21 Years Later, System Shock Gets PC Enhanced Edition

1994’s System Shock, the FPS with RPG elements designed by a team at Looking Glass that included Ken Levine (who went on to make BioShock), is coming back with a new, enhanced version for PC. Restoration company Night Dive Studios, which is also working on the updated versions of Turok and Turok 2, developed System Shock: Enhanced Edition, which is available now through The Witcher developer CD Projekt’s GOG.com.

Some of the new features included with the Enhanced Edition include mouselook and widescreen (854×480). The game also supports resolutions up to 1024×768, which is much better than the original 640×480. In addition, players can look forward to a “more intuitive” inventory and item management system, as well as remappable controls and a variety of bug fixes.

System Shock: Enhanced Edition is available today from GOG for $8, a 20 percent discount. A bundle that includes the Enhanced Edition and sequel System Shock 2 is also available at a 20 percent markdown ($18). As with all games sold on GOG, there is no DRM whatsoever. The discount runs through September 29.
