  • Watch Dogs 2's First DLC Pushed Back Due to Time Spent on Patches

Watch Dogs 2 downloadable content that was scheduled to arrive early next week will now be coming later in the month, Ubisoft announced today. This is due to the unexpected time that was spent working on patches after the game’s seamless multiplayer mode had to be disabled prior to launch.

Most recently, Watch Dogs 2 received a patch at the end of November that continued weeks of work resolving lingering issues, particularly related to multiplayer. “This and previous patches were an important step towards stabilizing Watch Dogs 2’s seamless multiplayer functionality, and other core online features, before releasing any new multiplayer content,” Ubisoft said in a blog post today. “Since these updates required additional development resources, we’ve made the decision to adjust our release schedule for that new content.”

As previously detailed, the T-Bone content bundle was slated for release on December 13 for PS4 (all DLC comes to PS4 first). Instead, it’ll now arrive on December 22 (or December 26 for those in Japan). Xbox One and PC players will see it launch just over a month later, on January 24.

The situation is somewhat reminiscent of another Ubisoft game, The Division, albeit on a smaller scale. In that case, Ubisoft spent time addressing fan feedback, which resulted in the second and third DLC packs being delayed. It’s unknown if the release slate for subsequent Watch Dogs 2 DLC has been affected.

Here’s how Ubisoft describes the T-Bone bundle: “Players will get the style and the swagger of legendary hacker Raymond ‘T-Bone’ Kenney with his truck and outfit and discover Mayhem, a new co-op difficulty level that will pit players against a new enemy archetype armed with advanced weaponry.”

Ahead of the DLC, a special T-Bone Chaos event will begin on December 19. It runs for four weeks and is free to all players, providing a “themed challenge” every week. You’ll be able to earn in-game money and “unique event rewards, like new car skins or a new bag.”

  • First Official Trailers for 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' with Tom Holland

First Official Trailers for 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' with Tom Holland

    Spider-Man: Homecoming Trailer

“Stay close to the ground. And stay out of trouble.” Sony has revealed the first official trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, directed by Jon Watts, produced by Marvel Studios. Tom Holland stars as (the new) Peter Parker, who was first introduced in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War this summer with a small role near the end of the movie. The full cast includes Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Michael Keaton as the villain The Vulture, plus Donald Glover, Robert Downey Jr., Martin Starr, Logan Marshall-Green, Angourie Rice, Hannibal Buress, and Zendaya. This does look much better than the last few Spidey movies, but I’m remaining cautiously optimistic for now. Enjoy! ›››

  • Paramount Sets a Mystery IMAX 'Cloverfield Movie' for October 2017

Paramount Sets a Mystery IMAX 'Cloverfield Movie' for October 2017

    Cloverfield Movie

Paramount is hiding something. According to various sources, Paramount has scheduled a new Cloverfield movie to open in theaters on October 27th, 2017. The only information available is that the project is currently titled Cloverfield Movie (IMAX), meaning it will be opening on IMAX screens next Halloween weekend. As for what exactly it is? We’re not sure. Some are saying this is the new title/new release date for God Particle, an original sci-fi movie produced by Bad Robot that was revealed earlier this year to be the follow-up to 10 Cloverfield Lane. Others are speculating that perhaps Paramount has some tricks up their sleeves, and is delaying the release of God Particle for the time being. We have to wait to find out the truth. ›››

Watch: Lovely Animated Short 'The Fisherman' from Luke Saunders

    The Fisherman Short Film

What a beautiful animated short film. The Fisherman is a short created and animated by Luke Saunders, featuring a very unique visual style telling a heartfelt story about family and remembering our loved ones. The brief description of the film explains that “a series of serendipitous events lead to a chance encounter and the fulfilling of an old man’s last earthly desire.” This is one of those out-of-nowhere fantastic short films that I encourage everyone to just stop and watch without reading too much about it beforehand, as the simplicity of it makes it more impactful in the end. I also just love the animation style and music, I want to see more shorts made like this. Thanks to the sci-fi network Dust for premiering this. Watch it in full below. ›››

Watch: Full Trailer for Doug Liman's Iraq War Sniper Thriller 'The Wall'

    The Wall Trailer

“Something’s not right…” Amazon Studios & Roadside Attractions have released the first official trailer for an action thriller titled The Wall, directed by Doug Liman (known for The Bourne Identity, Go, Edge of Tomorrow). The film stars Aaron Taylor Johnson and John Cena as a pair of soldiers pinned down near a wall by an Iraqi sniper. It’s an intriguing contained thriller set almost entirely in one place, as the two must figure out how to escape and survive. The film also stars Laith Nakli. If this wasn’t directed by Doug Liman, I might not be as interested but Liman is a talented action director, and knows how to create tension in his films. This looks impressive, the radio angle mixes things up even more, I’m curious about seeing it. ›››

Official Trailer for Emily Hagins' 'Coin Heist' Film Coming to Netflix

    Coin Heist Trailer

“You realize if this doesn’t go perfectly, we are all going to jail.” Netflix has debuted a trailer for the film Coin Heist, the latest little indie from young filmmaker Emily Hagins out of Austin. We’ve featured her work before, including her most recent film before this, titled Grow Up Tony Phillips. Coin Heist is indeed about a “coin heist” – four different high school kids decide to team up and figure out a way to break into the U.S. Mint and pay off a big debt by planting flawed coins. The cast includes Alex Saxon, Alexis G. Zall, Sasha Pieterse, Jay Walker, Blanche Baker, David W. Thompson and Elijah Boothe. This looks like it might be fun, and I always like supporting talented young filmmakers like Emily. Give it a look below. ›››

  • Another Two Games Getting PS4 Pro Updates

Resogun and Farming Simulator 17 are the two latest games to get PS4 Pro support patched in. The update for Farming Simulator is out now, while Resogun’s upgrade will be available “soon enough,” according to its developer Housemarque.

Farming Simulator 17 players can choose from three modes. Ultra HD runs at 4K resolution with an unconfirmed frame rate; Quad HD displays the game at 1440p and 60 FPS; or just HD mode, which is the lowest resolution mode at 1080p, but it does come with a 60 FPS and an improved draw distance.

Housemarque did not detail what Resogun’s PS4 Pro patch will include. The company did announce a new game called Nex Machina at PSX though–check out the reveal trailer here.

We enjoyed Resogun here at GameSpot, with critic Peter Brown awarding it an 8. For more, check out our full Resogun review. Alternatively, take a look at the full list of every PS4 Pro game that is and isn’t getting an upgrade.

  • Super Mario Run Requires Constant Internet Connection

You’ll need a stable internet connection to play Super Mario Run, says Nintendo.

Speaking to Mashable, Nintendo director Shigeru Miyamoto said, “We view our software as being a very important asset for us. And also for consumers who are purchasing the game, we want to make sure that we’re able to offer it to them in a way that the software is secure, and that they’re able to play it in a stable environment.

“We wanted to be able to leverage that network connection … in a way that keeps the software secure,” he continued.

When asked to clarify whether by “security,” Miyamoto was referring to the risk of piracy, the Mario creator replied, “That’s correct.”

He went on to say that security was at least partly why Nintendo decided to launch Super Mario Run for iOS on December 15, well before the Android release in 2017, before explaining why all three game modes require an internet connection: “We had thought at one point that it would be nice to have the World Tour [story] mode available standalone, to be able to play without that connection. But then the challenge is when that’s operating in a standalone mode, it actually complicates the connection back to the Toad Rally and Kingdom modes.”

In other Super Mario Run news, we now know that other Mushroom Kingdom universe characters will be unlockable in-game, though it’s unclear if those will lie behind the $10 ‘unlock all content’ paywall.

  • PewDiePie Will Delete His YouTube Channel Today

Felix ‘PewDiePie’ Kjellberg has vowed to delete his YouTube channel at 5 PM UK time on December 9.

Kjellberg previously published a video lamenting problems with the way YouTube surfaces content. Recent changes to the platform have led to the “Recommended” feed being given more prominence than a user’s subscription feed, which has been relegated to a sidebar option.

Many well-known YouTubers such as h3h3 Productions have discussed how this has resulted in a drop in activity and viewership since users aren’t able to immediately tell when the channels they are subscribed to have published content. In some other cases people have also been unsubscribed from content creators inexplicably.

He also noted the shift away from personalities in favour of trending videos, which often feature clickbait titles or thumbnails and diminish the value of personality-led content. These supposedly viral videos have been given more exposure on the front page of YouTube and in areas where videos are suggested.

“It feels like a kick in the face when they make changes and don’t tell anyone about it,” Kjellber said. “Because this site means so much to YouTubers like me and everyone else … It’s something that we worked really hard on and I don’t think they understand.

“And like I said, this is not just affecting me, it’s affecting other YouTubers and creators that you care about. YouTube is trying to kill my channel. It’s clear if you watch my analytics, it’s all going down there and I think my videos are better. I think they’re really funny and it seems that you guys enjoy them as well so it’s a shame that it’s going in this direction.”

Kjellberg’s solution is to start from scratch: “The only way to stop my channel from dying is, I know you’re going to think I’m joking right now, but I’m going to delete my channel. I swear to you, at 50 million subs, a huge landmark coming up, a huge deal, never been done before, no-one’s even close, I am deleting my channel.

“I will delete my channel once PewDiePie hits 50 million. I think it’s gonna be pretty fun, I’m excited to delete my channel and start fresh with a new shitty channel probably. I won’t quit YouTube, I’ll just delete the channel.”

Understandably, the response to Kjellberg’s decision has been a mixture of skepticism and disbelief, given that he has spent six years building the audience is the most well known YouTuber in the world. However, there may be method to the madness as, by starting a brand new channel, he would essentially cull the dormant and inactive subscribers. In turn, this would mean his new followership would only be people actively engaging with his content, which improves the visibility of his videos on YouTube.
