First Look: Mark Wahlberg Gets Wet in ‘Ted 2′; Tina Fey and Amy Poehler Hang Out in ‘Sisters’

Ted 2 may not have the name-brand recognition of an Avengers or the budget of a Star Wars, but it is the only sequel of 2015 that has a foul-mouthed teddy bear as one of its leads. The first image from the new comedy shows said teddy bear (voiced by Seth MacFarlane) with his best friend John (Mark Wahlberg), preparing to for a swim.

The relationship at the heart of Sisters is less unusual, but no less intriguing. Real-life BFFs / perennial Golden Globes co-hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler star as grown-up siblings plotting one last epic house party. Hit the jump for the first looks at Ted 2 and Sisters

EW debuted the new images from Ted 2 and Sisters.

Wahlberg has said Ted 2 will see John and Ted acting “crazier than ever.” The plot is being kept under wraps for now, but writer/director/star MacFarlane has confirmed one thing that won’t happen: Ted isn’t making any plush friends. “He’s the only one of his kind who can talk,” he said.

Morgan Freeman steps in as a famous civil rights lawyer who helps Ted take care of some legal issues. Amanda Seyfried replaces Mila Kunis as Wahlberg’s love interest. MacFarlane also has a crazy supporting cast lined up including Dennis Haysbert, Liam Neeson, and John Slattery. Ted 2 will land in theaters June 26, 2015.

As for Sisters (formerly titled The Nest), Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) directs the comedy about two estranged siblings who decide to host one last party before their parents sell off their childhood home. “People our age need a hardcore house party more than a 17-year-old,” said Fey. “What are they cutting loose from?”

Sisters is so far the only release brave enough to go against Star Wars: The Force Awakens on December 18, 2015. However, Poehler relishes the challenge. “We said we’d only do the movie if it opened against Star Wars,” she said. “We’re not scared. It’s what gets us up in the morning: We are going to f—ing crush Star Wars.”

So what if January 1 is still a couple of weeks away? Get an early start on celebrating the New Year with this big batch of new photos from some of 2015′s most highly anticipated releases, including Jurassic World, Mad Max: Fury Road, Furious 7, Insurgent, Inside Out, The Walk, and Chappie.

    EW unveiled the new photos.

    EW Furious 7

    In order, we have:

    • Chappie (March 6), Neill Blomkamp‘s original sci-fi about a police robot (Sharlto Copley via the magic of mo-cap) who gains sentience and, apparently, some very questionable taste in accessories. Dev Patel plays the scientist who rebooted him.
    • Insurgent (March 20), the sequel to Divergent, one of this year’s several dystopian YA hits. Shailene Woodley once again stars as Tris, a teen hero who’s a special snowflake because she has more than one personality trait.
    • Furious 7 (April 3), the next installment of the inconsistently titled Fast and the Furious franchise. Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson return, and it’s the last outing with the gang for the late Paul Walker. James Wan directs.
    • Inside Out (June 19), an animated adventure by Pixar set inside the mind of a young girl. Amy Poehler voices Joy (pictured), one of several emotions working together in the girl’s emotional HQ. Pete Docter directs.
    • The Walk (October 2), Robert Zemeckis‘ live-action portrayal of the famous Twin Towers high-wire walk performed by Philippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) in 1975. Ben Kingsley and Charlotte Le Bon also star.
    • Jurassic World (June 12), the Colin Trevorrow-directed sequel to the iconic sci-fi franchise. The characters in this one apparently didn’t learn from the first Jurassic Park, because they decide to open a dino-themed park. Starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.
    • Mad Max: Fury Road (May 15), the long-awaited sequel by George Miller. Tom Hardy plays the title character, who meets Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) in an apocalyptic future. That might be Furiosa’s acolyte Nux (Nicholas Hoult) slung over his shoulder.

There’s tons more where that came from at EW, so click over there to check out the full gallery.

  • Assassin's Creed Creator Reveals AAA "Historical-Action-Survival" Game

Assassin's Creed Creator Reveals AAA "Historical-Action-Survival" Game

The first game from Panache Digital Games, the new Canadian studio founded by Assassin’s Creed creator Patrice Desilets, will be a third-person AAA “historical-action-survival” game. Desilets opened his new studio in November, but this is the first time we’re hearing anything official about what it’s working on.

“Indeed AAA games, I believe in them,” Desilets said in a press release obtained by Game Informer. “I believe wholeheartedly that this medium we call ‘video games’ can be a positive force for change in our society and that AAA quality gaming experiences have unmatched strength to achieve this.”

That’s not a lot to go on, but it does gives us an overview of what Desilets has in mind.

Desilets did not share a name for Panache’s first game, nor did he confirm if he was successful in his attempts to buy back the rights to his Amsterdam-set 1666 game from Ubisoft. This game, according to Desilets, was aiming to be “the new Assassin’s Creed,” featuring a similar tone and scope that series.

  • Miyamoto Confirms Work Underway on New Nintendo Consoles

Miyamoto Confirms Work Underway on New Nintendo Consoles

Shigeru Miyamoto has openly stated that Nintendo is actively working on new ideas for its next wave of hardware systems.

Though it is common for a platform holder to begin work on next-generation hardware soon after the release of the current system, it is rare that a company executive will openly discuss those plans.

But Miyamoto told the Associated Press that Nintendo is in the formative stage of designing new hardware, and suggested that preliminary work is underway on more than one system. That does not necessarily mean a new console will be released next year, but it does suggest that potential product roadmaps are being considered.

“We’re focused on providing a robust line-up of Wii U software for next year,” Miyamoto said.

“It seems like we’ve managed to do that this year and people are very happy with what we’ve done on Wii U. For the time being, our focus is on the Wii U hardware, but Nintendo as a whole has groups working on ideas for new hardware systems. While we’re busy working on software for the Wii U, we have production lines that are working on ideas for what the next system might be.”

The comment follows a recent rumor that the electronics firm Sharp will continue its close business relationship with Nintendo, this time supplying a free-form LCD screen that, it is rumored, Nintendo hopes to use to make a doughnut-shaped display. Meanwhile, in October, it was revealed that Nintendo has begun hiring staff to help work on future platforms, including a hardware architect.

Miyamoto also suggested, but did not confirm, that the next major Mario game will be reserved for new hardware.

“Since we first created Mario, people have compared him to Mickey Mouse. I’ve always said Mickey Mouse evolved with each evolution in animation. You saw Mickey Mouse each step of the way,” he said.

“From early on, I wanted Mario to be that character in the digital world, so that with each digital evolution, he was there to usher in the next era. I think that maybe when we release the next hardware system, you can look forward to seeing Mario take on a new role or in a new game.”

For now, this bedside sleep analyser is the only new hardware Nintendo has revealed it is working on.

Nintendo is also developing new hardware in its new Quality of Life business, the first of which is a bedside sleep analyser. Though it is possible Miyamoto could be referring to such devices when discussing new hardware, it is unlikely, as he also talks about how Mario will evolve on these new platforms.

Elsewhere in his interview, Miyamoto was asked about the rumored partnership with Sony for a Mario movie. Such details were leaked due to a hack on Sony Pictures Entertainment, supposedly from a North Korean in response to the now-cancelled movie The Interview, which depicts an assassination attempt of the North Korea dictator Kim Jong-un.

Miyamoto played down the significance of the Mario movie leak, however, describing it as a common business proposal.

He said: “I heard something about that this morning. What’s interesting is that over the past 20 years, people come to us on a fairly regular basis about creating ‘Mario’ movies. There are times that those ideas end right when they bring them to us, and other times we’ll listen to presentations. It’s not very unusual, and it’s something we’ve been doing for a very long time. I don’t particularly have a vision that the next iteration of ‘Mario’ is going to be in film.”

Nintendo’s Wii U, now two years into its life, has been supported by several high-profile and critically acclaimed games, including Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, Super Mario 3D World, and Pikmin 3.

The Nintendo 3DS, now three years since its release, has sold more than 45 million units into retail.

Nintendo does tend to discuss new consoles far ahead of release. At E3 2004, chief executive Satoru Iwata revealed Nintendo’s plan to work on Project Revolution, which would eventually become the Wii, released some 30 months later.

  • Microsoft to Reveal Xbox VR Headset at E3 2015, Report Claims

Microsoft to Reveal Xbox VR Headset at E3 2015, Report Claims

    Microsoft’s rumored Fortazela concept

Microsoft will reveal its long-rumored Xbox virtual reality headset device during the company’s E3 2015 briefing next summer, according to a new Digitimes report that cites “upstream supply chain” sources. The summer tradeshow is scheduled for June 16-18, 2015.

The site’s sources went on to say that development on the Xbox VR headset, which will presumably work with the Xbox One, will be handled by the same team that runs Microsoft’s Surface tablet line. A name for the device was not mentioned.

Microsoft’s Xbox VR headset is separate from its Google Glass-like “Fortazela” project, which first leaked in June 2012. Digitimes adds that development on this project (pictured, top) is ongoing, though no further details about features or functionality are available.

Microsoft has been open in saying that virtual reality is something the company has been experimenting with for a long time now.

Competitor Sony announced its own virtual reality device, Project Morpheus, during GDC in March 2014, though the company hasn’t said when it plans to launch the PlayStation 4 device or what it will cost. Meanwhile, the Facebook-owned Oculus Rift headset is also deep into development for PC.

Microsoft’s mysterious VR project has been in development for years, and the company even gave a demonstration of the tech to Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Grand Theft Auto parent publisher Take-Two Interactive.

We have reached out to Microsoft for comment on this report, and will update this post with anything we hear back.
