overlooked them, the Nathan Drake Collection is utterly, maddeningly essential. With Uncharted 4 not too far away, this is the perfect time to go off the edge of the map all over again with Naughty Dog’s seminal franchise. [Full review]

  • Nintendo Restocking These Rare Amiibo Soon

Nintendo Restocking These Rare Amiibo Soon

Nintendo has announced plans to restock some rare Amiibo toys. Writing on Twitter, Nintendo of America said collectors can expect Little Mac, Captain Falcon, Greninja, Fox, and Shulk to make a return “soon.”

This announcement comes from the Nintendo of America Twitter page, meaning it pertains to retailers in North America. It is unclear if these same toys will be restocked in Europe and other regions.

Some of these Amiibo toys were retailer-exclusives during their initial runs. Shulk was sold through GameStop, while Greninja and Lucario were offered only at Toys R Us. Nintendo did not say if this exclusivity will carry forward when stock is resupplied.

In the United States alone, Nintendo has sold more than 7 million Amiibo toys. Worldwide, that figure stands at more than 14.7 million by the end of June 2015.

The “toys-to-life” figures, which are compatible with a number of Wii U and 3DS games, launched in June 2014 and have become something of a phenomenon.
