Universal Partners with Barbasol for 'Jurassic World' Shaving Cream

    Barbasol

Brilliant! A fine example of when Hollywood marketing actually turns out okay. Universal has partnered with shaving cream manufacturer Barbasol for a special edition shaving cream can to promote the release of Jurassic World. Why? Well, we all know why! One of the most iconic and unforgettable scenes in the original Jurassic Park involves Dennis being given a special Barbasol can that contains storage racks for dinosaur embryos. Fans have replicated the prop and created working versions they’ve sold on Ebay, but now Barbasol is making Jurassic World cans themselves and they’ve gone all out. To celebrate, they’ve launched an entire marketing campaign complete with photos and a video. A Secret Has Been Left Behind… ›››

  • Anne Hathaway is Robert De Niro's Boss in First 'The Intern' Trailer

Anne Hathaway is Robert De Niro's Boss in First 'The Intern' Trailer

    The Intern Trailer

“It’s moments like this you know you need someone you can count on.” Warner Bros has debuted the first trailer for The Intern, a comedy about a young CEO who takes on an old intern. Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro star, with Hathaway playing the CEO and De Niro playing the intern at her company. In addition: Adam DeVine, Rene Russo, Anders Holm and Andrew Rannells pop up here and there, too. As cheesy as this sounds, I actually think it looks pretty good, it’s charming. It’s not overly snarky about the “old dude doesn’t get young modern world” stuff, and it has some sentimentality to it that seems to work well. I saw even more footage at CinemaCon, and I might say don’t completely ignore this one. Give it a shot. ›››

    The Tribe Trailer

Love and Hate Need No Translation. Drafthouse Films has debuted a trailer for their upcoming release of Myroslav Slaboshpytskiy’s The Tribe – an award-winning, highly-acclaimed, powerful film from Ukraine that is presented entirely in sign language without any subtitles. Wondering what that’s like? Or want to get a feel for the very edgy, very dark topics the film covers? Then give this trailer a look, and hopefully you’ll take a chance on seeing this film. One of the critic quotes included the trailer comes from friend of the site Raffi Asdourian of The Film Stage, who wrote in his review that “the scope and ambition of the narrative propels it to something more grandiose” and that it’s a “groundbreaking, one-of-a-kind experience”. Indeed. ›››

See the Long-Lost Short Film 'Black Angel' That Played Before 'Empire'

    Black Angel

A long time ago, in a cinema far, far away, this short film played before Empire Strikes Back, and now it has been rediscovered. No seriously, that’s the story behind this. Back in 1980, George Lucas commissioned his art director, Roger J. Christian, to make a short film that would show before his Star Wars sequel The Empire Strikes Back. That short was called Black Angel, sort of a classic fantasy about a lone warrior fighting a dark force. It only played in a few hundred UK cinemas, but it was hugely influential anyway. And even though all the prints were thought to be lost, Christian has restored and released the full 25-minute short Black Angel online – seen below. It’s actually pretty good, and has some very iconic shots in it. Enjoy. ›››

Watch: Mario Lopez Interviews Ryan Reynolds on the 'Deadpool' Set

    Deadpool Set Interview

There are very, very few times we would ever even consider posting anything from “Extra”, but this is one of those times. “Extra” host Mario Lopez traveled up to Vancouver to visit the set of the Deadpool movie, which is currently filming, and sat down for a one-on-one chat with star Ryan Reynolds. Yes, this sounds cheesy, but because it’s Deadpool and he breaks the fourth wall and messes around with everyone, there’s some fun elements to this otherwise bland “Extra” segment. It’s also cool to see Ryan so excited to be talking about finally making an R-rated Deadpool movie. I’m glad they’re embracing the character in all his glory. ›››

Xbox One Owners Can Play Madden NFL 16 Before Everyone Else

Subscribers typically get to play upcoming EA games five days before their public launch, but EA has not announced specifics around Madden yet.

  • Elder Scrolls Online Xbox One/PS4 Locks Out People Who Buy Used or Rent

Elder Scrolls Online Xbox One/PS4 Locks Out People Who Buy Used or Rent

Developer Zenimax Online Studios has confirmed that disc-based copies of The Elder Scrolls Online for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will require users to register a unique code. Thus, people who buy a second-hand copy or rent the MMORPG will be locked out.

“You will need a unique game registration code in order to play the game, and used copies will not be eligible to receive a key if the code has already been redeemed,” a developer said in the game’s forums.

This is much the same way that it works on PC.

“The code included in the box is to activate your ESOTU account and the discs are for installation purposes,” Zenimax said. “If you own the disc but don’t have a key, you’ll be able to install the game and reach the login screen, but you won’t be able to log in and access the game without an active ESOTU account.”

Since The Elder Scrolls Online has not yet been released for consoles, it remains to be seen how rental companies like Gamefly and Red Box, along with retailers like GameStop and Best Buy, will handle this situation. You would hope they would alert shoppers to the game’s unique scenario.

We’ll have more information as it becomes available.

The Elder Scrolls Online was released in 2014 for PC, and launches for Xbox One and PS4 next month. In January, publisher Bethesda announced that the MMO was doing away with mandatory subscription fees. The game is not entirely free-to-play, as users still need to pay once to buy it, but the $15/month fee is no longer required. Alongside this announcement, Bethesda rebranded the game Tamriel Unlimited.

  • UK Games Deals: PlayStation 4, Witcher 3, Bloodborne for £320

UK supermarket chain Tesco has launched a new PlayStation 4 bundle that features the console, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Bloodborne for £319.

Alternatively, shoppers can opt for the PlayStation 4 console, The Witcher 3, and £25 PSN card for £319. A cheaper bundle with the console and The Witcher 3 for £299 is also available.

Although bundles featuring these exact games aren’t currently available elsewhere, single-game PS4 bundles on Amazon UK, such as the Grand Theft Auto V and Batman: Arkham Knight bundles, are in the range of £350.

The PlayStation 4 console on its own costs £303 on Amazon UK.

The two games on offer in Tesco’s bundles have received critical acclaim for GameSpot.

In our Bloodborne review we said the game’s “excellent action, beautiful artistry, and religious melodrama make it another must-play,” awarding it a score of 9.

In our Witcher 3: Wild Hunt review we awarded the game a 10 and said it’s “one of the best games ever made.”

The PlayStation 4 is the second-fastest selling console in the UK since hardware sales records began, having sold one million sales after 42 weeks of trading.

A year after its launch, we reviewed the PlayStation 4 to find out whether it’s the new-gen system to buy.

  • Walking Dead Season 3 Won't Arrive in 2015

The third season of TellTale’s The Walking Dead episodic game series will not be released in 2015, its developer has confirmed.

TellTale’s director of PR, Job Stauffer, confirmed the news, but added that “what [he is] seeing this week will be, and it is insanely cool.”

TellTale previously said that there may be something new to play in its Walking Dead series before the new season is officially released. It is likely that Stauffer is referring to this in his Tweet.

The Walking Dead: 400 Days was released in the space between the first and second seasons of the game, which means it is possible that TellTale is planning a similar intermediary between season two and three, though this is only speculation.

TellTale is currently working on Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands series, as well as a game based on Minecraft.

Telltale Games and Marvel Games have also announced a partnership, the results of which is due in 2017.
