  • Star Wars Rogue's Composer Replaced by Oscar-Winner Who Worked on Call of Duty

Star Wars Rogue's Composer Replaced by Oscar-Winner Who Worked on Call of Duty

With only three months to go before Star Wars: Rogue One comes to theaters, Lucasfilm has reportedly replaced the movie’s Oscar-winning composer. According to The Hollywood Reporter and EW, Michael Giacchino is stepping in to replace Alexandre Desplat, who won an Oscar for The Grand Budapest Hotel.

According to the reports, the change is the result of the movie’s much-discussed reshoots. Lucasfilm did five weeks of additional filming and according to the report, this “altered the timetable to the point where Desplat had to bow out.”

Giacchino, the new composer, also won an Oscar, taking home the honor for Pixar’s beloved Up. He also worked on Ratatouille, The Incredibles, Zootopia, and Doctor Strange, all of which were made by Disney studios. He also did the music for Jurassic World and the new Star Trek films.

As EW points out, Giacchino played a stormtrooper in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, so he’s no stranger to the franchise. He might be better known in Hollywood, but he also wrote the music for the first Call of Duty game.

Rogue One comes out on December 16. Earlier this week, some new posters were revealed for it, showing off the Death Star.

The film is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Donnie Yen, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, and Mads Mikkelsen

  • Man of Steel 2 Is Being Developed by DC, Superman Actor's Manager Confirms

Man of Steel 2 Is Being Developed by DC, Superman Actor's Manager Confirms

Last month it was rumoured that Warner were looking to make a sequel to its 2013’s Superman hit Man of Steel. The manager of star Henry Cavill has now confirmed the news, revealing that the DC film is in active development at the studio.

    3130284-cavill2.jpg

In a new interview with Newsweek, Cavill’s manager, Dany Garcia, stated that Man of Steel 2 was one of the projects that the actor was currently working on at the studio. “Henry has a big appetite,” she said. “We’ve been in a five-month period of time where he’s re-strategizing, acquiring property [for his production company], he’s filming [Justice League] now, he’s in development for the Superman standalone.

“He’s beginning to expand that world. It’s beautifully teed up. In a year from now, or two years from now, he’s going to be a force globally.”

Cavill played Superman for the first time in Man of Steel and reprised the role in this year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He’ll next be seen in Justice League–in August, the actor teased a potential new-look for the character.

Man of Steel made $668 million at the global box office and represented the first entry in the DC Cinematic Universe. In August, a source for The Wrap told the site that a new Superman movie is a “top priority” for Warner.

Earlier this year, Man of Steel actor Russell Crowe said the studio originally planned to make more standalone Superman movies but later elected to pursue a DC film that featured both Superman and Batman.

  • You Must Kill a Pharmacist for Hitman's Newest Mission

You Must Kill a Pharmacist for Hitman's Newest Mission

The next Elusive Target for Hitman has been announced. This mission, which is Hitman’s 10th Elusive Target since launch, sees players tracking down a mysterious pharmacist.

The mission goes live on the in-game Featured Hub today, September 16, starting at 5 AM PT / 8 AM ET. You will need to own the first episode to find the target, as she’s located in Paris.

    3130279-elusive.jpg

As with previous Elusive Targets, the pharmacist will only be in the location for a set period of time–168 hours (7 days) in this case. And there are no second chances. If you miss out, you may never have another chance to take down the target and earn rewards.

If you complete five Elusive Targets, you’ll get the Hitman Absolution Signature Suit (see it below), while completing all 10 will unlock the Blood Money Signature Suit.

    3130278-bloodmoney.jpg

Lead online designer Torben Ellert spoke to GameSpot earlier this year about how developer IO Interactive wanted to make Elusive Targets get more difficult.

“We probably want the first couple at least to be quite approachable experiences, because it’s really important that we make it clear that these are not impossible missions,” he said. “Yes, they’re tense, because if you screw up, you’re finished. But they’re totally doable. I think we need to keep that for the next couple, but as we go down the line, we will improve on their perceptiveness, where it makes narrative sense.”

Battlefield 1 Dev Details Free "Giant's Shadow" DLC Map

DICE has shared some new details on the Battlefield 1 map Giant’s Shadow, which will be released in December for free to all players.

As detailed on the game’s website, Giant’s Shadow puts players into the Battle of the Selle in the fall of 1918. Its name comes from the fact that a massive airship crashed in an open field and is casting its shadow over the battlefield.

“The British forces have broken through the Hindenburg line and are now in pursuit towards an important railway center,” reads a line from the description. “Fierce infantry and tank engagements ensue on the open ground and river banks alongside the Cateu-Wassigny railway.”

This map, like Sinai Desert from the Battlefield 1 beta, will feature the armored train. This train is outfitted with deadly weapons and, if used properly, can turn the tide of battle.

No images for Giant’s Shadow have been released, except for the teaser art above.

All of the Battlefield 1 maps announce so far can be seen below.

    • Sinai Desert
    • Amiens

    • Giant’s Shadow (coming in December)

In addition to the on-disc and free map, DICE will add more arenas to Battlefield through its various DLC packs. The first of these, They Shall Not Pass, comes out in March 2017. In all, DICE will release four expansion packs, adding a total of 16 new multiplayer maps to the game.

All of this is included with the $50 Battlefield 1 Premium pass. For more, check out GameSpot’s previous report about everything that comes with the pass.

Battlefield 1’s beta wrapped up last week, with a record-breaking 13.2 million people taking part. The full game comes out on October 21 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

It has also been reported that the movie has a new composer. Alexandre Desplat, who won an Oscar in 2015 for The Grand Budapest Hotel, was originally hired to write the score for Rogue One. However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, scheduling conflicts have meant that he has been replaced by Inside Out‘s Michael Giacchino.

The site states that the film’s post-production schedule changed, following this summer’s extensive reshoots. With Desplat no longer available, producers approached Giacchino, who has worked with Disney on many of its Pixar films, as well as the upcoming Marvel adventure Doctor Strange.

Two new trailers for Rogue One have appeared in the past month. The first debuted during the Rio Olympics, while the second was an international teaser that contained footage not seen in the earlier trailer.

Rogue One is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Donnie Yen, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, and Mads Mikkelsen. It hits theaters on December 16, 2016.

  • Don't Like Your BattleTag on Overwatch or Hearthstone? You Can Now Change It for Free

Don't Like Your BattleTag on Overwatch or Hearthstone? You Can Now Change It for Free

Blizzard has introduced the option to change your handle on its Battle.net service. Much like Microsoft does with its Xbox Live Gamertags, Blizzard is allowing users to pick a new BattleTag once for free, but it’ll cost money for every change thereafter.

“Every Battle.net user can choose a BattleTag to represent themselves both in-game and on their Friends list,” reads the Battle.net website. “If you change your mind later on, you can change it once for free.

“Just because you change your BattleTag doesn’t mean anything else has to change–your friends will be right there waiting for you on your Battle.net Friends list.”

Switching your BattleTag after the one free change offer has been used costs $10. This feature will no doubt be appreciated by the many players out there that wish they had come up with a cooler handle for themselves when their accounts were first made. I imagine this player might be thinking about making use of the offer:

C'mon buddy, how is anyone going to add you as a friend?
C’mon buddy, how is anyone going to add you as a friend?

In other Blizzard news, the studio’s senior vice president of story and franchise development, Chris Metzen, has announce his retirement. Metzen has been one of the key creative forces behind Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo series, as well as Overwatch.

In his statement, Metzen emphasised the use of the word “retire” because he’s “not going to some other company or starting up new projects or anything remotely like that.”

  • The Last Guardian: Watch 16 Minutes of Gameplay Here

The Last Guardian was supposed to come out next month, but it was recently delayed to December. While you have to wait a while longer to play the game, you can now see a lot of gameplay footage from it.

DualShockers posted two videos that show around 16 minutes of raw gameplay footage from the long-in-development and highly anticipated adventure game. You can check out the videos below. The footage was captured on a standard PlayStation 4.

Following years of silence from its developers and speculation that the project had been quietly canceled, Sony announced development of The Last Guardian had shifted from PS3 to PS4 at E3 2015. The game was originally revealed in 2009 as a PS3 title.

In November 2015, Sony said it was purposefully holding back what it shows of The Last Guardian because it is a story-heavy game. GameSpot recently played The Last Guardian and you can hear what we had to say in this video preview, “The Last Guardian is a combination of beauty and frustration.”

Regarding the recent delay, which was announced on Monday, Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida said this came down to needing more time to squash bugs. The game is now due out on December 6.

Fumito Ueda (Ico, Shadow of the Colossus) is leading development on The Last Guardian.

  • Eat Tacos, Maybe Win PlayStation VR Bundle

Eat Tacos, Maybe Win PlayStation VR Bundle

Sony has yet again teamed up with fast food giant Taco Bell for a PlayStation promotion. This time, the two companies are working together for a PlayStation VR giveaway.

Starting today, September 15, some $5 Taco Bell Big Boxes will come with a code on them. You can then enter that code at this website for a chance to win a PlayStation VR launch bundle.

    3129735-psvr.jpg

The device goes on sale on October 13, but Sony said in a blog post today that the headset will be delivered to you “several days” early. Sony also partnered with Taco Bell to give away PlayStation 4s back in 2013 and these were delivered early as well.

There will be lots of winners for this new giveaway, it seems, as a winner will be chosen around every 15 minutes.

Winners will receive a PlayStation VR launch bundle, which includes the device itself, two PlayStation Move controllers, and a PlayStation Camera. A PS4 is also required to use PlayStation VR, so you’ll need to either already have one or buy one. Also included in the package is a $40 PlayStation Store credit that you can use to buy a game of your choice.

You can see the full contest rules here. The promotion ends October 19.

As mentioned, this isn’t the first time Sony and Taco Bell have teamed up. The 2013 PS4 giveaway was followed up by a promotion to give away Destiny PS4 bundles, while the two companies also gave away special-edition gold PS4s.

Since launch in May, Overwatch has seen considerable success. It’s appeared on numerous top-selling lists and has surpassed more than 15 million players, though it’s important to note that players does not equate to copies sold.

In other news about Overwatch, a recent patch for all platforms–PS4, Xbox One, and PC–made a number of user interface tweaks and squashes a few bugs. More importantly, however, it also makes it so Mercy’s resurrections won’t be awarded a Play of the Game as frequently.

The other major change introduced in the patch is the payload on Eichenwalde will move a little quicker now. You can take a look at the full patch notes here.
