  • Marvel's New Spider-Man Movie Gets Official Title

Marvel's New Spider-Man Movie Gets Official Title

The title of the upcoming standalone Spider-Man movie has been confirmed. As rumoured last week, the film will be called Spider-Man: Homecoming, and hits cinemas in summer 2017.

The name of the Spidey movie was revealed by Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman at the CinemaCon in Las Vegas. The film will be a co-production between Sony and Marvel Studios, after a deal was struck between the two companies in 2015. The movie rights to the character were previously owned solely by Sony, but the arrangement allows the iconic webslinger to now be a part of Marvel’s ongoing cinematic universe.

Rothman explained that the name had a double meaning, referring both to the high-school age of Spider-Man’s alter ego Peter Parker, and also that “Peter is trying to find his way home.”

Spider-Man is now played by British actor Tom Holland, and he will make his debut next month in Captain America: Civil War. The new Spidey can be glimpsed at the end of this trailer, while the Sony presentation showcased another clip from the film, featuring Holland and Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark.

In addition, BDM have reported that the winged bad guy Vulture might play a part in the new film. According to the site, he has a “non-main villain role.”

Last year Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts spoke about the decision to make Peter Parker a teenager. “I love the idea of making a coming-of-age high school movie,” he told Empire. “We’re really going to see Peter Parker in high school and get deeper into that side of it. He’s just 15 now.

“[The film] will not be an origin story. We want to reveal it in different ways and spend much more time focusing on this young high school kid dealing with his powers.”

Spider-Man: Homecoming is set for release on July 7, 2017.

  • See New Deux Ex: Mankind Divided Gameplay in Eidos Montreal Studio Visit Video

3D design software creator Autodesk has released a video of a studio visit to Eidos Montreal, developer of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. Along with offering some insight into the tools its developers use to create games, the video also provides a fresh look at gameplay from the upcoming sequel.

The clips include soldiers, who look to be cybernetically enhanced, mistreating ordinary human citizens, a showcase of some of the dark, slum-like environments in the game, and a bit of first-person shooting. Take a look above to see it all.

Mankind Divided was previously expected to launch in February 2016, but the game was delayed by six months. Developer Eidos Montreal said it refused to compromise on quality, and as a result the delay was necessary. It will now launch on August 23.

The game, which runs on Eidos’ proprietary Dawn Engine, is in development for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. It takes place in 2029, and continues the story of Adam Jensen, picking up after the events of Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

The game’s release date isn’t the only element of the project to have changed. Square Enix originally announced an “Augment Your Pre-Order” campaign for Mankind Divided, but this was tossed out after the publisher received a “resounding amount of negative feedback.”

  • Dark Souls 3 PC Crash Temporary Fixes Discovered

Dark Souls 3 PC Crash Temporary Fixes Discovered

A Dark Souls 3 player on PC has detailed a temporary workaround for a bug that is causing crashes at the very start of the game. Posting on Steam, user Elioden Ward explained the issue is being caused by a bug in the lighting.

“There aren’t really any details but if your ‘Lighting’ settings are set above LOW you have a chance to crash when approaching a bonfire,” the post explained. “Therefore, the fix is (most of the time) as simple as swapping your Lighting option (in advanced options) to LOW.”

For those that aren’t willing to drop their lighting settings down to low, wearing a helmet also helps. Since equipment is limited at the start, the easiest way to acquire a helmet is to pick the Knight class.

“Apparently, if you wear a full helmet (a helmet that completely conceals your character’s face/hair) you won’t crash when approaching bonfires, even with your Lighting setting on MEDIUM, HIGH, or MAX,” the post adds.

Following the launch of Dark Souls 3 on April 12, numerous players reported issues with crashing at the very first bonfire. The bug has been brought to publisher Bandai Namco’s attention and a more permanent fix is reportedly in the works.

GameSpot’s Dark Souls III review awarded the sequel 8/10.

“There are several possible endings to Dark Souls III, and although most are anticlimactic, they drive home the loneliness of the paths we took,” reviewer Mike Mahardy said.

“The old lords have abandoned their posts, and in the hunt to usurp them, we descend into those dark valleys, and climb those imposing peaks. This is the essence of Dark Souls III: periods of doubt, followed by great reward. The journey may be rocky, but there’s a throne waiting at the end.”

  • Epic Hoping to Better Serve European and Russian Players With New Office

Epic Hoping to Better Serve European and Russian Players With New Office

Unreal Tournament and Gears of War creator Epic Games today announced the formation and opening of a office in Berlin, Germany. This is a publishing office, not a game development studio.

It represents Epic’s first branch in the country. In a statement, Epic said this office will help the developer to better serve its players in Europe and Russia specifically.

“The best way to serve our players is to have a local presence,” Epic president Paul Meegan said. “Our European and Russian community is important to us, and establishing our Berlin office is the first step to ensuring they’ll have a great day one experience with our games.”

Epic has recruited Paw Larsen (director of publishing for western Europe) and Sergey Galyonkin (director of publishing for eastern Europe) to lead the office. Before epic, Larsen and Galyonkin worked at Riot Games (League of Legends) and Wargaming (World of Tanks), respectively.

The new Epic office in Berlin is currently looking to fill positions in the marketing communications, community, and player support fields. You can visit this page and this page for more on job opportunities.

Epic’s headquarters is in Cary, North Carolina. Its other US-based studios include Epic Games Seattle and Chair Entertainment in Utah. Internationally, Epic has offices in the UK, Japan, Korea, and China.

The studio is currently working on Paragon, Fortnite, and an ambitious-sounding game titled Spyjinx, which Chair Entertainment is making with Star Wars director JJ Abrams and his Bad Robot team. Epic also runs and licenses the Unreal Engine, which is used in many high-profile games.

Epic sold the Gears of War franchise to Microsoft in 2014.

  • Get Rockstar's Bully for Wicked Cheap on PC Right Now

Get Rockstar's Bully for Wicked Cheap on PC Right Now

Bully: Scholarship Edition, Rockstar’s classic and well-received open-world action game, is currently marked down to less than $4 on Steam. You can get the 2008 title for just $3.74, but you’ll have to act quickly, as the deal expires tomorrow, April 13. Head to Steam here to pick up a copy.

The game normally sells for $15, meaning this is a 75 percent markdown.

Bully takes place in a fictional New England boarding school and stars 15-year-old troublemaker Jimmy Hopkins. It’s a story about the challenges and awkwardness of growing up.

“Beat the jocks at dodge ball, play pranks on the preppies, save the nerds, kiss the girl, and ultimately navigate the social hierarchy in the worst school around,” reads a line from its description.

PC players also get the complete soundtrack, which features 26 songs created specifically for the game.

The 2006 original Bully and the 2008 Scholarship Edition were well-received and are considered fan-favorites among Rockstar’s lineup of franchises. Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser said in a 2011 interview that the company “adores” Bully and might make a new game in the series in the future.

  • Marvel's Inhumans Movie May Move From 2019 Release

Marvel's Inhumans Movie May Move From 2019 Release

Marvel Studios like to plan far in advance–the schedule of upcoming superhero movies usually stretches several years ahead. However, changes can occur along the way and as new movies are added some inevitably disappear from the line-up. It seems that Inhumans is one such casualty.

Inhumans was originally scheduled for a 2019 release, but this was before the standalone Spider-Man film and Ant-Man and The Wasp were added, not to mention the fact that Marvel are now exploring the story of the genetically-created superhero race on TV in Agents of SHIELD.

In an interview with Collider to promote Captain America: Civil War, Marvel boss Kevin Feige was asked about whether Inhumans would still happen.

“I think it will shuffle off the current date that it’s on right now,” he confirmed. “How far down it shuffles, I’m not sure yet.

“Since we made our initial phase three announcement, we added Spider-Man, which was a big joyous coup for us. We added Ant-Man and the Wasp, which was a big fun continuation of that story for us. Walt Disney Company has announced an Indiana Jones film for right around that same time.”

However, when asked specifically about whether the fact that Inhuman characters now featured in TV’s Agents of Shield meant the film would be scrapped entirely, Feige was firm in his answer: “No. It’s a question of when.”

Although Feige’s comments suggest the film may not be released in 2019, neither Marvel Studios nor Disney have officially confirmed a change in its planned release window yet.

The Inhumans were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and first appeared in a 1965 issue of Fantastic Four. Led by hypersonically-voiced Black Bolt, their first self-titled comic line ran from 1975 to 1977. They have subsequently appeared in a variety of limited and ongoing series over the past four decades.

  • New Preacher Clip Features Tulip in Violent Car Fight

The highly anticipated adaptation of cult comic book Preacher premieres on AMC on May 22. Ahead of that, a new clip has been released featuring Agent of SHIELD‘s Ruth Negga, who appears in the series as former hitwoman Tulip. Watch it below:

Tulip makes quite the first impression. #PREACHER is coming Sunday, May 22.https://t.co/O5KpPRfk3l

    — PREACHER (@PreacherAMC) April 11, 2016

This is the second teaser to be released in April. The first provided a look at another fan favourite, the unfortunately-named Arseface. Check that out here.

Preacher stars Captain America‘s Dominic Cooper as a smalltown preacher who is possessed by a supernatural creature and controlled by opposing forces of both good and evil. The show has been developed by Seth Rogen and his regular filmmaking partner Evan Goldberg.

The comic book was created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, and first published in 1995 by the DC imprint Vertigo to huge acclaim. It ran for a total of 75 issues, including several one-off specials and a limited series, and finished in 2000.

Last week it was announced that Rogen and Goldberg are also developing The Boys, another acclaimed comic book written by Ennis, for TV. The show focuses upon a CIA squad who are tasked with keeping troublesome superheroes in check. As reported by Deadline, The Boys is being developed for Cinemax.
