Sony’s Poor PS5 Backwards Compatibility Clarity Prompts Damning Headlines

PlayStation 5 will only play 2.5 per cent of the PlayStation 4’s library – or at least that’s the damning statement that Yahoo, via Business Insider, has published today. Sony’s lack of clarity on PS5’s backwards compatibility has raised more questions than it’s answered, and the organisation’s inability to put out fires has left it facing a potential publicity disaster.

We’ve attempted to get a comment out of the company, but we’re yet to hear anything back. Our understanding is that the PS5 will play the vast majority of PS4 titles, but it’s focused first and foremost on testing the top 100 releases. It’s unclear whether this particular trial pertains to PS5’s boost mode or not, but the organisation’s clear on the PlayStation Blog that more legacy software will be supported eventually.
