First Trailer for Robert Greene's Doc 'Bisbee '17' About an Arizona Town

    Bisbee '17 Doc Trailer

“A mining town without a mine is usually referred to as a ghost town.” 4th Row Films has debuted the first official trailer for a documentary titled Bisbee ’17, the latest doc from filmmaker Robert Greene (Fake It So Real, Actress, Kate Plays Christine). This premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to rave reviews, many of which are quoted in this powerful trailer. The film tells the story of a mining town on the Arizona-Mexico border called Bisbee. In 1917, the town violently deported over 1,000 migrant workers. Greene gets the local townspeople to recreate this event in vivid detail in 2017, one hundred years later, and it’s a chilling look at how the past has yet to be reconciled. This is a must see film for all documentary fans, as it’s an impressive work that confronts “the current political predicaments of immigration, unionization, environmental damage and corporate corruption” with ” haunting messages about solidarity and struggle.” ›››

Feed Me Cinema – Back for More Karlovy Vary Film Festival Goodness

    Karlovy Vary Film Festival

I’m back! Back in the Karlovy Vary groove..! Kicking off this weekend is the 53rd Karlovy Vary Film Festival, a wonderful festival that takes place in a lovely little spa town (also known as Carlsbad) in Czechia – just a few hours drive west of Prague. This is my second year back to the festival, as I stopped by last year for my very first time. And I am so happy to be back. I think I’m falling in love with this festival! The town, the people, it’s wonderful. There’s an undeniable cinephile vibe, campsites for those who can’t afford hotels, the venues are vintage cinemas or old theater halls converted into temporary cinemas. Best of all, Karlovy Vary has a stellar line-up and that’s why I’m here – to catch up with and see lots of films over the next week. ›››

  • New Full-Length Trailer for 80s Indie Mystery Thriller 'Summer of '84'

New Full-Length Trailer for 80s Indie Mystery Thriller 'Summer of '84'

    Summer of '84 Trailer

“There’s a serial killer on the loose! What else could possibly be this exciting?” Right?! Gunpowder & Sky has released the full-length official trailer for filmmaking collective RKSS’ new film Summer of ’84, which first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. This is the film that has been described as a mash-up of “Stranger Things”, Stand By Me, and The Goonies, set in the 80’s about a group of kids trying to figure out who a local serial killer is and stop him. The cast is lead by a group of four young kids, and the film stars Graham Verchere, Judah Lewis, Caleb Emery, Cory Gruter-Andrew, Tiera Skovbye, Rich Sommer, Jason Gray-Stanford, and Shauna Johannesen. The reviews for this from Sundance weren’t as great as expected, but it still looks like it might be an entertaining film to watch later in the fall. ›››

  • Awful Trailer for Netflix Comedy 'Father of the Year' with David Spade

Awful Trailer for Netflix Comedy 'Father of the Year' with David Spade

    Father of the Year Trailer

“Some people say I’m unstable, and I snap.” Netflix has debuted the trailer for a comedy titled Father of the Year, one of the latest cringe-worthy Happy Madison productions from Adam Sandler’s deal with the streaming studio. Surprise surprise, this one looks just as bad. Father of the Year is about two fathers who get into an epic fight of sorts after their college graduate sons challenge them to a showdown. David Spade and Nat Faxon star as the dads, Joey Bragg and Matt Shively star as their kids, and the also includes Bridgit Mendler, Bill Kottkamp, Dean Winters, and Kevin Nealon. This really looks terrible. If you want to watch a better fight movie, Fist Fight is a good choice. And if you want to watch a much better film about a father, Bobcat Goldthwait’s World’s Greatest Dad is an underrated gem. Just skip this and move on. ›››

  • Meet the Kids in First Trailer for Sundance Sensation 'We the Animals'

Meet the Kids in First Trailer for Sundance Sensation 'We the Animals'

    We the Animals Trailer

“Promise me you’ll stay nine forever.” The Orchard has debuted the first official trailer for an indie film titled We the Animals, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year, won the NEXT Innovator Award, and earned a whole bunch of acclaim and rave reviews from critics all over the world. The film sort of reminds me of Beasts of the Southern Wild, about a group of young kids who create their own worlds and live in poor conditions with their parents. The film stars Sheila Vand and Raúl Castillo as the parents, and the story focuses on one specific young boy named Jonah. He also has two other brothers, Manny and Joel, and the three of them are played by Evan Rosado, Josiah Gabriel, and Isaiah Kristian. This is an outstanding trailer for a really wonderful, special film about these kids and how they survive in tough times, supporting each other with imagination and love. I hope this film finds an audience, it deserves to be seen. ›››

  • First Trailer for Russian Drama 'Jumpman' Premiering at Karlovy Vary

First Trailer for Russian Drama 'Jumpman' Premiering at Karlovy Vary

    Jumpman

“Do you really feel no pain?” This looks like a must see. An official trailer has debuted for an indie film from Russia titled Jumpman, which is the third film from Russian filmmaker Ivan I. Tverdovskiy (Corrections Class and Zoology). Jumpman stars Denis Vlasenko as Dennis, a boy who grew up in an orphanage and has a very rare illness – he is immune to pain. This makes him popular among other boys, who take bets on how long he can endure cruel physical games. One day his mother returns and takes him in, forcing him to become a “jumpman” – someone who jumps in front of cars to blackmail the drivers for money. “Reunited with his mother, Dennis’ feels that this new life is a dream come true until one day… he starts feeling pain again.” The cast includes Anna Slyu, Danil Steklov, Pavel Chinarev, and Vilma Kutavičiútë. This is premiering at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival this week, it’s one of my top priorities to catch during the fest. ›››

  • Ethan Hawke & Rose Byrne in Official Trailer for Comedy 'Juliet, Naked'

Ethan Hawke & Rose Byrne in Official Trailer for Comedy 'Juliet, Naked'

    Juliet, Naked Trailer

“Do you think there’s any way back for me?” Roadside Attractions has released the first trailer for an indie comedy titled Juliet, Naked, adapted from Nick Hornby’s novel of the same name. This premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, but feels much more like a mainstream comedy than an indie flick. Rose Byrne stars in this film as a woman in a relationship with a chummy guy, played by Chris O’Dowd, who is obsessed with one particular band. When their relationship falls apart, the band’s lead musician re-appears after 25 years and connects with Byrne, who falls into a relationship with him, making things extra awkward with her ex. Ethan Hawke stars as the musician who is tired of attention, and the supporting cast includes Megan Dodds, Jimmy O. Yang, Lily Newmark, and Azhy Robertson. It’s a sweet little film, basically a comedy about “life’s second chances”, but it didn’t win me over at Sundance. Still worth a watch. ›››

First Trailer for Judy Greer's 'A Happening of Monumental Proportions'

    A Happening of Monumental Proportions

“Look – it’s not important which direction you go, what’s important is that you commit.” Great Point Media has released an official trailer for an indie ensemble comedy titled A Happening of Monumental Proportions, the feature directorial debut of beloved actress Judy Greer. The film is set over the course of one wild, wacky day, about a group of students (and their parents) at a school in Los Angeles who find themselves caught up in a plot of sex, lies and dead bodies. Sounds fun, right? The impressive ensemble cast includes Allison Janney, Common, Jennifer Garner, Bradley Whitford, Katie Holmes, Kumail Nanjiani, Storm Reid, Anders Holm, Rob Riggle, John Cho, Nat Faxon, Marla Sokoloff, Mary Birdsong, and yes, even Keanu Reeves. I just want to see this to see all these people together in one film. I haven’t heard anything good or bad about this yet, but it looks weirdly amusing for sure. Might be funny. ›››

  • Intense Red Band Trailer for Peter Berg's 'Mile 22' with Mark Wahlberg

Intense Red Band Trailer for Peter Berg's 'Mile 22' with Mark Wahlberg

    Mile 22 Trailer

“You have no idea how evil my government is.” STX Entertainment has launched an intense, action-packed new red band trailer for Mile 22, the latest action movie collaboration between director Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg (who have made Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon, Patriots Day together). Wahlberg plays a top secret, high level CIA agent in their “least understood unit”, tasked with finding and transporting an asset to “Mile 22” for extraction. The title refers to the place where the person can be safely extracted, and Wahlberg’s characters encounters “some very evil people” along the way. This was filmed in Colombia so it seems to take place around South America. The cast includes John Malkovich, Ronda Rousey, Iko Uwais, Terry Kinney, Sala Baker, Alexandra Vino, Poorna Jagannathan, and Lauren Cohan. This movie looks very cool, especially with The Raid’s Iko Uwais kicking some serious ass. Fire it up below. ›››

  • New US Trailer for 'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society'

New US Trailer for 'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society'

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society Trailer

“Hungry for some romance, novels, and a slice of potato peel pie?” Then watch this new US trailer for a film titled The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, based on the book of the same name, arriving on Netflix in the US this August. This is the latest film from veteran English director Mike Newell, who hasn’t done much since his 2012 adaptation of Great Expectations. The always-impressive Lily James stars in Guernsey as a young journalist who forms an unexpected bond with the residents of Guernsey Island (Google Maps) in the aftermath of WWII when she decides to write a book about their experiences during the war. The title is a reference to the book club that she befriends on the island. The cast includes Jessica Brown Findlay, Matthew Goode, Michiel Huisman, Katherine Parkinson, Glen Powell, Tom Courtenay, and Penelope Wilton. This looks emotional and charming, perfect for a nice cry watch. ›››
