The Voice in the ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Trailer Is…

Villain Star Wars Force Awakens header

There’s a lot to talk about in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer, but there’s only so much talking. Two short little phrases: “There has been an awakening. Have you felt it?” Followed by “The dark side…and the light.” With all the visuals that we can break down, there’ are only these two brief snippets of actual dialogue to consider. The first and most important question may be, who is speaking?

The identity of the narrator was a big topic of discussion Friday after the trailer hit. Speculation about the person’s identity ran from Max Von Sydow to Adam Driver, Andy Serkis and even Benedict Cumberbatch. The last one isn’t even in the movie, but it sounds a bit like him. Because he was at the center of J.J. Abrams’ last big mystery, it was a fun option to consider.

There will be no more considering. The identity of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer voice has been revealed.

The Force Awakens trailer voice is, in fact, Andy Serkis, seen below in his Avengers: Age of Ultron look.

Avengers: Age of Ultron: Andy Serkis

Steve from Collider was the first to definitely say the voice was Serkis. Still many remained skeptical. Harry Knowles from Ain’t It Cool News even posted that he confirmed it was “not” Serkis, but that sentiment was quickly changed.

Finally, Hitfix got on the case and bolstered Collider’s earlier point:

For the record, that is Andy Serkis you hear in the trailer. I was able to verify this, although I was not able to uncover any further information about the role he plays. Here’s what I do know, though. He’s playing a pivotal role in the film, although he will not have a lot of screen time.

That’s a very interesting piece of information. Does it make him an Emperor-like character? Possibly someone who’ll play a larger role later in the series? You have to think, if Serkis’ character can feel the event of the title – The Force Awakening – he’s gotta be crucial. That’s simply because not everyone can feel the Force. “The Phantom Menace” didn’t play a huge role in that movie, but he sure did later on.

Maybe you’re still skeptical. Our own Dave Chen took a voice over performance from Cumberbatch and edited it back to back with this one, making it pretty obvious it’s not that actor.

So that’s that. Andy Serkis is the voice in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer. Now, if only we knew who was holding that red lightsaber.

See the ‘Jurassic World’ T-Rex, Director Colin Trevorrow Comments on Trailer

    Jurassic World T-rex

The Jurassic World trailer showed us quite a bit, but one thing we didn’t see was one of the series’ signature dinosaurs: the Tyrannosaurus Rex. As a follow-up to that trailer release, however, the film’s official website has launched, and with it comes the first look at the film’s T-rex. Granted, it looks like, well, a T-rex. And what we see is merely a pair of CG renders of the beast. But that’s better than nothing. At the same time, director Colin Trevorrow has provided some commentary on the trailer, and his explanation of a few different points will definitely be of interest to fans who have questions about the new film. See the Jurassic World T-rex images below, along with some talk from the director.

First, here’s the Jurassic World T-rex, via the official site.

    jw-t-rex-1
    jw-t-rex-2

And then, via Empire, we have some comments from Colin Trevorrow about the trailer and the film. There’s a lot more at Empire; we’ve just picked up a couple of specific quotes from the director.

    Gyrosphere Jurassic World

    The Gyrosphere

Where did the gyrosphere come from? ”Steven [Spielberg] loves theme park rides,” Trevorrow explains. “He wanted to create a way for people to get up close and personal with the animals, to make it a self-driving, free-roaming experience. It loads on a track, but once you’re out there, you actually get to navigate around the valley. … I see no way any of that could go wrong.”

That last line is, as anyone who has seen the trailer knows, meant to be serious sarcasm.

Jurassic World water dinosaur possibly a Spinosaurus

    The Aquatic Feeding

Most people who’ve seen the trailer see the scene above as a nod to Jaws. But that wasn’t the point, or that wasn’t entirely the point, at least.

It wasn’t intended that way, however obvious it seems. The idea came out in one of our first meetings – I didn’t know if Steven and Frank [Marshall, producer on all the Jurassic Park movies] had considered an underwater reptile, so I pitched the mosasaurus and went off on the idea. I thought it would be cool if we had this massive animal and the park used one of our most fearsome modern predators as food. There could be a whole other facility where they used shark DNA to mass-produce them to feed the bigger beast. Steven gave me this look like, ‘You know I get it, right?’ And I sunk a little lower in my chair. And then he said, ‘Let’s do it’.

It’s a bonkers idea, but I’m comfortable going to Crazytown, because I used to live there when I was a kid. Children have a creative fearlessness that I envy. If you’ve seen my first movie [sci-fi dramedy, Safety Not Guaranteed], you can see that I don’t mind embarrassing myself sometimes. As a result, my working relationship with Steven can feel like that Saturday Night Live sketch, Laser Cats. I walk in with so much confidence, then I look in the mirror and I’m wearing a tinfoil helmet. Half the time I feel like an amateur, and half the time he says, ‘No, wear the helmet. The helmet works.’

    Bryce Dallas Howard Jurassic World

    The Genetically-Modified Dinosaur

Perhaps the element of the trailer that has generated the most commentary is the bit that points out that a genetically-modified dinosaur will be a big part of the film. Reactions have ranged from “didn’t they see the first movie?” to “why not use all these other cool real-world dinosaurs?” Indeed, Trevorrow gets it.

There is no shortage of awesome dinosaurs. We could have populated this entire story with new species that haven’t been in any of these movies. But this new creation is what gave me a reason to tell another Jurassic Park story. We have the most awe-inspiring creatures to ever walk the earth right in front of us, but for some reason that’s not enough. We’re not entertained. We’re always hungry for the next thing, and those who profit from it are always looking to feed that hunger. The focus groups want something bigger than a T-Rex. And that’s what they get. … We may see little pieces of her as we get closer – in fact, we already have – but I’m confident that we can keep much of that animal under wraps. She’s not the only danger. Far from it.

    Jurassic World Chris Pratt

    Riding With Raptors

The most eye-popping shot of the trailer sees Chris Pratt’s character charging through the jungle on a motorcycle, flanked by velociraptors. They seem to be working together — or, at least, the raptors aren’t attacking Pratt. So what’s up there?

I like that people aren’t sure what the hell they’re looking at. I was concerned about putting this image in an early trailer, but I love that people are as excited about it as they are. It just reinforces that we all want to see something fresh. Those familiar homage shots in our trailer kind of mask how different this movie is from the others, and I’m relieved that people are embracing the new ideas.

Owen’s relationship with the raptors is complicated. They aren’t friends. These animals are nasty and dangerous and they’ll bite your head off if you make the wrong move. But there are men and women out there today who have forged tenuous connections with dangerous predators. That’s interesting territory to me.

  • Nova Probably Won’t Appear In ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2′

Nova Probably Won’t Appear In ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2′

    nova in guardians 2

One character that has been the subject of speculation for Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is Nova, the Earth-born hero who acts (in various incarnations) as a major warrior against the Kree and Skulls, fighting for Xandar and the planet’s Nova Corps in addition to getting into his own adventures.

Other members of the Corps showed up in Guardians of the Galaxy. We’ve seen concept art that reportedly represents designs for the character cooked up for the first Guardians, and some have guessed that Nova would be one of the characters set to debut in the sequel. Don’t bet on that, according to writer/director James Gunn, who says he wants to keep the emphasis on one single man from Earth.

Gunn, in a reply to his Facebook post about connected universes, was asked about including Nova in Guardians 2. He responded,

I don’t want Nova right now because I think Quill being the only earthling is important. That serves the entire movie going audience and not just the handful of Nova fans… I have nothing against Nova in future movies, but it doesn’t serve the movie right this moment.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 doesn’t open until May 2017, and so it is far too early to say there’s no way Nova will show up. But Gunn has pretty firm control over what’s going on in the film, and so he’s the best indicator at the moment of what we can expect to see.

Gunn previously said of the sequel,

I think the main thing with moving on is we can’t just repeat ourselves. We can’t just say “Okay, well let’s start with something sad and shift into something really happy with some music and let’s have the Awesome Mix work in exactly the same way only with songs from the 80s instead of the 70s.” All of those things, that doesn’t interest me. For me the shift is really about getting to know the characters on a deeper level, knowing them more intimately and uncovering facets of those characters that make them more real to us. At the center of what works about Guardians is that people like the characters. … I mean more deeply into the characters themselves and who they are, how they work and how they think. What their flaws are, what their strengths are. They’re a much more flawed group than The Avengers. They have major major issues.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Photos – Let’s Over-Analyze the First Trailer

Star Wars The Force Awakens imax

This morning, Disney and Lucasfilm released the first trailer for JJ Abrams‘s Star Wars: The Force AwakensYou can watch that awesome trailer here, in case you haven’t seen it already. (Or if, like me, you want to watch it over and over again.) And for those of you who really want to take in all of the visuals revealed in the first Star Wars Episode 7 teaser trailer, we have compiled a batch of high resolution images from the film to let you take in all the awesomeness one image at a time. Hit the jump to see the Star Wars The Force Awakens photos now.

Update: We have added a Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer commentary video after the jump.

Condensed Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer Commentary:

This post contains a ton of information, but we have condensed the best of it all into a trailer commentary for Star Wars: The Force Awakens recorded by David Chen. Watch that below, but also check out the rest of this post for more geeky details like does “Daisy Ridley’s character have a lightsaber on her speeder bike?”

Note: The trailer was released in both 2D and 3D.

“There has been an awakening. Have you felt it?” asks a voice, which we think is probably Andy Serkis. We don’t yet know yet what role Andy Serkis plays in The Force Awakens. Some other fans are theorizing that its Benedict Cumberbatch, who has been consistently rumored as having a part in the new film.

Star Wars The Force Awakens sand planet

We see a sandy desert planet — it could be Tatooine, or it could just be another planet in the galaxy that looks the same.

John Boyega Star Wars: The Force Awakens

And then a stormtrooper pops up into screen, he is sweating with his mask off but still in full uniform. Don’t let that Imperial Stormtrooper armor fool you. This is one of The Force Awakens lead characters, played by John Boyega. As far as we know he is a good guy. This shot also tells us that the Galactic Empire did not fall after the epic Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi – three decades later they are still around.

Star Wars The Force Awakens sand planet

Boyega’s character looks frantically around. What is he looking for? He seems to be in duress. We believe he crashed on this planet.

We hear an Imperial Probe Droid transmission sound at 00:23-:25. Is Boyega receiving a transmission or is their an Imperial Probe Droid nearby?

We then start hearing trumpet music, very reminiscent of the Sarlacc Pit score. This is new John Williams Star Wars score.

Yes, that’s new John Williams score in #TheForceAwakens teaser.

Notice the new back of the Stormtrooper armor, its smoother and more modern looking — instead of a modular back plate it appears there is a magnetic attachment.

Star Wars The Force Awakens ball droid

Star Wars The Force Awakens ball droid

We then see a new droid, rolling along on what appears to be the same desert planet. We will call him Ball Droid for now. He is incredibly cute and seems to be emitting R2-like beeps and bloops, but he’s all his own. Reportedly, this droid belongs to (or was created by) Daisy Ridley’s character. We’ve heard that she’s a scavenger of sorts.

In the background we see what appears to be abandoned engines. Could they be podracer engines? They certainly look like it. The green one on the left looks kind of like Gasgano’s and the rusted one the right sort of looks like Ratts Tyerell. Neither is exact though, as Episode I was decades ago. If they are podracers, this could be more evidence that we are on Tatooine. The sport is also big on Malastare, however, which has deserts and lakes. We know that Episode 7 shot on locations with both sand and water.

Star Wars The Force Awakens stormtrooper

The light flashes as we are now inside a ship filled with Stormtroopers. This is our first official look at the new streamlined modern-looking Stormtrooper helmet. Also, notice they’re all different heights. Each one of these troopers is an individual. The third one from the right is noticeably shorter than the others — is that a visual nod to a specific idea from the original Star Wars?

Star Wars The Force Awakens stormtrooper blaster

One of the stormtroopers readies his blaster. It seems to be a more advanced form of the classic ‘trooper weapon.

    stormtrooper blaster comparison

Here is a comparison between the Stormtrooper E-11 blaster from the original trilogy and the one seen in the Force Awakens trailer.

Star Wars The Force Awakens stormtroopers

The door to the transport ship opens as a squad of Stormtroopers prepares to face the other side.

It almost looks like the dropship is over or looking out on water, but it may be just a trick of the light and some exhaust from the ship.

    drop-ship-water

Star Wars The Force Awakens stormtroopers

What’s on the other side? We don’t know. Its very dark although we do see some lights.

    swtfa-drop-ship-detail

What are these details in the background, beyond the edge of the ship?

@slashfilm :36 looks like moisture evaporators w/lights on them, seen through the opening door. Door seems similar to imperial shuttle too.

Daisy Ridley Speeder Star Wars Force Awakens header

Much like Thanksgiving, the Star Wars teaser trailer has a long and hearty history. Even before fans knew what “Star Wars” was, Lucasfilm was making trailers to tantalize moviegoers with just enough information and visuals to get them excited. The process continued after Star Wars became massive, reached new heights with the prequels, and continues in 2014 as fans everywhere freak out over seven brief glimpses into the seventh Star Wars film, The Force Awakens.

If you’ve already watched the trailer a hundred times but still want more, why not check out the teaser trailer for all seven Star Wars films?

These Star Wars teaser trailers mostly come from the fantastic Star Wars YouTube page. Others are from Movies.com.

    Star Wars Teaser Trailer

The Empire Strikes Back Teaser Trailer

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace Teaser Trailer

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones Teaser Trailer

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith Teaser Trailer

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Teaser Trailer

The Force Awakens definitely shows the least of all of these trailers, but it’s also the furthest out from release. In the case of the prequels, the trailers were all about six months away from release. That gave post-production a lot more time to finish shots for a teaser trailer, like Attack of the Clones for example. It’s shorter than Force Awakens, but has so much more in it.

If J.J. Abrams had cut a shorter trailer with as much footage as the Attack of the Clones trailer, the Internet might have broken with all the speculation. I think – about 13 months out – this teaser trailer does exactly what it should. It tells us there’s a new Star Wars coming out, it has cool stuff in it and you’ll want to know more.

Which is your favorite Star Wars teaser trailer of all time?

  • 25 Movies to Watch During Thanksgiving Weekend 2014

25 Movies to Watch During Thanksgiving Weekend 2014

    The Babadook (1)

One of the many reasons we’re thankful for Thanksgiving is that it cuts the work week short, giving us twice as much weekend time to spend at the movies. And there’s no shortage of titles right now to spend that time on. The only question is where to start.

To help you answer that, we’ve put together a helpful guide that (we hope) covers every base. Hit the jump for our list of 25 movies to watch this Thanksgiving.

    Index

Our selection of 25 movies to watch this Thanksgiving is broken up into five sections: Family, Oscar, Indie, Miscellaneous, and VOD. Not all of the films are new this weekend, and (especially with older or more obscure titles) we can’t guarantee that all of them are playing at a theater near you. But whether you’re looking to spend the entire weekend in a theater alone, or only have time for one quick jaunt with the entire family, we should have something for you.

    Hunger Games Mockingjay - Katniss

    Family Picks

The great thing about Thanksgiving is that it brings everyone together, from your hippie aunt to your hipster cousin to your drooling baby nephew. The bad thing about bringing everyone together is that it’s a challenge to get all of them to agree on anything. But your trip to the cinema isn’t doomed — try one of these titles with broad, multi-quadrant appeal.

If you’re watching with everyone: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1

Odds are good you’ve already seen The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, but consider watching it again anyway. It’s the big crowd-pleaser: ostensibly a teen movie, but more than smart enough for the adults in your party. There’s thrilling action, heart-pounding drama, intelligent politics and even a healthy dose of humor. And thanks to some truly excellent world-building by director Francis Lawrence and author Suzanne Collins, it’s got great rewatch value.

If you’re watching with kids: Big Hero 6

Big Hero 6 is your perfect Thanksgiving movie. The little ones will be charmed by the bright colors and cute characters, the geeky ones will appreciate the Marvel Comics roots, the sentimental ones will swoon for the sweet family storyline, and everyone will fall instantly and madly in love with Baymax. And unlike last year’s big late-fall hit, Frozen, it’s not a musical, so you won’t be left with Idina Menzel’s voice running on a loop in your head.

If you’re watching with kids who’ve already seen Big Hero 6: Penguins of Madagascar

Penguins of Madagascar is more specifically targeted at children than Big Hero 6, with a sillier storyline and a more hectic pace. But it’s not so sickeningly kiddie as to repel adults. It’s one of the funnier entries in the Madagascar series, with gags ranging from supremely silly to the surprisingly sophisticated (a Werner Herzog cameo falls in the latter category). Plus, don’t you want to see if Benedict Cumberbatch has finally figured out how to say “penguins”?

If you’re watching with slightly older kids: The Tale of the Princess Kaguya

The Tale of the Princess Kaguya is not the best option for young children with limited attention spans. On the other hand, older or more introspective kids and their parents will find much to admire in this delicate fairy tale from Studio Ghibli. The hand-drawn images and bittersweet tone stand in stark contrast to the bright colors and relentless cheeriness of mainstream American animation.

If you’re watching with grownups: Interstellar

With a 169-minute running time, complicated scientific ideas, and heavy abstract themes, Interstellar is definitely not one for the kids. But as a surprisingly tender meditation on familial love, it’s a solid choice for your grown-up relatives. If all this family togetherness is starting to wear you down, the heart-rending scenes between Matthew McConaughey and Mackenzie Foy (who plays his daughter) will serve as a helpful reminder to appreciate whatever time you have with your loved ones.

  • Why The ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Trailer Is So Special

Why The ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Trailer Is So Special

Star Wars Force Awakens Fan Logo

In case you didn’t know, Friday we get our first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. And there’s already been a lot of talk about it. Lots of speculation, lots of discussion, lots of everything. Most of it has been positive and exciting. Some has been more negative and questioning. Why do we care so much about this trailer? Why is this trailer, out of every trailer, creating such a fuss? Who cares?

Well, there is a very good reason for the excitement. Friday’s release of the first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a huge deal and I’m going to explain why. Basically, it’s a unique anomaly in modern movie culture. Below, read why The Force Awakens trailer is so special.

J.J Abrams Star Wars 7 trailer note

    Why Is This Different?

On the surface, the trailer’s importance is pretty obvious. This trailer is the first trailer for a very highly anticipated movie. However we’ve experienced that a ton of times before. Whether it’s in Hall H at Comic-Con or online, anticipated trailers are a dime a dozen. Another obvious point is it’s the first trailer for the first Star Wars movie in almost a decade. Again, we’ve experienced that before too. The Phantom Menace in 1998 being the prime example.

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

    What Sets This Apart?

No, what sets this trailer apart is our level of ignorance. It’s totally and utterly unprecedented. Even with The Phantom Menace, arguably the most anticipated film of all time, when the trailer came out, we already knew stuff about the film. In fact, we knew a lot.

We knew who lots of the new actors were playing. Ewan McGregor was the young Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jake Lloyd was kid Anakin Skywalker, etc. We knew a bit about the new characters too. Qui-Gon Jinn was a Jedi, Darth Maul was a bad guy, etc. We even knew what was going to happen. Eventually, Anakin Skywalker was going to become a Jedi, fight in the Clone Wars, get married, have kids and become Darth Vader. That’s a lot of story that – going into the first movie – we already knew.

Star Wars Episode VII Contest JJ Abrams

We’ve Seen Very Little. We Know Very Little.

Now, tell me what happens after Return of the Jedi? We don’t know. Books have told stories, but that’s all gone. Disintegrated from the canon. Who are the new actors playing? We don’t know. We have an idea of who is good, who is bad, who is important and who isn’t but most of it is speculation. What does the film look like? We don’t know. Sure lots and lots of concept art has leaked, and several set photos have been taken, but we don’t know what the film looks like. We don’t know what the film looks like through J.J. Abrams’ camera.

Okay, we saw a few UNICEF videos. We know there’s a weird puppet on a desert. We know there’s an X-Wing Fighter that looks a little different and we know the Millennium Falcon is in the movie. We also know all the returning actors are playing their iconic roles. So Mark Hamill is Luke Skywalker, Harrison Ford is Han Solo and Carrie Fisher is Princess Leia, etc. But what are those characters doing? Is Han still with Chewie? Is Luke training Jedi? Is Leia a Jedi? Are Han and Leia still together? Do they have kids? Spoiler hounds like myself maybe know a little bit about this, but really, we don’t know for sure.

If you think about it, we have no idea about anything. At all. Everything is a mystery.

To put that in perspective, think of any other movie you’ve been looking forward to. Avengers 2, Jurassic World, Inherent Vice, whatever. When you saw the trailer, you had some general idea of what you were going to see. You knew the characters, the bad guy, the premise, the book’s story. In the case of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we have absolutely no idea what to expect.

Star Wars episode 7 8 and 9 fan poster

    This Will Not Happen Again.

And it’s not going to happen again. When we see the spin-offs, Episode VIII, we’ll have an idea of what’s going on. The story, some characters, a start point. But with The Force Awakens, nope. We know nothing. That changes soon.

So on Friday, whether you’re in the theater or sitting in front of your computer, each one of us is going to get our first glimpse of what this new theatrical version of Star Wars looks like. All at the same time. Our heroes, our villains, worlds both familiar and new. Everything is a surprise.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Fan Trailers

    Anything IS Possible

What we love about Star Wars is that anything is possible. With the prequels, that was only half true. Anything was possible – as long as it told the story we already knew. Now, with The Force Awakens, literally anything is possible and we start to learn about it Friday.

So have a great holiday and Friday, come back to Slashfilm. We’ll have our immediate reaction to seeing the trailer in the theater. We’ll have the trailer itself. We’ll have analysis, we’ll have it all. We love Star Wars just as much as you do and we know how important this is. It’s a big deal.

I’ve also tried to include a wide range of prices, from small stocking stuffers to blu-ray box sets to huge expensive collectibles for most of us to drool over. Everything included in the guide is something I either recommend, have been recommended by trusted friends, colleagues and readers, or something that just looks damn cool.

Monday we published the first installment which focused on booksTuesday we featured the best graphic novelsWednesday we featured the best toys, collectibles and games, and earlier today we posted the best blu-ray sets. If you missed either installment you can still access them by clicking the links in the the previous sentence. We’ll be posting the final installment on Black Friday. Today we bring you a look at some of the coolest Blu-ray sets and art screenprints released this year that your pop culture-loving loved ones and friends might enjoy as a gift this Holiday season.

Note: All prices mentioned are rounded to the nearest dollar and were accurate on the week this feature was published.

    Art / Screenprints

Finding art for this Holiday Gift Guide was tough because screenprints are usually released in a limited amount, from hundreds to only dozens of copies, and usually sell out close to their launch. But I was able to find quite a lot of great prints still available, some of which aren’t limited.

PULP FICTION print from Laurent Durieux

Pulp Fiction by Laurent Durieux from Mondo: The great thing about this print is, unlike most other Mondo releases, everyone will have a chance to buy one. Mondo is releasing the Durieux Pulp print as a timed release meaning, anyone who orders between Black Friday & Cyber Monday can get it. The number of prints will be determined after the same. So if you’ve always wanted a Mondo poster or just love this awesome Durieux take on Tarantino’s classic, here is your chance.

Sky Map Of 135 Classic Horror Films

Star Map Of 135 Classic Horror Films $40

The Horror Star Chart is based on the night sky over Berlin Zoological Gardens on 4th March, 1922 during the premier of  F.W. Murnau’s silent vampire film ‘Nosferatu’, which is recognised as a masterpiece of cinema, inspiring film makers and directors for generations to come (including Hitchcock).   The star chart features the films (and a few of our favourite TV shows) that are culturally significant to the genre and plays homage to the actors, directors, producers, graphic artists, authors and writers whose work has been pivotal to the enduring popularity of Horror.    The 135 titles featured include those chosen for preservation in the US National Film Registry due to their cultural, historical, or aesthetic significance and a few personal favourites including: early silent films (The Cabinet of Dr Caligari, Nosferatu and The Phantom Of The Opera), Universal Monsters from the 30′s featuring Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff (Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy), Hammer classics (Dracula and Captain Kronos – Vampire Hunter), forerunners of the slasher sub genre in the 60′s (Peeping Tom and Psycho), supernatural thrillers of the 70′s (The Exorcist, The Omen, Carrie), video ‘nasties’ vilified by the media in the 80’s (Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Evil Dead) through to the recent Zombie revival (28 Days Later).   An A-Z key lists the films (and their actors) included on the chart along with the year of release.
