It looks like Machete is going to be the joke that just won’t die. The first feature film debuted in 2010 after a faux trailer that came with Robert Rodriguez‘s half of the Grindhouse double feature sparked some interest among exploitation fans. And then the end of that first parody, there was a tease for a sequel, which inexplicably ended up in front of cameras and on the big screen in 2013 in the form of Machete Kills. It bombed at the box office hard, and while Mel Gibson was a fun addition to the cast, it started to feel like the joke had run its course.
