  • Battlefield 1: Can Horses Stand on Planes?

YouTube’s DefendTheHouse is back with new “Mythbusters” videos, the latest being for EA’s recently released World War I shooter Battlefield 1.

Across two videos numerous myths are tested, like if a horse can stand on top of a plane, if a human character can stand on top of a moving plane, if a sniper shield can protect you from grenade damage, and if you can land a plane on the dreadnought. Other myths tested include whether or not syringes can damage enemies, if you can stand on observation balloons, and if you can stand on a zeppelin as it’s going down. We won’t spoil the results for you. As usual, the music selections are excellent. Check out the videos below (via Game Informer).

You can check out all of DefendTheHouse’s Mythbusters videos–including those for Star Wars: Battlefront and Fallout 4here on YouTube.

In other news about Battlefield 1, a new patch came out this week that fixes bugs and more. You can see the full patch notes here. Additionally, players have discovered a zeppelin glitch that turns the airships into tornadoes of fire.

    GameSpot’s Battlefield 1 review scored the game a 9/10.

“With Battlefield 1, EA and DICE have proven the viability of World War I as a time period worth revisiting in first-person shooters,” reviewer Miguel Concepcion said. “It brings into focus countries and nationalities that do not exist today while also shedding light on how the outcome of that war has shaped our lives. As World War II shooters proved many years ago, no game can truly capture the entirety of a global conflict. This is why the focused structure of the War Stories anthology works well. Moreover, Operations succeeds as an effective educational primer on the battles that this gripping adversarial mode are based on. Battlefield 1 is just an introduction to one of the deadliest world events in history, but it is an outstanding, feature-rich package in both its emotional stories and strong multiplayer.”

Sega Making Video Games for 2020 Summer Olympics

Sonic the Hedgehog and Total War publisher Sega has announced that it’s reached an exclusive agreement with the International Olympic Committee’s licensing unit to make games for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

  • Borderlands: The Handsome Collection Currently Free on European Xbox Store

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is currently free to download for the Xbox One in Europe. To grab it, head over to the Microsoft store and you can add it to your account.

It’s unclear why the title is available for free and, given that it has been available for a few hours now, it doesn’t seem to be a mistake. The most likely explanation is that it is part of the Free Play Days, as pointed out in this NeoGAF post. Microsoft hasn’t officially announced that Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is part of Free Play Days, however.

Additionally, it doesn’t look like it is available to download for free on the US Microsoft store. Access to games that are part of the Free Play Days promotion is usually revoked after a specified period, so we wouldn’t get too attached to that digital copy of Borderlands: The Handsome Collection.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is an upgraded compilation that features Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. In GameSpot’s review it was awarded an 8/10.

“Let’s be clear: You don’t have to be Handsome Jack’s number-one fan to appreciate Borderlands: The Handsome Collection. But even if you’re not, you will still find an impressive archive, chock full of dozens upon dozens of hours of laughter and exciting combat,” said Cameron Woolsey.

“Even considering issues presented by Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, The Handsome Collection is still a great compilation, allowing you to witness not only Jack’s tale, but play a major role in shaping the history of Pandora itself, along with its lonely moon. And that is a story that Marcus may gladly tell again someday.”

  • Star Wars: The Force Awakens Director is Secretly Producing Cloverfield 3

J.J. Abrams, director of 2009’s Star Trek reboot and, more recently, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, has been working on a new entry in his cult sci-fi series Cloverfield. However, the movie has been in production under the title “God Particle.

According to The Wrap, God Particle is connected to Cloverfieldand Paramount Pictures, along with Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions, are developing additional films that will feed into this universe. The site reports that Paramount hopes to release a new movie tied to the Cloverfield shared universe every year.

Paramount has not officially announced God Particle as a Cloverfield tie-in as of yet. The movie is directed by Julius Onah, who has worked on a number of shorts films, and Abrams is serving as producer. It follows a team of astronauts that are forced to fight for survival when a discovery alters reality.

Earlier this year Paramount released 10 Cloverfield Lane, starring John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Although it was primarily a thriller in which Winstead’s character finds herself held captive by a strange, possible crazy man, it also had hooks into the Cloverfield universe.

10 Cloverfield Lane was directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who also previously worked on shorts, including Portal: No Escape, which is set in Valve’s Portal universe. He was also known for being one of the three hosts of Revision 3’s Totally Rad Show.

Around the same time Abrams was promoting 10 Cloverfield Lane, he hinted at a possible third movie in the Cloverfield universe in an interview with EW.

“This is just this movie, and it’s only two films that we’re talking about right now,” Abrams said, referring to the connection between Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane. “There is something else that we’d like to do, and hopefully we’ll get a shot,” he added.

God Particle is set for release on February 24, 2017.
