The trailer for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter has landed. The sixth movie in the hit series of video game adaptations is due for release next year, and this short international teaser provides a first look at it. A longer version is due later today, but for now here’s what to expect…
The film stars Milla Jovovich as zombie-fighting heroine Alice once more, with Paul WS Anderson returning to direct. It co-stars Shawn Roberts, Ali Larter, and Iain Glen, and arrives in theaters on January 27, 2017. A new poster and image have also been released–check them out at the end of this story.
The PlayStation 4 and PC versions of No Man’s Sky run on different servers, director Sean Murray has confirmed. In a Reddit AMA, someone asked if the PS4 and PC No Man’s Sky universes would be linked in some way. Murray confirmed that this will not be the case.
“PS4 and PC players are using two different servers,” he said (via VideoGamer.com). “We are running a control experiment to see who names things the most juvenile things… Let the games begin!”
No Man’s Sky lets players name planets and creatures they encounter. What Murray is saying here is that players on one platform will not come across planets and creatures named by users of the other platform. That’s almost too bad, but as Murray said, it will be interesting to see how names might vary between console and PC.
Electronic Arts has not announced a briefing for Gamescom later this month, but one of the company’s biggest upcoming games will be there. Developer Respawn has announced that Titanfall 2 will be shown off during the German event in the form of a live multiplayer match.
This will take place on August 16 and is called the Factions multiplayer event. As part of this, Respawn has recruited a number of gaming personalities to participate in multiplayer matches. The event kicks off at 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET on August 16 and will be streamed live through the Titanfall Twitch channel.
In a blog post, Respawn said this multiplayer event is a good primer for what players can expect from Titanfall 2’s upcoming beta. More details on the beta will be announced “very soon,” Respawn said.
“We’re changing a lot of our matchmaking systems so you can find better games quicker,” producer Drew McCoy said. “We’ve added this awesome new thing called Networks that lets you make groups of friends and play together a lot easier.”
As for Gamescom, it runs August 17-21 in Cologne, Germany. Unlike previous years, there are no briefings scheduled from any platform-holders or publishers. Keep checking back with GameSpot for more on Gamescom in the days ahead.
In a Reddit AMA, No Man’s Sky director Sean Murray said his “best guess” is that it will come out at 11 AM PDT / 2 PM EDT / 6 PM GMT on August 12. This is not set in stone, however, Murray cautioned.
“We’ll keep you up to date as we get closer,” he said.
“The reality is that we’re still here working on it right now,” he said about the PC version. We’re just racing to get all the extra options and stuff we want.”
Spider-Man’s ability to shoot web fluid from his wrists has varied over the years. While in the original comic books, Peter Parker used his scientific knowledge to design web-shooters, the character’s first big screen appearances–in 2002’s blockbuster Spider-Man and its sequels–made it part of Spidey’s natural powers. But the web shooters are back, and new pictures from the set of Spider-man: Homecoming reveal their new look. Check them out below, via Atlanta Filming:
Spider-Man: Homecoming will be the first standalone Spidey movie from Marvel Studios, following a co-production deal with Sony Pictures. It stars Tom Holland as Peter, alongside Marisa Tomei, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Bokeem Woodbine, Tony Revolori, and Tyne Daly.
Gears of War 4 developer The Coalition has released a new eight minute gameplay video showing off a new race in the game and the return of Marcus Fenix.
Unlike the fleshy Locust the series has featured so far, the new race, called the Deebees, are robots. This looks like it changes the feel of the shooting experience, taking it closer to something like Binary Domain.
The gameplay takes place on the Fenix estate, so we get to hear Marcus get really upset about his tomatoes being ruined. He may be as angry as ever, but his priorities have clearly changed.
Gears of War 4’s campaign follows JD Fenix, Del, and Kait, but will feature Marcus Fenix. In August 2015, The Coalition’s Rod Fergusson said Gears of War 4 is aiming to tell a more intimate, personal, and morally ambiguous narrative than the past few games in the series.
He explained that while the first Gears of War was a suspenseful game about the dangerous creatures in the universe, Gears of War 3 was too focused on the war between humans and Locusts and, as a result, lost that tension. This time, the studio is returning to its roots by evoking “that sense of mystery” and “things going bump in the night.”
Capcom has confirmed Resident Evil 7: Biohazard will have Green Herbs. And by that we mean the medicinal plant that has been used to recover health in the survival horror franchise since its inception and definitely not marijuana. If you inferred that we were talking about weed based on the headline, that’s on you because everyone knows what Green Herb is used for in the context of Resident Evil.
Anyway, Capcom sent images to those that have signed up for the Resident Evil newsletter. “Take a first look at the healing items in the game! Oh wait… what’s this coin doing here?,” reads the message. Along with it is the picture below, courtesy of NeoGAF.
The presence of a coin suggests there may be an in-game vendor to buy and sell items from, however this has not been officially confirmed as of yet. Here’s hoping Resident Evil 4‘s Merchant makes his triumphant return.
Following its debut at E3 2016, Capcom released Resident Evil 7 Teaser: Beginning Hour, a short demo of the game that was available on PS4. The demo set a record for the most downloaded single-player PS4demo in the first week of its release for North America.
Resident Evil 7 is scheduled for release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on January 24, 2017.
In terms of story, it takes place after the events of Resident Evil 6 and is set in the modern day setting. The story centres on a “foreboding, derelict plantation mansion in rural America. Players must explore and survive the horrors within the mysterious, sprawling estate.

While HBO’s Game of Thrones may be coming to an end, George R.R. Martin fans may be happy to learn that his long-running Wild Cards anthology series is being spun into a TV show.
Universal Cable Productions (UCP) bought the rights to adapt the franchise for TV, Martin wrote on his LiveJournal page. The team is getting right to work, as Martin says development is starting “immediately.”
He added that the hope is to create “several interlocking series” for Wild Cards, though it’s not immediately clear what that means. Melinda Snodgrass, whose credits include Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Command, is attached to the project as well, Martin said.
Martin praised UCP for creating “innovative” and “critically acclaimed” content for TV and digital channels. Some of its previous works include Mr. Robot and 12 Monkeys.
What’s Wild Cards all about? First published in 1986, Wild Cards follows a group of humans who have contracted the “Wild Cards” virus in post-World War II America.
“The shared world of the Wild Cards diverged from our own on September 15, 1946 when an alien virus was released in the skies over Manhattan, and spread across an unsuspecting Earth,” Martin wrote. “Of those infected, 90% died horribly, drawing the black queen, 9% were twisted and deformed into jokers, while a lucky 1% became blessed with extraordinary and unpredictable powers and became aces. The world was never the same.”
Martin is not the sole writer of the Wild Cards series, as it has a roster of more than two-dozen contributors. He did not say which stories will be adapted for the screen, but did take a moment to say Wild Cards is “as large and diverse and exciting as the comic book universes of Marvel and DC.” He also claimed that the Wild Cards stories are “somewhat grittier” and considerably more realistic and more consistent” than that of Marvel of DC.
“There are thousands of stories to be told in the world of the Wild Cards,” he said.
“Only one thing I can say for (almost) sure. You will be seeing Croyd Crenson, no matter shape the eventual show or shows ends up taking. It wouldn’t be Wild Cards without the Sleeper,” Martin explained.
He ended his address by saying “Hollywood is Hollywood” so there is a chance Wild Cards may never make it to the small screen. But, if things go to plan, it should debut “in the next year or two.”
Martin also clarified that he will not work on the Wild Cards TV series himself due to an exclusivity arrangement with HBO for Game of Thrones. Also, he is busy writing The Winds of Winter.
