It’s an act of suicidal heroism that helps tip the entire Battle of Endor in the Alliance’s favour, but the pilot responsible for the Executor’s destruction—Arvel Crynyd, aka Green Leader—is basically an unknown. A random face attached to a giant explosion, whose actor wasn’t even credited in Return of the Jedi. This comic looks to change that.

I wouldn’t expect anything less from Quentin Tarantino, the owner of a classic repertory 35mm cinema in Los Angeles (and tons of old film reels and other lost film prints). Over the weekend at the Cine Gear Expo held in Hollywood, Tarantino took to the stage at the Paramount Theater on Paramount’s lot to show select 70mm footage from his new film The Hateful Eight. Tarantino, with cinematographer Robert Richardson, decided that this next western should be presented in the 2.78:1 aspect ratio. So they decided to shoot on 65mm film stock using classic Panavision lenses. In THR’s post about the event, they hint that “word on the street is that plans are underway to equip roughly 50 U.S. theaters to show the movie in 70mm”. Oh boy. ›››

“In your face, Neil Armstrong.” 20th Century Fox has unveiled the first full trailer for Ridley Scott’s The Martian, adapted from Andy Weir’s novel. Matt Damon stars as astronaut Mark Watney, the leader of one of the first manned missions to Mars, however he ends up stranded there. You’ll see the rest of the story in the trailer, as it sets up a fascinating and exciting story of survival against all odds. This kind of fits in nicely as a prequel to Interstellar, but it also seems to stand alone as an invigorating new space exploration entry. The movie seems to have an expanded focus on a number of characters, including the rest of the crew but also many back on Earth. It gets really good when Damon begins to figure out how to survive by himself. ›››

“Crew Fact: Huge fan of classic Kung Fu movies.” 20th Century Fox has debuted a fantastic promo video for The Martian adapted from Andy Weir’s novel, directed by Ridley Scott. The video is a viral promo for NASA featuring astronaut Mark Watney, played by Matt Damon, who takes us on a tour of the Hermes spacecraft soon embarking on the ARES 3 mission to Mars. In the video we get to meet crew members: Kate Mara as Beth Johanssen, Michael Peña as Rick Martinez, Sebastian Stan as Chris Beck, Aksel Hennie as Alex Vogel, and Jessica Chastain as Melissa Lewis. And finally, we get a few minutes with Matt Damon as Watney at the end. I can’t wait to see a full trailer, but this is a perfect introduction for now. View below. ›››

Microsoft has released a new Xbox One system update. Normally, that’s an exciting event, as new features or functionality are delivered to the console. But this one is somewhat different.

The new Xbox One update out now does not introduce new features, but instead offers mysterious behind-the-scenes tweaks to “prepare for the future.”
Check out some tweets below about the new Xbox One update from Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb and Xbox partner director Mike Ybarra.
The timing of the update is potentially interesting, as E3–the biggest news event of the year for games–is right around the corner. We’ve already heard about a new, 1TB Xbox One model, but could a new dashboard update also be in the works?
We don’t know, but all will be revealed at Microsoft’s E3 briefing, which is scheduled for Monday, June 15, starting at 9:30 AM PDT / 12:30 PM EDT.
For those asking, we released a small update today. No features. Just behind the scenes stuff. #xbox
