Last year, Need for Speed was one of the worst films I saw in 2014. As someone who can enjoy plenty of mindless, fun action, as evidence by my love of Furious 7 last weekend, I found the video game adaptation to be boring, poorly written and acted just as badly. Not even Michael Keaton could make the proceedings interesting. But the film pulled in $200 million at the box office, likely due to the presence of the video game’s fans and those who liked Aaron Paul on “Breaking Bad,” and apparently that’s enough to warrant a sequel.
