Another Xavier Dolan Film 'Only The End Of The World' Filming Soon
We have another! Just a few weeks before the 2015 Cannes Film Festival starts, where Quebecois filmmaker Xavier Dolan will be sitting on the Jury, Seville Pictures has announced a few details about another new Dolan film. Dolan will be directing Only The End Of The World, or officially Just La Fin Du Monde, with production starting in May. He’s got quite the cast, too: Marion Cotillard, Léa Seydoux, Vincent Cassel, Nathalie Baye, and Gaspard Ulliel. Now that is an impressive set of actors, a step up from his past few films but hopefully it’ll turn out just as good (don’t forget Dolan’s Mommy was my #1 film of 2014). ›››

'Lord of the Rings' Cinematographer Andrew Lesnie Has Died at Age 59
Sad news to report. Academy Award winning cinematographer Andrew Lesnie passed away suddenly, and has died at the age of 59. Born in Sydney, Australia, Lesnie went on to work closely with Peter Jackson as his Director of Photography on the three Lord of the Rings movies. He also went on to work on King Kong and The Hobbit trilogy, as well as I Am Legend, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Last Airbender and Russell Crowe’s The Water Diviner most recently. He won the Oscar for Return of the King back in 2002. Lesnie was a beloved member of this industry, with many speaking out about him through social media (including even Ian McKellen as seen below). Details are not yet available about his death; he was only 59 years old. ›››

'The Guest' Director Adam Wingard to Helm 'Death Note' Adaptation
After bringing some flare to indie thrillers and horror with The Guest and You’re Next, director Adam Wingard has just been lined up to take on a studio project. THR reports the filmmaker has just signed on to direct an adaptation of the Japanese horror manga Death Note. Previously, directors like Shane Black and Gus Van Sant were linked to the project, but neither of them stuck with the adaptation. With Wingard signed, it sounds like he might finally be the one to make it happen along with producers Roy Lee and Dan Lin (The LEGO Movie), as well as Jason Hoffs (Edge of Tomorrow) and “Heroes” series star Masi Oka. ›››

'It Follows' Horror Lead Maika Monroe Joins 'Independence Day 2'
After being pursued by a terrifying entity in this year’s indie horror hit It Follows, actress Maika Monroe will have to deal with aliens this time. Director Roland Emmerich again took to Twitter today to announce that the actress has landed a role in Independence Day 2. Monroe is one among a few new additions to the sequel who were not part of the original 1996 sci-fi blockbuster. Other new cast members include Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games), Jessie Usher, Charlote Gainsbourg, Travis Tope and Joey King. However, at this time, we really don’t know what roles these new actors will be playing in the sequel. ›››

Academy Originals Dives into the Extensive VFX of 'Edge of Tomorrow'
Sadly, audiences didn’t head to theaters in greater numbers to see Edge of Tomorrow (or Live Die Repeat as it’s now known on home video). It’s a shame, because the Tom Cruise vehicle proved to be far more entertaining the even the trailers led on, and it’s a fantastic and fun sci-fi action adventure. And if you’re just now stumbling upon the greatness that is Edge of Tomorrow, perhaps you’d like to know more about the visual effects. Thankfully, Academy Originals just released a new installment that looks at how the final sequence in Paris was created, mostly with visual effects, and it’s an impressive look behind the scenes. ›››

Read This: Excellent Movie Comic 'Matinee Junkie' by Jordan Jeffries
Welcome to Another Year at the Movies with Jordan Jeffries. Just a few weeks ago I stopped by the 2015 MoCCA Arts Festival (hosted by the Society of Illustrators) in New York City, sort of like Artists’ Alley at Comic-Con minus the rest of Comic-Con and only the artists. There I stumbled across and discovered one amazing, unforgettable comic book dedicated to a love of movies, titled Matinee Junkie. It was written and illustrated by cinephile Jordan Jeffries from New Jersey. I bought a copy of year one and the sequel, Matinee Junkie 2 (for 2014), which recaps each a year of his life as connected to the films he saw – including a full-size scan of the ticket stub. This is a must read comic book for any/every last movie lover out there. ›››

Xbox One's D4 Coming to PC
Xbox One murder mystery game D4: Dark Dream’s Don’t Die is coming to PC. Director Hidetaka Suehiro, who is perhaps better known by his nickname, Swery, announced the news today in Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu and on Twitter.

“Yes. D4 will be release for PC. #ThanksObama,” he wrote.
Back in October 2014, Suehiro said a PC version of D4 was possible. The game is never coming to PlayStation 4, however, according to the developer.
D4 isn’t the first game announced as an Xbox One exclusive to later be released for PC. Dead Rising 3 and Ryse: Son of Rome both made the jump to computers, while Killer Instinct might as well.
D4 was released for Xbox One in September 2014, and GameSpot gave the title a 7.0. Reviewer Kevin VanOrd praised its ridiculous story and atmosphere, while lamenting its stereotypical characters and several slow stretches that bogged down the pace.

Don't Expect a Traditional Microsoft E3 Showing This Year
Microsoft is breaking from the mold of past E3 showings and will try something different this year at the marquee industry event to be held this June in Los Angeles. We already knew that Microsoft was planning to focus more on first-party games this year, but now Head of Xbox boss Phil Spencer has teased even more ways in which the company plans to shake things up when all eyes on on the Xbox company.

Spencer speaking at E3 2015 Responding to a fan’s question on Twitter about Microsoft’s plans for E3 this year, Spencer said Microsoft will have “some interesting changes this year for briefing and the week.”
“I like it when we test ourselves to do better each year.”
Spencer went on to say that Microsoft will talk about not only Xbox One games, but also titles for PC. “We’ll have some of both,” he explained.
This is hardly surprising, as Microsoft’s new Windows 10 operating system is due to launch this summer with a renewed focus on gaming. Windows 10 will feature a new and improved built-in Xbox app, cross-platform play support for games like Fable Legends, and even a game-streaming application. And if AMD is right, the new OS will launch at the end of July, not long after E3.
Microsoft has not yet announced when it will hold its E3 press conference. But the likely bet would the Monday morning of E3 week. That would mean sometime on June 15, after Bethesda’s the night earlier, and before Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, and Sony later in the day.
What are you hoping to see from Microsoft at E3 this summer? Let us know in the comments below!
