Over a week after our story about the sound problems in some theaters for Christopher Nolan‘s Interstellar, neither Nolan’s camp or anyone from a major theater chain has offered any kind of explanation. It remains a mystery everywhere…except for one theater in upstate New York. They say it’s Christopher Nolan’s fault.
A patron of the Cinemark Tinseltown USA and IMAX in Rochester, NY tweeted an image of a sign posted outside theater. The sign says their sound system is fine and it was Christopher Nolan’s mix that’s the problem. Once news of the sign made it into the public, it was quickly taken down, but you can see it below.
Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter for the heads up and Twitter user @JShooke for this image.

According to the story, the sign was put up independently of Cinemark corporate and once they got wind of it, it was taken down. The last thing a major theater chain wants to do is piss off not only one of the most powerful filmmakers in Hollywood, but a major movie studio like Paramount.
A Cinemark spokeperson told The Hollywood Reporter the note was actually not correct and any sound problems were, in fact, due to a “hard drive problem” at the theater. Also of note, the theater with the problems was not their IMAX screen. It was their normal digital performance. Most of the early complaints about the film’s sound had to do with IMAX screenings so this suggests, if there is a problem, maybe it really is with the film’s mix. Remember in our article from November 5 that Nolan said this to the New York Times:
The most important thing, he said, was the volume; he wanted a lot of simple power, and all of it coming right out of the screen. He didn’t put a lot of surround in the mix, because he didn’t want a lot of distraction from the sides. (Outer space, he pointed out dryly, is not known for its ambient murmurs.)
So does this mean we get an official explanation of the Interstellar sound issues? Not likely.

Twenty years have passed since Lloyd and Harry left us in the original Dumb and Dumber. This weekend, they’re back with Dumb and Dumber To. The press got to see the film Wednesday night ahead of the Friday opening. The buzz is… well, find out after the jump by reading some Dumb and Dumber To reviews.

Let’s make one thing clear right off the bat: Not everyone is going to laugh at this movie. If you didn’t like Jim Carrey’s antics 20 years ago, odds are he’s not going to change your mind now. If goofy pratfalls, outrageous gross-out humor, and people doing absurd and profoundly foolish things to one another doesn’t sound appealing, save your money. If you’re too good to laugh at the sight of a cat pooping feathers, you should probably seek entertainment elsewhere. Don’t go see this movie because I liked it and then send me a tweet complaining it was stupid. I’ll tell you right now what I’d tweet back: “Yes, exactly.” This movie is stupendously stupid.
For fans of the original, which was a true high-water mark in Hollywood buffoonery, it may be tough to resist the charm of seeing these two actors play stupid again—and both Carrey and Daniels slip into their old chemistry with uncanny ease. But the buzz wears off quickly, harshed as it is by the increasingly sad spectacle of two fiftysomething movie stars acting like horny, leering teenagers. When, during a science conference, Harry and Lloyd shout “show us your tits” in unison at a young woman onstage, it becomes clear that the characters are now less guileless nincompoops than dirty old men. This time around, they’re gross (and dumb) in all the wrong ways.

D&D To visually checks off all of the first film’s hallmarks: the dog-groomer van, the upside-down breath spray moment, Petey the parakeet’s blind owner, the ”most annoying sound in the world.” The occasional clever sight gag proves the Farrellys are down but not quite out (a good one has Harry and Lloyd riding a bike together…that’s already mounted on a bus’ bike rack). But the material feels more desperate than funny (”yankos los pee-pee,” for example, is said to Mexican orderlies regarding a catheter mishap). Carrey and Daniels are forced to wring this middling material so hard they must have calluses. The ultimate sad realization is not that Dumb & Dumber To doesn’t match the original’s good-time quotient, but that it might not even be as good as—yikes—Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd.
What may have been subversive and irreverent in 1994, now just seems vulgar, hateful and tone-deaf — from their unabashedly misogynistic treatment of women (including Kathleen Turner as Penny’s mom) to their insidious racism. In the harsh light of 2014, their juvenile buffoonery looks embarrassing and lazy. It’s hard to imagine a new generation latching on to this brand of humor.

The cast for Bond 24 is coming together. We don’t know the actual title of the film yet, but with shooting set to commence in just a few weeks expect a splashy press conference with that detail and many other bits of information. In the meantime we’ll continue to assemble an understanding of the film from small bits of leaked information. The latest intel says that Christoph Waltz has signed for a role in the film. Just what he’ll do in Bond 24 is a mystery, however.
Daily Mail reporter Baz Bamigboye — who is consistently on point with Bond news — tweeted the casting info:
#CHRISTOPHWALTZ SIGNS ON FOR BOND24.Shoots early December Mexico Morocco Austria Italy & London.
— Baz Bamigboye (@BazBam) November 13, 2014
We’ll wait for info on his role, but we’d guess that Waltz is taking the bad-guy part that Chiwetel Ejiofor was previously in talks to inhabit. Waltz had been in talks for Pirates of the Caribbean 5, but moved on from that project. (Javier Bardem is reportedly playing that role now.)
As for the rest of the cast, Daniel Craig will play 007 a fourth time, and Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris and Ralph Fiennes are all reprising their Skyfall roles. In addition, Lea Seydoux and Dave Bautista have been said to be set for roles of a femme fatale and key henchman, respectively.
Sam Mendes returns to direct Bond 24. Edge of Tomorrow and Get On Up writer Jez Butterworth recently confirmed that he’s polishing the script (as he did for Skyfall). The draft was previously written by John Logan, with revisions from Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. Hoyte van Hoytema (Her, Interstellar) is shooting the film.
The film is set for release on October 23, 2015 in the UK and November 6, 2015 in the US.

Teases from The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Force Awakens and Episode VIII are all in this edition of Star Wars Bits. Below, read about the following:
IGN talked to one of the most popular actors out there today, Matthew McConaughey, and asked him if he’d be interested in a role in a Star Wars movie. As is his stock answer to any question of this nature (Marvel, DC, etc.), here was his response:
There’s not anything that I’m not open to embracing. I want it to be a quality script, I want a quality character. I want to be a little scared of it. I want to have new challenges. I want to do something, I want to find in a character where I can get to a point where I feel like nobody could be doing this but me. I’m going to have an original experience, an original take. That takes work to get to that point, but whatever the genre I’m wide open.
Check out this selection of tweets that includes Rian Johnson taking a suggestion for Star Wars Episode VIII.
Okay, that’s it. @rianjohnson just won all the things in my book. #StarWars pic.twitter.com/QzbVByzgRO

That would be awesome, no? But I think it’s already going to get taken care of in The Force Awakens.
Speaking of The Force Awakens, there may be a really, really, REALLY obscure Easter Egg for it in the new episodes of Star Wars Rebels. It’s a two-part episode called Empire Day and, Star Wars 7 News has uncovered a fan theory where some text in the episode translates to the release date of Star Wars comic that has some strong connections to lots of rumors regarding Daisy Ridley‘s character in The Force Awakens. The rumors do surmise that you know a few spoilers from the film though, so be aware if you go read it. Either way, it’s crazy interesting.
For the spoiler averse, here’s simply a clip from Empire Day!
Speaking of Rebels, voice actor Dee Bradley Baker has joined the cast of the show. Who he voices is a bit of a spoiler and, if you consider the fact he voiced all of the Clones in The Clone Wars, it creates an even crazier theory. You can read all the answers to those spoilers at Star Wars Underworld.
Some information has begun to come out for books tied to The Force Awakens. There aren’t any spoilers here, but it does confirm once we get to around September of 2015, there’s going to be no avoiding Star Wars spoilers anymore. SW 7 News has the full list including release dates.
Star Wars 7 News found a story where an ad is looking for a voice actor to mimic Chewbacca in a new Star Wars video game by Bioware scheduled for release next year. Now, is the team behind Mass Effect and Star Wars The Old Republic working on a new game? It sounds possible. Read more at that link.
The official Star Wars website revealed this variant Alex Ross cover to Marvel’s Star Wars: Darth Vader #1.

The sixth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, The Lost Missions, is now on Blu-ray and Yahoo has a bunch of cool concept art. Here is just a small selection:
Making Star Wars has a really interesting report from a source who was allowed to walk around the Star Wars: The Force Awakens sets at Pinewood Studios. He talks of several different sets, some that are sandy, some snowy, others rocky, nothing really spoilery but very interesting.
More spoilery is a description of an scene involving the arrival (or exit) of the Millennium Falcon from a new location. It sounds like it could either be from a scene in the movie, or just a mood piece. Either way, read more at Making Star Wars.
Finally, MTV posted this awesome infographic from Hasbro of all the Star Wars toys ever released. Lots of awesome info in here and lots of memories too. Click to blow it up.

![Try to ID This ‘Dumb & Dumber To’ Cameo [Video]](https://playerschoicegames.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Dumb-and-Dumber-To-Phone-550x295.jpg)

Bobby and Peter Farrelly return to 1994 this week with the release of Dumber & Dumber To. OK, technically the film takes place in the present day, and characters Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey) and Harry Dunne (Jeff Daniels) have definitely aged as time has marched on. But the film finds a way to pick up with the characters more or less as they were when we last saw them. They’re joined by plenty of new characters, and there’s one difficult-to-guess cameo among them. Check out a clip of the Dumb and Dumber To cameo below, and see if you can guess the actor.
We’ll keep the spoiler info to after the break. (Having seen the film, I can tell you that the ID of the actor isn’t any real spoiler, and he’s so disguised that many people will never guess who it is. Some might not even figure there’s a secret to guess in the first place.)
Check out this clip from Yahoo, and see if you can guess the ID of the new character.
Nope, it isn’t Jennifer Lawrence. (She was rumored for a cameo, which one source says was shot and cut, while the Farrellys say it never happened at all.) And while the getup make lead you to assume that the scene will end with a Bryan Cranston or Aaron Paul reveal, that’s also not the case. In fact, the guy’s face is never shown.
Under that safety suit is Bill Murray, who has already worked with the Farrellys multiple times in the past. In fact, Peter Farrelly told Vulture,
Since you never see Icepick, we were thinking, Hey, we should get someone who’s iconic to do it. And who’s more iconic than Bill Murray? And Bill’s a very good friend. Any time you have Bill Murray on the set, everybody on the crew is happy. So, we wanted to bring Bill in just so we could hang around him. Like everyone else in the world, I’m nuts about that guy.

Sony is getting into the cloud-based TV game via a new PlayStation streaming service called Vue. Planned for an invite-only soft launch in New York City this year, the service will be available to PlayStation 3 and 4 users in 2015. Vue is intended as a competitor to cable, with agreements in place to deliver shows from 75 major network providers. Perhaps most important to cord-cutters, Vue will stream live television.
Sony’s press release has details on Vue, for which Sony has made deals with networks such as Viacom companies CBS, MTV, and Comedy Central, and also with Fox, NBC, and their subsidies. There’s no deal yet with ABC and Disney, which cuts out a lot of potential content (notably from ESPN). That means Vue won’t be a one-tool-fits-all service, at least not at the outset. But users will be able to stream live TV, access On Demand content, and review the last three days of broadcast content.
You’ll need a PlayStation Plus account to get into the NYC beta which launches at the end of the month, but by first quarter 2015 Vue should be available across the PlayStation Network. There’s also word of an iOS app in development.
From the press release:
Removing Barriers between Viewers and Content
PlayStation™Vue leverages the power of the cloud to combine the live, on-demand, and catch-up TV content viewers love with a powerful user interface that delivers unprecedented personalization and simplicity.
The Best Content on TV
During the invite-only beta, PlayStation™Vue will initially offer around 75 channels per market from the following major programmers, including local broadcast stations, so that viewers can enjoy their favorite movies, TV shows, and sports programs.
The following is a list of our current network partners, with additional partners to be announced in the future:
Transparent Pricing with No Commitments
Pricing and packaging details will be revealed at commercial launch but PlayStation™Vue is changing the rules for how people pay for subscription TV.
Availability
PlayStation™Vue will begin an invite only beta preview during November for select PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®3 owners, with a phased rollout starting in New York followed later by Chicago, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles. The service will also become available on iPad® shortly thereafter, and later on more Sony and non-Sony devices.
PlayStation™Vue will launch commercially during the first quarter of 2015.
