Meet the hot, young racers that Lightning is going up against. Disney has released a fun new teaser trailer for Pixar’s Cars 3, introducing two of the new villains in the upcoming sequel hitting theaters this summer. The racecar Lightning McQueen, voiced by Owen Wilson, is back again and this time he must prove he’s still relevant when a “new generation of blazing-fast racers” threatens to push him out. The very first teaser trailer was quite dramatic – showing a big crash about to happen. The two new bad boy cars include Jackson Storm, voiced by Armie Hammer, and Cruz Ramirez, voiced by Cristela Alonzo – revealed by EW.com. Both of them get short little video introductions in this fun teaser. I’m still waiting to see more real footage. ›››

“It’s okay to feel a little crazy… But it’s not fair to you to have to do it all by yourself.” Strand Releasing has debuted a trailer for the film Lovesong, an indie drama that premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival last year. Lovesong is the latest film from Korean-American director So-yong Kim, starring Riley Keough and Jena Malone as two close friends who end up getting even closer when they go on a roadtrip together just before one of them is getting married. The cast includes Brooklyn Decker, fellow filmmaker Cary Fukunaga, Juliet Fitzpatrick, Neal Huff, Ryan Eggold, Marshall Chapman & Amy Seimetz. This trailer has a nice feel to it, and this seems like it might be worth catching for these two lead performances. ›››

“This is not a movie, this is life.” The first trailer has debuted for an indie comedy titled All Nighter, the second feature from director Gavin Wiesen, who last directed a film titled Homework (which was retitled to The Art of Getting By). All Nighter stars J.K. Simmons as a workaholic father who decides to visit his daughter in LA, only to discover she’s missing. He find her ex-boyfriend and ends up searching for her with him. Emile Hirsch is the ex, a banjo-playing goofball. The full cast includes Analeigh Tipton, Kristen Schaal, Taran Killam and Stephanie Allynne. This looks like a wild night of fun, I just hope it’s good. ›››

Saban Films has debuted an official US trailer for the zombie horror adaptation The Girl with All the Gifts, which already opened in the UK last year. The story is about a girl, named Melanie, who is being kept at a military base that is one of the only remaining safe havens in a zombie apocalypse. When the base it overtaken, she goes on the run with a few other people, attempting to survive in a hostile world. The movie stars Sennia Nanua as Melanie, along with Gemma Arterton, Glenn Close and Paddy Considine. I saw this film at a genre festival in Berlin last year and really enjoyed it, one of the most refreshingly original updates to the zombie genre I’ve seen in a while. I highly recommend it, for the performances alone. This US trailer contains some spoilers and crops the footage, but the UK trailer is still available to watch. Have fun. ›››

The next set of 2016 awards nominees have been revealed. The WGA Awards nominations were unveiled today, featuring a very interesting set of films. Many of these are my favorite movies of the year anyway – between Damien Chazelle’s La La Land, and Eric Heisserer’s Arrival, and Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight, we’re pretty much set. But they also nominated a few other underrated scripts including Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick’s Deadpool, Taylor Sheridan’s fantastic crime thriller Hell or High Water, as well as Allison Schroeder and Theodore Melfi’s Hidden Figures. As usual with the WGA, I’m impressed by the nominees, as the WGA is less about popularity and truly about quality. Check out the full list of film nominees below. ›››

One of our favorite movies of 2016 is Arrival, the science fiction thriller from Denis Villeneuve. Aside from a brilliant script by Eric Heisserer, the film contains stunning visuals, in part thanks to cinematographer Bradford Young, but also thanks to some excellent VFX work. For anyone curious to see how they brought everything to life, including the giant spaceship and their activity inside of it, Oblique FX has released a demo reel highlighting their work. Another VFX company, called RodeoFX, has also launched a page with photos showing before-after shots. It’s amazing to see how much of this was filmed with blue screen, yet it feels so real. Seriously impressive. Always so cool to see these kind of VFX breakdowns for big sci-fi movies. ›››

Developer Nightdive Studios has released a new trailer for the remaster of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, spotlighting the game’s newly released level editor.
Released in late December, the level editor allows players to create and tweak maps and then share their levels with the community via the Steam Workshop. Players can add fog, particles, and other lighting effects to spruce up their creations. The level editor is free and a detailed manual is available.
If you haven’t picked up the Turok remaster, now is a good time to jump in. It is currently discounted to just $5 as part of a Steam Daily Deal that started yesterday–you have until 10 AM PT to pick it up for that lower price. The game is also available on GOG and the Humble Store.
The Turok remasterfeatures enhanced graphics and a series of other improvements. A remastered version of Turok 2: Seeds of Evil is also in the works and may include multiplayer. Both of these games are reportedly headed to Xbox One at some point in the future.
Nightdive has also acquired the rights to the System Shock franchise. It is currently bringing the series back with the in-development System Shock 3.

Saul Goodman is heading back to screens in 2017. A short teaser for the third season of the Breaking Bad spinoff Better Call Saul has been released, and it shows that Bob Odenkirk’s lawyer–real name Jimmy McGill–has found himself on the wrong wide of the law. Check it out below:
While the new season does not yet have a confirmed premiere date, the teaser states that it will arrive in Spring. Like the previous two seasons, it will screen on AMC in the US. Seasons 1 and 2 screened internationally on Netflix each week, but it has not yet been confirmed if this will be the case with Season 3.
Better Call Saul was created by Breaking Bad showrunner Vince Gilligan after that show finished in 2013. The series charts the early legal career of McGill and co-stars Jonathan Banks, who reprises his role of tough guy Mike Ehrmantraut. It also features Michael McKean, Rhea Seehorn, and Patrick Fabian. Odenkirk played the role in four seasons of Breaking Bad.
In November last year, AMC’s Charlie Coller spoke about the decision to commission a third Season. “What Vince, Peter [Gould, co-creator], Bob, and the entire team have accomplished with Better Call Saul is truly rare and remarkable,” he said. “They have taken one of the most iconic, immersive, and fan-obsessive shows in television history and created a prequel that stands on its own.
“Watching Jimmy McGill’s thoughtful, melodic, and morally flexible transformation into Saul Goodman is entertaining and delighting millions of fans, whether their starting point was Breaking Bad or not. This series has its own feel, pace, and sensibility and we can’t wait to see what this incredibly talented group comes up with next in Season 3.”
