“She is a center of power – on and off the court.” Magnolia Pics has debuted the trailer for the documentary RBG, telling the life story of iconic U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who is still going strong even at 84 years old. This premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and also stopped by the Miami Film Festival. RBG is a “revelatory documentary” exploring Ginsburg’s exceptional life and career. It packs in stories about her life from her friends, and interviews from all kinds of people, including the founders of the “Notorious R.B.G.” Tumblr blog. Leslie Felperin’s review from Sundance explains that RBG is: “like its subject… eminently sober, well-mannered, highly intelligent, scrupulous and just a teeny-weeny bit reassuringly dull.” It’s a fine film for those who want to be inspired by RBG’s awesomeness. Enjoy. ›››
Although it wasn’t a box office success, the 2012’s sci-fi action movie Dredd has gained a strong cult following over the past few years. There have been petitions from fans for a sequel, and last year it was reported that a TV show based on the character of Judge Dredd was in the works. Now actor Karl Urban (Star Trek, Thor: Ragnarok), who played Dredd in the movie, has revealed that writer Alex Garland actually directed the movie too.
Garland was the writer on Dredd, while Pete Travis was the credited director, but there have been rumors for some time that Garland directed the film too. With Garland now an established director in his own right, Urban has confirmed that this was the case. “A huge part of the success of Dredd is in fact due to Alex Garland,” he said. “What a lot of people don’t realize is that Alex actually directed that movie. I just hope when people think of Alex Garland’s filmography that Dredd is the first film that he made before Ex Machina. You think about it in those terms; it goes Dredd, Ex Machina, Annihilation.”
After Dredd was released, the LA Times reported that Travis was prohibited from participating in the editing process, with Garland taking over the movie’s post-production. Garland reportedly sought a co-directing credit at this stage, but ultimately Travis and Garland issued a joint statement that they had agreed on an “unorthodox collaboration” before production began.
Dredd only made $35 million from a production budget of $50 million, which canceled any sequel plans. However, last year it was announced that a new TV show titled Judge Dredd: Mega City One was in development. Urban explained that he was definitely on board if and when the show happens.
“The rights holders [producer Brian Jenkins and Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley] are in their process of developing [it] and we’ve had many discussions and the ball’s in their court,” he said. “Hopefully, they get it together and are able to deliver more of what the audience wants. It would certainly be a privilege and a pleasure to be a part of it.”
Judge Dredd was created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra, and he first appeared in the second issue of the long-running British sci-fi comic 2000AD in 1977. The character has also appeared in a number of video games, including Judge Dredd and Judge Dredd: Dredd Vs Death. An earlier movie was released in 1995, starring Sylvester Stallone, but that was also a commercial failure.

After a lengthy beta, PS4’s latest system software update is now available to everyone. Version 5.50 is a mandatory update that weighs in at 460 MB, and it brings new organizational features, additional parental controls, and a new supersampling option for PS4 Pro.
Sony says that option will “improve image quality in some games when your PS4 Pro is connected to a TV with 2K resolution or lower,” though it won’t help if you have a standard PS4. The new parental controls, meanwhile, allow parents or guardians to monitor your child’s playtime and set restrictions on that. You can also prevent your child from playing at certain hours of the day, such as late at night; in addition, you can view and manage these options from your phone or PC.
If you’ve ever been a PlayStation Plus subscriber, you’ll now see a separate section in the Library app to keep all your PS Plus free games in one place. You can also now hide games and apps from the Purchased tab, if you wish to remove old betas, for example. In addition, PSVR games will now display a logo next to their Library icon to indicate they can played in VR. Finally, Notifications can now be deleted and you can now customise your background, team logo, or message thread cover picture with any image from a USB device. Take a look at the full patch notes above.
From now until March 15, players can embark on a new Event Quest called The Proving. This six-star mission requires a Hunter Rank of 11 or higher to accept, and it takes place in the Ancient Forest. The objective of the quest appears to be fairly straightforward–hunt an Anjanath–but this particular monster is much larger than the ones players have encountered in the game so far.
“Many captivating machines appear in Horizon Zero Dawn, but the one that made the biggest impression on the Monster Hunter: World development team was the Thunderjaw,” Monster Hunter producer Ryozo Tsujimoto explained on the PlayStation Blog. “Anjanath has a very similar skeletal structure to the Thunderjaw, so we felt it was the best fit to be the main adversary in the quest, but not just any Anjanath would do. This Anjanath is at a scale that many players will have never before encountered, and your typical attacks may not reach its height.”
Completing The Proving quest will reward you with materials that can be used to craft Aloy’s Bow and armor set. Equipping the full set will change your hunter’s appearance to resemble Aloy, regardless of your character’s gender. You can find out exactly how to unlock Aloy’s armor and bow in our guide. You can also take a look at some screenshots of the gear in the gallery above.
The first Horizon-themed Event Quest in Monster Hunter World, Lesson of the Wild, ran until February 8. If you missed out on that quest the first time around, you’ll soon have another chance to get the Palico gear. Tsujimoto revealed that Event Quests operate on a “rotating schedule,” so the Lesson of the Wild quest will return to the game again “at a later date.”
In addition to the new Horizon Event Quest, some PS4 players can also still take part in Monster Hunter World’s first Street Fighter V quest. Those who have a save file of Street Fighter V on their console can accept the Event Quest titled Down the Dark, Muddy Path, which will reward players with material to create a set of Ryu armor. That quest and a second one for Sakura armor will be available to all PS4 and Xbox One players at a later date.
The latest free expansion for Rainbow Six Siege, Operation Chimera, launches today, thereby kicking off Year 3 for the popular shooter. This is a more substantial update than usual, as it adds new content to not only the core, competitive multiplayer component of the game, but it also introduces a new co-op event mode for a limited time. After a period of server downtime, Operation Chimera is now live on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
As part of this new expansion, two new Operators are now available. Unusually, both are Attackers; Finka is able to heal and temporarily boost the health of teammates or revive them from a distance, while Lion possesses a drone that can be used to identify the location of enemies for a brief time. They’re both available to Year 3 season pass owners now, while other players will be able to purchase them with in-game currency soon. You can read all about them in our impressions of the new Chimera Operators.
Outbreak is another major highlight of this update. It’s a co-op mode quite unlike anything currently in the game; across three missions, teams of three players work together to deal with zombie-like enemies. This comes complete with new cutscenes featuring characters like Ash and Thermite, and it’s joined by a special loot box that includes exclusive gear. Outbreak and the loot box will only be available for a limited time, running from now until April 3.
“He who did justice without drawing his sword.” Strand Releasing has debuted an official US trailer for the film Zama, adapted from Antonio Di Benedetto’s acclaimed novel, about a Spanish officer stationed in Paraguay separated from his wife and children. Daniel Giménez Cacho plays Don Diego de Zama, a real-life person who struggled with his mental and emotional state as isolation, bureaucratic setbacks, and self-destructive choices begin to compound themselves in his life. The cast includes Lola Dueñas, Matheus Nachtergaele, Juan Minujín, Nahuel Cano, Mariana Nunes, and Daniel Veronese. This received rave reviews from some critics at the festivals where it played last year, though it seems like an acquired taste. Some may be fully into it, others may be bored by it, but it certainly is stunning to look at. See below. ›››
“Why does a writer waste time with us?” A new trailer has debuted for the French film The Workshop, also L’atelier in French, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to very positive reviews. Made by the director of The Class, the film went on to play at numerous film festivals throughout 2017, and is just getting released in select theaters later this month. The Workshop is about a writing workshop class in the summer in a small town near Marseilles, which is being taught by a famous novelist from Paris, played by Marina Foïs. The students all have something unique to offer, and are all there for various reasons, but one of them seems to stand out. Also starring Matthieu Lucci, Florian Beaujean, Mamadou Doumbia, Mélissa Guilbert, Warda Rammach, Julien Souve, and Issam Talbi. This is a powerful, fascinating film about the importance of storytelling and getting deeper into the aspects of humanity that represent each of us. I saw this in Cannes and highly recommend it, it can teach you to look at different perspectives in new ways. ›››
“You can’t fix the parts without treating the whole.” Focus Features has released a full-length trailer for the film Tully, the latest from director Jason Reitman, reuniting with with Charlize Theron, who starred in his film Young Adult, and reuniting with screenwriter Diablo Cody, who wrote the scripts for Juno and Young Adult. Tully was a last minute, surprise premiere at the Sundance Film Festival – where I saw it and loved it, naming it as one of my favorite films of the festival. Theron plays a mother of three, including a new baby, who hires a night nanny as suggested by her brother. Mackenzie Davis plays Tully, the charming nanny who helps her finish all the work in the evening. The film’s cast includes Mark Duplass and Ron Livingston. This really is one of my favorites, it’s one of Reitman’s best, and I highly recommend seeing it. ›››
