If you haven’t seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens yet, don’t watch this video. It’s not really a spoiler – it’s a small nostalgic moment hidden in the middle of the movie. I’m not going to reveal any more details about the context or if it means anything (it probably doesn’t, just a fun nod). If you have seen it, then dive in. This video features Adam Savage from Tested visiting FX legend Phil Tippett at his studio to see how he (re)created the Holochess figures using stop-motion animation. I love the original Holochess scene in A New Hope, and enjoyed this nostalgic reference in the new movie. It’s also amusing to see these guys going crazy over practical effects work.
