TIFF 2016: 'Catfight' – The Gloves Come Off in No Holds Barred Satire

    Catfight Review

It has often been said, “With friends like these, who needs enemies?” It is true that our friends can be are harshest critics; and sometimes you have to wonder why they were your friends in the first place. Catfight is what would happen if you confronted that friend and decided to smack them like a WWE Diva instead of talking it out like grown adults. Catfight, starring Anne Heche and Sandra Oh, written and directed by Onur Tukel – which just premiered at the Toronto Film Festival – is a strange story about a karmic cycle that not only escalates to violent physical altercations, but shows the repercussions of the aftermath. ›››

    The Alchemist Cookbook Trailer

“Just walking around in my mansion, in the woods, in my robe…” Oscilloscope Labs has released the full trailer for indie film The Alchemist Cookbook, from director Joel Potrykus who last made the cult hit Buzzard. This film is about a young outcast named Sean, played by Ty Hickson, who is holed up in a trailer in the woods with “The Alchemist Cookbook” and his cat trying to devise twisted schemes for vanquishing his enemies. After going too far with a recipe, he “awakens something far more sinister and dangerous”. There’s some funky footage in this trailer, but the best part is the quote from Variety about “if you only see two American indie features co-starring Satan this year…” You have to appreciate a unique trailer like this. ›››

Owen Wilson & Ed Helms are Brothers in Trailer for Comedy 'Bastards'

    Bastards Trailer

“Who your father is, or isn’t, is totally irrelevant.” Warner Bros has debuted the first trailer for the comedy Bastards, starring Owen Wilson and Ed Helms as fraternal twin brothers who go on a search for their father when their mother reveals she doesn’t know who he really is. This is the feature directorial debut of a cinematographer who has worked on tons of comedies like The Hangover and The Dictator. Also starring Katie Aselton, J.K. Simmons, Terry Bradshaw, Glenn Close, Ving Rhames, Ryan Cartwright, Katt Williams, Retta and Bill Irwin. This looks like your standard goofy comedy with lots of dirty jokes. ›››

    Ordinary World Trailer

“Dad – sometimes you’re just not there.” An official trailer has arrived for an indie comedy titled Ordinary World, from the director of John Krasinski’s The Giant Mechanical Man from 2012. Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong stars in the film as a former punk rocker who is having trouble getting used to the “real world” after 10 years of leaving behind that world. When his wife & daughter forget his 40th birthday, his brother throws him a big party in New York where he encounters his old bandmates. The cast includes Selma Blair, Judy Greer, Madisyn Shipman, Dallas Roberts, Chris Messina and Fred Armisen. This looks like it might be fun, and it features original songs written and performed by Billie Joe Armstrong. ›››

Official US Trailer for André Téchiné's Coming-of-Age Film 'Being 17'

    Being 17 Trailer

“You lack confidence. In yourself, in others, in life.” Strand Releasing has debuted an official US trailer for André Téchiné’s Being 17, a drama that first premiered at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year. The film is about a boy named Thomas, played by newcomer Corentin Fila, who lives up in the mountains in a small town in France. He is always getting into fights with another kid at his school, named Damien played by Kacey Mottet Klein, but it turns out there’s actually a sexual tension between them that is causing all the problems. The cast includes Sandrine Kiberlain as the mother of Damien, who invites Thomas to stay at their home. I saw this film in Berlin and was very impressed, even though it’s going to be a hard sell for most, it’s worth your time to discover. André Téchiné is an experienced director who knows what he’s doing. ›››

  • Star Wars Rogue's Composer Replaced by Oscar-Winner Who Worked on Call of Duty

Star Wars Rogue's Composer Replaced by Oscar-Winner Who Worked on Call of Duty

With only three months to go before Star Wars: Rogue One comes to theaters, Lucasfilm has reportedly replaced the movie’s Oscar-winning composer. According to The Hollywood Reporter and EW, Michael Giacchino is stepping in to replace Alexandre Desplat, who won an Oscar for The Grand Budapest Hotel.

According to the reports, the change is the result of the movie’s much-discussed reshoots. Lucasfilm did five weeks of additional filming and according to the report, this “altered the timetable to the point where Desplat had to bow out.”

    3130287-rogue1.jpg

Giacchino, the new composer, also won an Oscar, taking home the honor for Pixar’s beloved Up. He also worked on Ratatouille, The Incredibles, Zootopia, and Doctor Strange, all of which were made by Disney studios. He also did the music for Jurassic World and the new Star Trek films.

As EW points out, Giacchino played a stormtrooper in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, so he’s no stranger to the franchise. He might be better known in Hollywood, but he also wrote the music for the first Call of Duty game.

Rogue One comes out on December 16. Earlier this week, some new posters were revealed for it, showing off the Death Star.

The film is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Donnie Yen, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, and Mads Mikkelsen

  • Man of Steel 2 Is Being Developed by DC, Superman Actor's Manager Confirms

Man of Steel 2 Is Being Developed by DC, Superman Actor's Manager Confirms

Last month it was rumoured that Warner were looking to make a sequel to its 2013’s Superman hit Man of Steel. The manager of star Henry Cavill has now confirmed the news, revealing that the DC film is in active development at the studio.

    3130284-cavill2.jpg

In a new interview with Newsweek, Cavill’s manager, Dany Garcia, stated that Man of Steel 2 was one of the projects that the actor was currently working on at the studio. “Henry has a big appetite,” she said. “We’ve been in a five-month period of time where he’s re-strategizing, acquiring property [for his production company], he’s filming [Justice League] now, he’s in development for the Superman standalone.

“He’s beginning to expand that world. It’s beautifully teed up. In a year from now, or two years from now, he’s going to be a force globally.”

Cavill played Superman for the first time in Man of Steel and reprised the role in this year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He’ll next be seen in Justice League–in August, the actor teased a potential new-look for the character.

Man of Steel made $668 million at the global box office and represented the first entry in the DC Cinematic Universe. In August, a source for The Wrap told the site that a new Superman movie is a “top priority” for Warner.

Earlier this year, Man of Steel actor Russell Crowe said the studio originally planned to make more standalone Superman movies but later elected to pursue a DC film that featured both Superman and Batman.

  • You Must Kill a Pharmacist for Hitman's Newest Mission

You Must Kill a Pharmacist for Hitman's Newest Mission

The next Elusive Target for Hitman has been announced. This mission, which is Hitman’s 10th Elusive Target since launch, sees players tracking down a mysterious pharmacist.

The mission goes live on the in-game Featured Hub today, September 16, starting at 5 AM PT / 8 AM ET. You will need to own the first episode to find the target, as she’s located in Paris.

    3130279-elusive.jpg

As with previous Elusive Targets, the pharmacist will only be in the location for a set period of time–168 hours (7 days) in this case. And there are no second chances. If you miss out, you may never have another chance to take down the target and earn rewards.

If you complete five Elusive Targets, you’ll get the Hitman Absolution Signature Suit (see it below), while completing all 10 will unlock the Blood Money Signature Suit.

    3130278-bloodmoney.jpg

Lead online designer Torben Ellert spoke to GameSpot earlier this year about how developer IO Interactive wanted to make Elusive Targets get more difficult.

“We probably want the first couple at least to be quite approachable experiences, because it’s really important that we make it clear that these are not impossible missions,” he said. “Yes, they’re tense, because if you screw up, you’re finished. But they’re totally doable. I think we need to keep that for the next couple, but as we go down the line, we will improve on their perceptiveness, where it makes narrative sense.”
